Does anyone else keep a sex diary?

Is it just me that keeps a sex diary?! Not in a written account of the sordid details way, but I'll put a little x on any days DH and I have had sex on my calendar.

I mentioned it to a friend recently and she thought it was really bizarre! I had to admit actually it is a little pointless!

It stemmed from when I was planning my pregnancy many years ago, but I cant seem to shake the habit now and like to keep track still 😂

Does anyone else do this or do I stand alone?!

Sort of. As a gift, I gave my husband sex every day for a year, no excuses (except force majuere, illness etc.) after idly picking up a book called ‘Just Do It’, written by a woman who did it.
I make a note of when we do it so he gets the full year, 365 days!
it started out as a joke, but has now become a much needed spicy turn of events, and we sometimes have more than once a day; after 30 odd years together, it has helped keep intimacy alive.

Good lord how do you have the time! Your husband must think he's won the jackpot with you 😉

I use it as material for our Christmas round robin letter to the family

"Well it has been a busy year for the Smiths! Can't believe Jocasta is doing her DofE Gold and 5 A-levels, and meanwhile, Ben has ticked off 23 more successful ejaculations inside Sheila than last year! Although we don't talk about the Halloween Party Incident with next door's dog - oops!"

If you have sex every day, why do you need to keep a note of when you do it? It’s every day.

Good question. Just because, I suppose. We sometimes miss days for illness etc.

MyTwoBonobos · 04/09/2026 20:12

Hi @Isitjustmethatdoesthis i was on the previous spreadsheet thread. I also got some shtick because I mentioned I used an intimacy app to log it. I even ended up contacting the developers with a few ideas that they actually built into the app lol

I got out of the habit of logging in the end. Did it for a few years it was interesting to see when we were most horny days, months years. I think we’re probably outliers but couldn’t let you take the flack alone x

We have become skilled at fitting it in 😅

Only in my period app
Became habit Because I accidentally got pregnant a few years ago when I was shagging around a bit.
Decided to keep an eye on things.
Now I'm Peri it gives me more of an idea of when my elusive periods might turn up. Suddenly climbing the other half like a tree after a week of wanting to drown him? It's on it's way.

I recently found a diary from 2002 when I had a friend with benefits and I had placed a tick next to his initial. I puzzled over the meaning for all of 5 minutes and realised it was the times we had had sex which was a lot. In normal terms we were in a relationship but being newly separated then divorced and him being single, he still is, neither wanted commitment.

You don’t keep count of orgasms?

Amateur.

🤣

MiddleAgedDread · 04/09/2026 20:26

I use the Flo app to track cycles and log it in there

Myli1 · 04/09/2026 21:07

Yes I do, I have a little shorthand diary in the notes section on my phone which I have kept since the start of my relationship with DP, and I also enter the data into the health app which I can later view as an annual graph.

No, sadly. Never occurred to me but Ive been married 22 years.

We are a childfree house this evening and I did have to say to DH that we might need to be a little 'creative' because he's been working abroad the past 7 months so I never bothered to keep up with my contraception. Cos what's the point, right? I'm 53 mind you, but don't need any little surprise last gasps of fertility taking their A-levels in 16 years.

Oh dear lord…you’d be going on 70 at GCSEs and 72 collecting A level results 😖 Doesn’t bear thinking about does it?

Yes, I write position, length (duration before anyone asks) and marks out of ten plus any injuries sustained.

😂😂 this really made me laugh

Random321 · 04/09/2026 21:41

I thought your sex diary was going far more detailed & graphic thsn an X on the calender.

I do despite being completely infertile.

I start tracking everything on my period app about 15 years ago when gynacologist were investigating. Have never stopped even though it's utterly pointless.

You're assuming a problem. Some of us just want to track our mojo. Data is a wonderful thing, whatever you end up making of it. I also track weight, exercise, finances etc and keep a daily journal.

OP replied to another post saying that they literally used the 'sex log' to confront a partner about a lack of sex in their relationship. Even if the original intent wasn't to do that, they did ultimately utilise it to address a relationship issue, so I don't think it was unreasonable for me to consider that one possible reason for keeping such a record was to engage with a problem.

I don't think there's anything wrong with people doing whatever they like with their own time, including habit or health tracking. It's just not something that feels necessary or useful to me. I also don't consider tracking the frequency of sex to be quite the same as routinely tracking finances, weight or exercise. Those are things where there is a more obvious practical or medical reason for keeping a record; I don't personally see the same benefit in recording how often I have sex.

I also don't think frequency necessarily tells you very much about the quality of a sex life or relationship anyway. If someone enjoys keeping the data, that's absolutely fine.

I work in Big Data and AI, so I spend enough time knee-deep in analytics without wanting to take that into my personal life as well. My point was about the utility of this particular data: collecting data isn't inherently useful simply because it exists. There needs to be some purpose or benefit to collecting it, and I don't see one for myself here. That's a personal judgement about the usefulness of this particular metric, not a suggestion that data itself isn't useful..

Yankiedoodlebabe · 04/09/2026 22:37

Yes, I use the Apple health app for tracking sexual activity, but I’m not married and am ethically non monogamous.

The Fucking Frequency Spreadsheet

Oh no! Brain bleach, brain bleach. As the mind works...

The "fucking frequency spreadsheet" brought up that tosser at work with the endless spreadsheets (aka my boss), which led to a random thought of "i bet he has one", which led to the memory of his drunken confession of shagging in a hotel kitchen.

Yes I do, but I record lots of things in my diary, where I’ve been, books I’ve finished, films I’ve seen, etc so I feel like it’s just another part of life that I like to track iyswim

Same here. I’ve kept a diary since I was around 10 and put all sorts in it. I started putting in codes for different levels of intimacy/activity right from my first boyfriend and kept doing it as the years have passed. When trying to conceive I’d put in a squiggle resembling a fish (sperm)! If I’d ever get the old diaries out of the loft I’d be able to tell exactly what I did, with whom, on what dates. Not just sex, but all kinds of other things too, such as where we’d had meals out and even what we’d eaten, where I’d been shopping and what I’d bought. I’ve kept diaries religiously so making notes of physical/intimate activity isn’t that weird really.

Oilburnadvice · 05/09/2026 05:29

wtf nooooo
But reading your title I thought it was a bit more saucy than conceiving

I assumed it was referring to furniture, such as broken chandeliers or vases and chairs, damaged carpets. Possibly including flocks of birds startled and cats offended. That sort of thing.

SometimesThingsHappen · 05/09/2026 06:20

I once saw my sister had love hearts on her calendar. I asked her if she was marking when she had sex. No, it was to mark when she had to give the dog heartworm tablets. 🤣

Absolutely. I run an evidence based household so KPIs and quantitive / qualitative metrics are an essential strategic decision making tool.
