Came home to find my pear tree stripped bare overnight

Returned home to find my pear tree (back garden) stripped clean. No sign of any on the ground or anywhere nearby. I am gutted!!!! It was my best ever crop and those pears were a thing of beauty. Any ideas if any bird or animal could have done this is such an efficient and successful way?

I used to live opposite a park with a pear tree & it was definitely humans with broomsticks for dislodging the pears they could not reach. I have parakeets near me and they are quite messy eaters. So my money is on a headmaster and his OW or if it's a tall tree a couple of giraffes - ( possibly sent after the HM and Doreen by his wife and then waylaid by the pairs) . I'm not sure I have a better idea 😊

Probably a flock a pesky partridges, assisted by some hens, geese, swans and two doves?😉

Our hazelnut tree gets stripped overnight every year. The culprit can't be human (very difficult access) so assume it's squirrels. They leave no trace.

Squirrels. They stripped our damson trees over a couple of days last weekend. I was going to harvest on Friday but DH said he’d do it Monday morning. Down the garden he went and came back with barely a handful. And the squirrels have been patrolling the fence all week smirking.

You can get inexpensive wifi cameras that could be hidden in the garden and just re-charged every few weeks. They can be hidden in bushes if you don't want to overtly display them.

I wouldn't mind using my pears to feed a flock or parakeets - that sounds rather fantastic. Alas, not in London and nary a parakeet seen in these parts.

I used to work at a fruit research station, and wildlife can be shockers for fruit. We used to have cherry trees in the fields, they were grown in rows, and they had netting going along the rows to stop the birds stripping the cherries, little duckers still got in from time to time and they’d be flying down the rows, probably trying to get out lol
and squirrels … bloody squirrels were RUTHLESS in lockdown when we had a work thing going on with sunflowers, I grew mine from seeds , literally just got the lovely blooms and these grey ninjas were climbing down the fencing, and literally ‘swinging’ to get the blooms before racing off with their bounty … I’m sure I saw one with a mask on flicking me the v sign - fuckers … our doggo now chases the little pricks off!! 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

… if you can catch the culprits quickly enough you may get a nice meat and pear tasting pie … just saying 🤔😂😂

Its not Rocket science. Someone nearby knows something. Its not something everyone has in their garden.

This happened to my DMIL a couple of years ago. The house is isolated and on a fast road with no pavement so people don’t walk past and they have about an acre of garden so the pear tree is not easily visible.
It was eventually decided it was squirrels.

Had exactly the same. Was going to pick my gooseberries the following day, woke up and went to the bushes and every singe gooseberry was gone, not even a single one on the ground or any sign of an animal having been eating them. I'm sure it was birds, as they watch them to see when they're ripe just like we do. No way it was human as our garden is locked and high wall.

Birds can ABSOLUTELY take a whole tree of fruit without a trace.

OP How big was the tree? How many pears are we talking?
