In any event eyewitnesses are notoriously unreliable and we know the lady farmer didn't hang around to do a formal headcount...

I’ve just remembered that I emailed my MP about the use of this base for attacks on Iran back in March. She reassured me that there was no risk to the UK whatsoever.

I feel like going back and asking if that’s still the case!

We would be, but that is because we have all ( in Europe but especially us and especially after Brexit) become overly dependent on them, so much of our defence comes from them and we've let ourselves become their 'yes' country. We witter on about our ' special relationship' which is more or less one sided. The silly thing is that the reason why we don't pay as much for our security is because the US bankrolls NATO. Without the US we would have to pay more into defence. We would have no choice. We could have gone in with France instead of the US for our nuclear deterrent and been equal partners instead of Americas poodle but we all decided not to bother. Trumps instability at least is eroding the overdependence.

Trump is temporary though.

Not worth destroying the special relationship for the sake of a 4 year term.

The special relationship only exists one way. It always has. The US are a global superpower. They don't need us. We certainly need them. We didn't need them as much when we were part of the world's most successful trading bloc and the US needed us more then too, as a loyal lapdog within, but now we are stuck in a massively uneven relationship that we have little to no power in. The Chagos fiasco demonstrates that. We just did the US's bidding. They changed their mind, we changed our mind. They changed it back, we changed it back. The Starmer deal involved us paying £100m a year for a US airbase which we hardly use!

Yep the idea the men are properly checked and vetted is a farce.

Agree. The point is that we don't know who these people are. They could be doctors and care workers or they could be criminals terrorists or agents of foreign states infiltrating the UK in order to commit terrorist attacks. Other countries are far stricter while within the ECHR but we just rubber stamp people apparently.

TBF objectively we don't actually know that.

Several sources have it that Fairford's security state had been raised late Saturday and there was an increased police presence..so it's possible the alledged attackers may have been spotted/interdicted outside the base wire anyway..but the drive by and then phone call from the, err member of the public stopped the attackers even getting that far.

The US decided to take charge of the World after WW2 which we wouldn't have won without them. As FDR said, you folks can't manage your affairs in Europe so we will manage them for you by putting American bases everywhere and providing loans to rebuild your countries. This is what originally defined the "special relationship."

Terrifying. We have absolutely NO IDEA who is being waved into the country, nor do the government or the security services, it seems. Its time they listened to the people instead of blaming so called "far right thugs" for the issues ordinary people are having to face day to day.
We are now a t the stage where we are letting child sex offenders off with probation while imprisoning others for throwing a plastic bottle at the police
