Has anyone else seen the news about what’s happening in Portsmouth this evening
A boat has arrived in Hampshire and the protesters from Dover are currently in the sea blocking passage with hundreds more on the quay blocking coaches waiting.

Sorry but you haven't a clue. A workmate of mine 15 years ago, moved away from Keighley with his family (where they'd lived all their lives) because his teenage daughter couldn't walk in peace to the bus stop without a car full of Asians kerb crawling and making indecent suggestions. Nowt to do with the far right and bloody flags!

And that is nothing to do with the Portsmouth situation, with respect.

I’ve seen this sort of behaviour in London and rural Home Counties, where I am now located.

You’ve no way of knowing if the “Asians” as you call them are born here British citizens or not. What they, undoubtedly, are is male.

Women and girls are becoming caught up in their rivalry and aggression. Yes there are some stupid territorial women but very, very few of us behave like that.

It’s the same bullish behaviour which makes us have to see flags everywhere. They claim they are defending “are women” and democracy but actually what they are doing is spoiling for a fight. Sick of it!

MaturingCheeseball · 07/09/2026 17:20

Yes, I posted upthread about dd being hissed at and jiggled in front of, and a poster -so cleverly they thought - said, “Yes the Far Right.”

Do people really think that vast numbers of men from cultures that disrespect women - especially women outside the family - and men of whom we know nothing - being set amongst communities is fair to women and girls? Why do we have to shut up, be called Far Right or a load of insults?

My understanding is that it’s always the case that it’s considered a massive risk to actually try and turn a boat around? In the case yesterday, these unstable mega dinghies are considered particularly risky. I think it might be one of the reasons why the traffickers overcrowd them. Because then it becomes more and more hazardous to actually try and turn them around. The risk of people drowning is very high.

it has been done, I suspect the movement of the tides and so on will be connected. I suppose they only do it if they consider it safe to do it. It has been done but not very often I think.

I agree that the French are likely to have questionable judgement on what is safe or not because they don’t want to deal with them. Again, it’s just my understanding, but I think yesterday‘s crossing was considered to be particularly risky.

I think activity is going to be particularly high before winter kicks in, and we will see more and more unusual launch points.

I can see some logic in that and they know better but turning a vessel around in shallow waters or watch it travel across the seas for hundreds of miles ?

MaturingCheeseball · 07/09/2026 17:22

@SevenYellowHammers - do you object to Palestinian or Pakistan flags flying? If you visit Bradford they are strung all across the streets.

Not that I want to give the traffickers (and all the Care for Calais etc crew) ideas, but why don’t they aim for the Channel Islands?

The Channel Islands are apparently concerned that this is a likelihood .

That is exactly what I thought. But they were an hour out of the French coast at this point so not in shallow water. Given how long it took to complete the crossing, I still find it odd, but they were escorted by I think five French boats and a rescue helicopter?

I actually had a conversation with AI about this, and it mentioned that there were children on the boat which would also have affected the decision, I guess.

I think the actual act of turning the boat round is probably considered the most risky point.

Septembersunrays · 07/09/2026 17:31

@BlessedIsTheFruit the times article was very good but things get thrown up that you think
..hang on ...that's not already in place ?
The family of Rihannon Whyte said they want all migrants held until their papers are sorted out .
One thinks so these unvetted strangers are left in hotels and hostels and whatever and we have no idea of their background ?

This is an untenable ridiculous situation.

The mind boggles.

Maybe training is needed on how to turn these vessels safely or attache something to the back and tow it backwards

Wow, how low can you stoop to conflate people who think we should be proud of our flag;

as actively encouraged in every other country other than the England/the UK, including by foreign nationals IN the UK who proudly display theirs after choosing to leave their country to come here;

with Asian men harassing girls/grooming/rape gangs?

I separated the sentence so it's easy to understand.

I think sane Brits are sick of people like you dismissing their valid concerns, quite frankly.

Questions should be answered.

I mean, I don’t get called racist because my skin is brown. People just go silent when I say anything, I don’t think they would dare to call me any names or insult me in real life as they would be afraid of being called racist if they disagreed with me out loud 🙄

I would just love to know why they insist it isn’t happening when so many people are screaming at them that it is.

I know it's nothing to do with Portsmouth. It was your reply to @MaturingCheeseball when you blamed the far right and flags for the intimidating behaviour of the antagonists. It's not.

ShakeMeUpJudie · 07/09/2026 17:44

SevenYellowHammers · 07/09/2026 16:21

You don’t see it then? I accept there’s different viewpoints and one’s core beliefs will influence perception.

However, to me the rise in racism, thuggery, bully boy tactics and misogyny seem part of the same zeitgeist.

I completely accept concerns about males coming here. I used to work with refugee YPs and while the vast majority were wonderful, we did have 2 males (Afghan and DR Congo if my memory serves me well) who had been boy soldiers and needed a lot more rehabilitation.

Nevertheless, the reported increase in sexual violence from asylum seekers is vastly exaggerated (Oxford observatory via Radio 4 More or Less) through statistical manipulation.

The greatest threat to women and girls, sadly, remains in the domestic setting. This isn’t to say I don’t believe that all newcomers should not be vetted, supported and if necessary detained if deemed necessary prior to decisions about going or staying.

It isn’t a perfect solution but what is? And definitely better than those thugs embarrassing this country on the beaches. Again, displaying aggression toxic masculinity.

I don’t consider demonstrating for the future of your country and the wellbeing of your wives, daughters and granddaughters to be toxic masculinity. The opposite in fact.

ShakeMeUpJudie · 07/09/2026 17:48

Basketcasebill · 07/09/2026 17:14

I don’t know why some people refuse to believe this is a problem.

Girls and women (and sadly, boys as the story people have shared from Portsmouth). should not be harassed when walking down the street.

If posters who don’t believe it live in areas where girls can walk home from school freely and without issue then good for them.

That doesn’t happen where I am. My daughter is 13 and is not living a carefree childhood. She’s not allowed to the local park, just across the road from our house, without adult supervision, none of her friends are. There are always a couple of parents sitting on a bench, just incase. And parents have had to step in before when groups of men have approached the girls. It’s not right at all.

She is driven to and from school as there have been so many incidents outside and around the school, the amount of car pools parents have set up as they just don’t feel safe with their daughters walking or getting public transport it’s shocking. They can’t have any freedoms as it’s just not safe.

Yes, the one of the hotels that housed them near the school has been closed down, but what happened was they were moved to HMOs in the same area, so it did nothing.

I get lewd comments (broken English, but you can tell the meaning by their gestures they make), when I walk my dog through the park. I am 46 and can shout at them to go and fuck themselves and flip my finger, they don’t intimidate me, but I don’t want my child put in a situation like that. She would be frightened.

People can talk about the police all they like but this shouldn’t be happening.

I think people are just wilfully ignorant if they can’t see this is happening.

But men who are trying to save women and girls from even more of this are displaying “toxic masculinity”, apparently.

Also interested in those going on about the masked protest in Dover, do you think of the many masked pro-Palestinian protestors who have filled our streets for almost 3 years as 'thugs'?

The BLM protestors?

These?

Masked Muslim youths take to east London streets to 'defend our community' after police banned UKIP march to 'reclaim' the area | Daily Mail Online

They was a reason the Dover demonstrators wore masks. The demonstration was not announced ahead of time to the police, therefore the police couldn't arrest for concealing identity as the area wasn't designated for protest activity, or more importantly try to stop it which has been happening.

It should be noted there were NO ARRESTS from the Dover demonstration, which has apparently largely been attributed to the police not being made aware in advance so no 'counter protestors' like Antifa being bussed in to agitate and create tensions.

Saw that with the Bell Hotel in Epping. Would never have believed if it they weren't caught on video getting out of the minibuses with the police standing at bus exit as they got off!

I don't like people wearing masks to protests as a rule. It is intimidating no matter what the cause. (And also means all the people protesting various causes the same so it's hard to tell what they are actually about. It's just a general intimidating vibe.) Most people don't. There is no double standard.

The tone of the very article you posted was clearly that the masked aspect of the men was a problem. Hence why they led with that as the first word of the headline. It sorted if proves the point people are making about the masked aspect of the Portsmouth protest being intimidating.

But men who are trying to save women and girls from even more of this are displaying “toxic masculinity”, apparently.

Well, I’ve not minded a bit of toxic masculinity when I’ve had men trying to intimidate me in the park and a local man, (one who I’d assume some posters here would accuse of being a wife beater on benefits as Iive in a deprived area), has seen and has offered to walk me and my dog to the main road.

Or when a couple of them stepped in over the summer when a few girls were upset in the park as men were filming them.

If that’s toxic masculinity, then I am all for it.

The “they probably go home and beat thier wives” crap is getting really old now.

That’s the language of someone who is hearing a lot of scare tactics from those with a vested interest in causing fear and paranoia.

Immigration is down generally, small boat immigration is down.

I have every sympathy for those who feel disenfranchised as a result of of the deindustrialisation of this country but that’s different to the asylum seeker issue.

Look at the taxpayers’ money and resources that were wasted by these thugs (“Brave Boys” my arse) and even more to be wasted in prosecution.

Then the silly twonks will be whining that they can’t get work because of their criminal records. If any of them actually cared for this country they’d realise the damage they are causing it. That moron convicted kidnapper is on radio as I write. Well, the Nazis always did recruit convicted criminals.

Nothing changes.

What about people’s actual lived experience?

Septembersunrays · 07/09/2026 18:22

There are thousands of men arriving; do you deny that ?
And they are from cultures which are backward on women's rights ? Do you dispute that !

If there’s one thing I can’t bear on MN it’s people who post in a patronising fashion to others just because they disagree. Bonus points if they do so whilst talking nonsense.

Immigration may be down, if small boat immigration is down it’s not by much, But so what? It’s still continuing and it’s still too much. Do you really think people are so stupid that you can just say “Yes, there are thousands of undocumented young men arriving from countries with completely different values and attitudes to women but don’t worry, there are slightly fewer arriving than last year” and they will say oh that’s all fine, no worries?

Absolutely no idea what you are saying about deindustrialisation and what it’s got to do with small boats and attitudes to women and girls.

And are you really suggesting the demonstrators are Nazis?

Training won’t help

The issue is the dinghy is being packed out overcrowded but maybe 10 times the number it should carry. Or think of it as 10 times the weight it should be carrying.

The normal towing practices don’t apply here.

I’m not a boat expert, I had a chat with someone in the forces about this and I had loads of questions for AI last night because I was genuinely baffled by the route they took. But I think as the French actually are patrolling the coast a little bit more than they did, the smugglers chose to find a new launch point.

I was wondering about this recently. Aren't they only about 15 miles from the French coast? Perhaps it is because they are self-governing, although the authorities would have a hell of a job ejecting them if they did land. I did read somewhere that the Isle of Man has zero asylum seekers billeted there, so they clearly are at some kind of advantage.

And the thing is, even if you aren’t living in an area like this right now, there is a very real risk that, sooner or later, you will be.

My daughter is 12 and has really just started going out and about in our town. It’s alright just now but I know it’s coming. There are rumours abound.

It absolutely baffles me that there are people who don’t care about this issue, and who actively seem to want these men here. Baffling.

Why don’t you want better for your daughters, than this shit? And why are you siding and sympathising with these men because they certainly wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire.

Agree with this. Scorn and opprobrium are poured on the British working class for opposing mass migration from incompatible cultures, yet in many ways they are the canary in the coalmine, they are the first to feel the impact upon their communities and services. The middle classes don't have a clue yet.

I also think a lot of MC people are secretly worried too (and certainly wouldn't want the men who are coming over living next door) but are quite happy to let the WC protesters do the dirty work while they keep their left wing tolerant reputations untarnished
