No they will recall people who either retired or left the military. A family member is in this position and has received a reminder letter in the past year that he will be recalled if required. So yeah, make of that what you will.

This is actually an interesting point. So hypothetically if there was say a grey zone attempt by either Russia or Iran to bring the UK (by force or subterfuge) onto their side, then those who would suffer most are women's rights, gay rights, trans rights, environmentalists etc - basically the liberal progressive left. Those who would be affected least would be young straight white males, who are frequently maligned by the progressive liberal left as misogynistic, racist and far right.

Yet at the same time in the event of an actual conflict the liberal progressive left would be wanting these same white straight males to do the fighting and dying for them.

Which clearly raises the question of why these young straight white males would do that especially seeing as they are the section of society least at risk if the country became more authoritarian?

It was open before Trump started his idiotic war so it is not in our interests to support the war which caused it to be shut.

I can believe that. Rather than cut welfare spending to fund increased defence spending the current Government would rather commit British servicemen and ex servicemen to conflicts without the adequate resources and equipment.

Is this linked to the Hamas bodyguard who was arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences? A guy who was granted asylum and Indefinite leave to remain despite being a terrorist operative and, it turns out proceeded to plan terror offences throughout Europe? ( he is due to be extradited to Germany for plotting a synagogue bombing). What the hell were the Home Office thinking if they were? On what grounds are we granting known terrorists asylum?

The only way forward that I can see right now for this country is a Tory and Reform coalition and that is terrifying as I don’t want to see Reform win any seats.

Sadly that’s what it has come to. We need to stop illegal immigration, drill the North Sea, invest in defence and weather the Trump years without any further escalation.

The trouble is anything that any government does will just get blocked and the more polarised we become the weaker we become.

I'll never refuse. I was in the military in 2003 when they called up minimal reservists. Some were called up and quickly released after medicals. Others were used in the uk only. So its not always a bad scary experience

US under Trump is not the ally it used to be. Trump has no loyalty to anyone bar billionaires. He has threatened to invade Greenland, even though Denmark is a NATO member, so an ally. He has completely antagonised Canada, who has always been the closest ally of the US. Now their relationship is fractured and the trust will take ages to rebuild once Trump is gone.
