Men hanging around children's playparks

There seems to have been a rash of these on my local FB. Posts full of outrage (?) Fear (?) about men, usually with dark skin, loitering near play parks.

My first reaction is FGS live and let live you nasty racists, but there have been so many I'm now wondering if either they're made up, or there is something untoward. Why are men hanging around in groups by a playpark?

Or was my first guess right?

No woman should be getting in a car with a strange man, white or otherwise. Or accepting vodka.

My grandad was once accused of being a paedophile by a woman while at a play park.

She was very angry, shouting lots and had a group behind her. She explained she'd seen him there 'all the time and it's not like you've got any kids with you.' He was very upset by it and often still remembers it nearly 20 years on as an early dementia sufferer.

She'd not noticed that he was actually there with my brother though. He was there lots - he did every school pick up, was our primary caregiver and lived opposite the play park. He was there every bloody day, he just didn't fit this woman's image of someone likely to be with a child for some reason, so she didn't notice the kid.

I'd want to be very sure that this wasn't just a group of friends chilling in the park, beside a playground because one of them had a child in it, before I started thinking they were there for nefarious reasons...

Separately, we have a very inside sort of culture in the UK. Lots of other countries do their socialising outside. Any chance it's just conveniently near a toilet, entrance to park, obvious meeting spot for those without phones/credit etc. and just people socialising in a place that makes sense for whatever reason? Loads of adults hang out by the play park in the park near my house - because it's also by the café. Unless they're showing interest in the play park, they're probably in that position for a different reason.

Most migrants are perfectly reasonable people (some I'm sure are cunts, but a tiny minority of people I meet). A bit like most other people in the country really.

My Dad used to pick up my DC from school sometimes. He would always time it to be only just there on time for fear of being accused of hanging around outside a school 😪

Wasnt there a case recently where Reform nutters picked on a black man who was minding his white passing child at the park? That's where all this is going.

Dollymylove · Yesterday 19:30

Is it men in parks, or men loitering in children's play areas, without accompanying children?
Because if it lone men in children's play grounds them questions should be asked

Hopomythumb · Yesterday 19:32

The children’s park near Great Ormond Street hospital has a turnstile entry and states that lone men should not enter - I think it’s called Coram Fields.

Never seen anything on my local Facebook but I have witnessed what you’re describing. Our local park has two primary schools and secondary school very close by and of an afternoon it gets really busy.
My daughter and I came in one afternoon with my friend and her daughter and we noticed four men (late teens to mid 20s) inside the kids playground, we noticed them because they were very loud and pushing and shoving each around. My friend and I thought they were with kids although we never saw any approach them, but our eyes weren’t glued to them the whole time. Few minutes later these men climbed over the railings and walked off without a second glance. The exit they were headed for was about a three minute walk. As they walked off I remember looking around to see if they’d left a kid behind but everything seemed fine.

Originally one of the men had been sat on a bench inside the playground and I did wonder if he just wanted to sit down but there are loads of (more comfortable) benches outside the kid’s playground so I have no idea why they chose to come into the playground area.

I see a lot of AI posts in the bigger town community groups. The photos are altered, it’s there to spread hate and division. It’s the same as when people with 1 friend and an account made yesterday were rage baiting about flags.

It's lone men near children's playgrounds. E.g using the benches out outside or walking laps of a park that pass it.

Or groups of men

Frankly it does happen because a lot of these men are un or under-employed and meet in groups, where there are seats. Pedestrianised town centres also attract loitering groups.

For those saying it’s not true, I suggest you have not frequented playgrounds/parks in affected areas. It is intimidating, even if their presence is innocent.

The one I saw was a lone young black man, sat on a bench obviously having a break on a bike ride
but because he’s not white, obviously he can’t be British Confused
its pathetic. I was sexually assaulted by a white man during a sports massage

But that doesn’t mean you get to video them and accuse them of being child abusers
unless you’re also moving on groups of teenagers, groups of elderly people, groups of whoever, it’s only happening to people who aren’t white

I can see this getting to a stage if it hasn’t already where we are back into openly racist in the streets and people are scared to go out

I tell my daughters to avoid groups of Pakistani-looking men, never to eg drink vodka if it’s offered and not to go with them to their flats or get in their cars.
I caveat it by saying I hate to say it because it sounds racist but with rape gangs operating in 149 areas they can’t be too careful. I’d rather I sound racist than they get hurt. They should have their guard up against all young men of course but need to be especially careful here.

Edited

I would hope you tell her not to accept alcohol or lifts from any group of men, regardless of natuonality!

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 19:50

Where are the benches? In parks local to me the only benches are near where the play equipment is so if you want to sit and enjoy the park you haven't got much choice but to sit near the swings

JustAnotherWhinger · Yesterday 19:51

This came up in our area and it was pointed out to our local councillors that there are no benches in the (huge) park except in the play area.
the play area is also half way through the park, and the park is used as the walking route from one bit of the village to the other. So it’s very common to see people without kids having a seat as it’s the only place they can.

Its mainly teens they complain about here, but after a group of them pointed out they they’re moved on from the bus stops, they’re moved on from the main st, and they get moved on from the wall around the school (perfect seat height) so they sit in the park there was a fundraiser done and more benches were put in.

Quite.
Take a brandy from a white chap, April, but stay clear of the brown man's vodka.

Well the invention of meta glasses hasn’t helped at all. Not least because they help predators but also because it makes us parents more wary because we know they help predators!

In our local park the footpath runs right past the kid’s playground. My DP, having spent nearly 10 hrs behind a computer screen, went out earlier and did a couple of laps round the park and I think that’s fine. We pay a ton in council tax which goes towards the upkeep of the park so why shouldn’t he use the park that is at the end of our road?

From what I can remember it’s no adults without children rather than men. The idea is that the park is centred on kids and those accompanying them

I was on the park with the kids once why my husband went on a run, said I’d meet him back at the park in an hour. Eldest needed a wee so I took him to the toilet next thing I know there’s a bunch of people accusing my husband of looking at children and hanging around parks 🤣 it was absolutely ridiculous!

DP had similar once. We were playing in a wooded area of our local park with DC and I went off to the loo for 5 minutes. On the way back a woman stopped to warn me that I should be careful as there was a suspicious looking man in the woods and described DP. Never mind that he was playing with his kids.

I'd widen that warning to all men if I were you.

Blimey do you really need to tell your daughters not to accept vodka from strange men? Even I wasn't that stupid!!

There seems to have been a rash of these on my local FB
I beg everyone who believes stuff the read on social media to take a break and genuinely look at stats and research on this.
It's estimated anywhere between 20-50% of social media posts are bots. Fake. Not real! Financed by those who would benefit the most from whatever spiel they're spinning. Accounts not even based in the country they're claiming to live in and support. Now it may not be Dave from number 50 who is sharing this 'info' but the original 'source' of this information will not be real.

Not lone white men though is it? My dad might sit on a bench and he wouldn’t think oh it’s near a playground I shouldn’t sit here. He would be having a rest on a walk or on his way to the shops
but he won’t get filmed I imagine or told to move on
