Came home to find my pear tree stripped bare overnight

Returned home to find my pear tree (back garden) stripped clean. No sign of any on the ground or anywhere nearby. I am gutted!!!! It was my best ever crop and those pears were a thing of beauty. Any ideas if any bird or animal could have done this is such an efficient and successful way?

All my unripe apples have been stripped off by parakeets. They have been very noisy about it though and dropped loads of half nibbles ones on the grass so far from
stealthy.

I would say wildlife, possibly birds. Jackdaws can strip a birdfeeder in under an hour, I doubt they would have much issue stripping a tree. Especially as the RSPB have been discouraging people from feeding birds this year.

Something strips our cherry tree each year, and it’s like you say, literally one day they are there and the next they are all gone, every one. Our pears have been safe though, we have tons…I’d give you some!

Must be a human. I have several pear trees and apples trees and we have lots of squirrels, deers and foxes, but all our fruit trees are in tact, loads of the tree, loads on the ground.

Yep they are noisy but you get used to them so if they were especially loud I did not notice. It was literally overnight too… one day my DH were discussing picking some and making jam and the next day poooooffff they were gone. Not a feather anywhere. There is no access to my back garden from the front so this is not a case of someone wandering off the street. No one would even know I have fruit trees. It was only the local garden centre who confirmed for me what it was. Now I’m a bit more clued up and spot them going for the blossom in spring.

Fucking hell! Hope you named and shamed them!

A flock of parakeets once cleared our apple tree in a couple of hours.

Not at all, birds are very resourceful, had probably been casing the place for weeks .

It’s got to be humans. We have a pear tree that’s full right now. No way could animals clear it that quickly.

My pear tree was absolutely laiden this year. . I went out last weekend to see if there were any ripe enough to eat and found the main trunk had snapped off under the weight of the fruit and a muntjac deer was munching on the fallen pears still on the branches. They are really large Comice pears, look as good as any you can buy in Waitrose but rock hard. They did however poach well, so I've had poached pears with my porridge for breakfast most days now. Eat your heart out, Man from Del Monte.

badgers in our gardens could demolish a fair few of windfalls of an evening - between the family they could guzzle 20 plus…and try to climb for others.,they’re a bit partial to them…especially when pears are beginning to ferment and they get a bit tipsy 🥴🦡🍺

its a bit too soon for migrating thrush family birds (redwings, fieldfares) to be arriving and stripping…and even then it’d need to be a large flock to get a whole tree, and you’d see debris under the tree still

There is no way an animal strips a pear tree clean in one day. Do you have any cameras around your home? If not, let all your neighbours know that some theif has stolen all the pears from your garden and you will be scrutinising your camera footage.

I used to have a huge pear tree in the garden of my old flat and every year it was stripped in a matter of hours when a huge flock of starlings descended upon . I would put money on being the same because I seen them do it to my tree. They must love pears.

This has happened on our allotment field fairly frequently. All sorts of produce stolen for sale.

I have 2 mature pear trees in my garden. The conference pears stay put until picked/they drop. But the plymouth pears disappear overnight, without fail. I think it's just before they're ripe and the birds swoop in and take the lot.

You're quite wrong.

No human would take half rotten or bitten fruit from the tree or ground. Why would they?

Birds (especially Parakeets) WILL take every atom.
