Longley Farm Cottage Cheese

Over my many years on here, there have been many threads about the yumminess of Longley Farm cottage cheese. I am a big fan, and fairly local.

Availability must be regional because it's in just about every supermarket in Yorkshire. No trouble finding it here. I even got some reduced in Waitrose a couple of weeks ago - in my experience it's fine for at least 2/3 weeks after the use by date so no worries about it going off in that timescale.

I tend to get it from Booths or order the big pots from the farm as it's much cheaper that way and go for a walk in the area to justify the journey. Although I've just bought some Estate Dairy cottage cheese as it was on offer on Ocado a week or two ago. I wasn't particularly impressed with their Greek yogurt so I'm now a bit worried but it's even higher fat than LF so hopefully it will be good.

we have it on home made brown bread with cucumber slices/fresh beetroot/
watercress/rocket/thinly sliced pear or apple/shredded lettuce and radish -
the permutations are endless and wonderful as I’m sure you know

Our M&S has a few varieties and our medium sized Sainsburys has it, just the regular blue one. In fact, since a "stock reorganisation" it is the only cottage cheese they do.

My favourite way to eat it (apart from standing by the fridge with a spoon) is on ryvita or toast with an ample slick of Marmite, sliced tomatoes and lots of black pepper

Oh!!!! Booths!!!! I love it! I have to travel over an hour to get to a Booths. Best supermarket by far.

Booths (roughly an hour from me too unless I'm fellwalking then I can go to the Keswick one on my way home) does the Longley Farm extra rich jersey cream double cream which I've never seen anywhere else and it's absolutely gorgeous and so yellow.

I was loyal to Longley Farm for years until my husband bought some All Things cottage cheese. It is the best ever

Sainsburys does it and their gorgeous hazelnut yoghurt. I had a lovely chat with the checkout lady in Sainsbury's about the Longley's range and it's deliciousness!

how do you eat yours?!

I don't live far from where it is made, yet my local Tesco no longer stocks it. The store locator on Longley Farm's website is out of date as it still lists my local Tesco and a butcher that no longer exists.

It seems to be mainly farm shops that stock it now.

Food of the gods. Only surpassed by their hazelnut yoghurt. And the blackcurrant.

Lucky enough to live in the area so the local greengrocers stock it.

I don't understand how no-one else can get cottage cheese right. The watery abominations sold everywhere else are no comparison. I tried piatnica as recommended by someone on here as a decent alternative but it wasn't at all. It is available locally though the price has gone to £2.15 in my local Asda. It was only £1.85 in the posh farm shop the other day. What I do need is a 500g tub. They have them for the yoghurt so I don't see why not.

Sainsburys near me stock it but in smaller quantities than usual and have ramped up the amount of someother brand. Dh does most of food shopping for us and has been told that if you can’t buy longley farm don’t bring any cottage cheese back

They sell it everywhere around here, but we're not far from the farm. I remember there was a longley farm yoghurt dispenser at UMIST in the 90s when I was at uni there, and it was the best thing ever.

Which flavour of yoghurt?

We buy the All Things cottage cheese, the mango one is sublime. I just sit with the pot dipping rice cakes or cucumber into it. I have no manners.

They have it in my local Spar

You may be in luck! My M&S only ever seems to have the pineapple in store. Unfortunately for me that's the flavour I just can't get on with!

I like them all but my favourites are banana and caramel! Hazelnut is also up there, too.

Also very close to Longely farm and can get it from my milkman and my local organic veg box delivery, who deliver local organic veg and local (but not always organic) produce.
Even my local corner shop sells it.

Gutted the Longley farm cafe and shop, which sold the whole range disappeared during covid :(
