How do you pass the time on flights?

OMGitsnotgood · Today 17:58

Apart from the usual reading, watching movies /downloaded tv programmes/ puzzles in book or on phone?
i still like travel books even tho there’s more info online, so often do some trip planning on the way out.
on the way back I often use the time to plan for some upcoming event or project.
So enough to keep me entertained in the above but just wondering if there’s something different I could be doing? No small DC to look after.

I always think I’ll do something worthy like sort out the thousands of photos on my phone. But I mostly watch iPad with downloaded stuff or do puzzles. I don’t travel well so I mostly over analyse the potential for disaster, people watch and scan that map that shows how long you’ve got to go. I really wish I could snooze, but I can’t.

@PrincessHoneysuckleif I did that I would fall asleep with my mouth open and snore and dribble 😂

I’m usually sat next to a four year old, while jt makes the flight seem twice as long it solves the boredom.

Read or sleep

Drink

This. Helps with my slight nervousness about flying and actually sort of almost makes it fun for me. I very rarely drink, otherwise.

@CatsForLifeactually sorting photos is a really good idea, thank you. I like the thought of using the time wisely but for something more interesting than more boring life admin.

Clear my personal emails, I never keep on top of them normally and rely on flight time.

dicdicnurse · Today 18:10

Sleeping and reading.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · Today 21:04

I like to recline my chair just after the food is served and kick the seat in front.

CherryKerry · Today 21:04

Put a movie on and try and sleep with my noise cancelling headphones on as much as possible.

I love reading but can't concentrate to really get into the zone on a plane.

I'm always super bored on flights, even Edinburgh to Heathrow had me nearly pulling my hair out with boredom 😆.

Summerunlover · Today 21:52

This is the honest I take way more diazepam than I should and pass out!

bananaboats · Today 22:00

Sleep or usually download a few podcasts to listen to (& then fall asleep again listening to them!)

🤣🤣 and hog the arm rests, sit in the window seat and get up every 5 mins

I recently went on a long haul flight and watched a really sad film (had no idea it would be so traumatic!) so tried to hide the tears...followed by a snooze then started a book that was equally as sad. I looked a right state after ten hours and will plan better next time.

boundarysponge · Today 22:07

I see knitting is mentioned, if anyone is going to knit, some airlines don’t allow metal or circular needles. Check beforehand.

Swissmeringue · Today 22:08

I like to sit between my 8 year old and 4 year old and stop them from attempting to brawl. Really helps 6 hours pass without any boredom at all. Then I swap with DH and drink to get over the trauma. Usually I'm covered in stickers at that point.

I fly to and from Chicago a lot and on the way there I am usually alone. I always try and have at least two goggleboxes to watch or save up some episodes of something im enjoying watching. It's always through the day/evening on the way there so not really tired for sleeping. On the way back I often have my partner with me and we might watch a film together and I also listen to podcasts to fall asleep to. I couldn't sleep if alone but I can nod off if it's just me and my partner on two seats by the window. I will get wifi if I get really bored and chat to friends on WhatsApp.

MJagain · Today 22:14

for long haul:

Work on laptop.
catch up on WhatsApp’s, admin.
audiobook.
