I still can't watch documentaries about 911.
I was in New York state that day, travelling to the airport to fly home.

Talkinpeace · 04/09/2026 19:56

I went to the memorial in 2012 and it was viscerally moving
the last few times I was in NYC I did not go down there
but I have mementos at home
and in my head
that will stop me ever forgetting that day

Where is my fellow WingNut?! It’s Big Block of Cheese Day!

“What is that?!”
”It’s where you’ve been living all this time.”

I went in 2013. I have no connection to NYC or the day at all but I cried the whole time I was there. You could feel the grief and loss in the air.

I hope the next week or two pass gently for you and anyone else directly affected by those horrible events.

BustingBaoBun · 05/09/2026 05:29

💐 to all those on here with memories and experiences of 9/11. We will never forget.
I was in NY five weeks after 9/11 and it is seared in my memory. The memorials through the city, the grief, the firehouses that lost men and the public paying respect, the outpouring of love and grief together.

Trump just tramples over everything connected to the tragedy, he doesn't have an empathetic bone in his body, I wish he could disappear during the remembrance of 9/11 and the days around it because he just shits on everything connected to grief and loss.

Zonder · 05/09/2026 06:37

It must be terrible for anyone who lost someone in 9/11 @BustingBaoBun - worse than usual.

Trump's message before Xi visits.
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said that unless the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates, he would stop trading with countries with which the United States has a deficit.
"High interest rates put the U.S.A. at a very unfair disadvantage, and I won't allow that to happen!" said Trump, who has repeatedly demanded that the Fed cut rates.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday reported stronger-than-expected job creation in August, prompting traders to boost bets on a hike later this month.

"We should have the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World ... LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT," Trump said in a social media post.

Are the Fed not supposed to be independent?

He's been busy lately - supporting Argentina against the UK on the Falklands, removing protections for gray wolves, and wondering how to deal with the judge who extended the block on his order on restricting mail voting.

With Trump, nothing's independent. I am the State and the State is me.

How does one stop the US trading with China for example. Other than needing several boxes of sharpies.

Interestingly, listening to Pod Save America yesterday it sounds like a lot of Republicans have a case of “I’m washing my hair that night” when it comes to Trumpalooza in Texas next week. An awful lot of them suddenly can’t make it, wonder why they might be distancing themselves….

I've just seen this posted on FB. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I can't see anything like that happening any time soon, unless there is a civil war.

Sorry if this has already been posted. I thought it must be a joke when I first saw it but have screenshot it from the horse's mouth.

Doofus is off to his golf course in Ireland on September 12th. Apparently going to use the not very totally safe new AF1 plane.

He's due to meet President Catherine Connolly and Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Dublin first. Connolly has been less than complimentary about 🍊💩 in the past.

Mel not going so it's 'chocks away' for Natalie.

Hoping for torrential rain, thunder and lightning just over the Doonbeg course.

This is essentially a private visit to attend the Irish Open but by adding what will probably be a pointless 30 minute meeting with Connolly and Martin he gets the US tax payer to fund it all.

Classic Trump 101

Is he going via Norway? I saw some reports that he might be attending the royal funeral on the 9th

Perfection, of a kind, was what he was after,
And the poetry he invented was easy to understand;
He knew human folly like the back of his hand,
And was greatly interested in armies and fleets;
When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter,
And when he cried the little children died in the streets

I think that's when the Repugs are having the 'party to be avoided' in Texas - Drumpf is being reported as definitely attending. And he's due at the 9/11 Pentagon commemoration on the 11th.

So much more important bigly "me, me, me" things on his calendar.

"Nobody from the Freedom Caucus is getting raptured before the returns from Pennsylvania come in."

Love it.

As for "LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT," what exactly do you, personally, trade with other countries, little Fart, apart possibly from lies traded with various dictators? I have a strong feeling that you not trading with anyone would have precisely zero effect, because not doing something you didn't do in the first place tends that way.

Oh I can see a lot of it happening pretty easily IF there's a Dem in the WH and is the majority party in Congress. Not overnight, but over a period of time. As we are seeing, a lot can be accomplished in 4 years if a POTUS puts their mind to it. It'll start with renaming things (lakes, gulfs, airports, etc), then removing anything easily painted over or lettering removed; his name on things, tacky decor, plaques denigrating other persons or revising history. Then possibly things that might be more easily changed like the Rose Garden or that helipad he's putting in (what an eyesore!). When it comes to actual buildings, that will be harder due to the expense involved. I think most of them will unfortunately remain, but hopefully be renamed or simply have no name at all (ie 'The WH Ballroom' rather than 'The wonderfully magnificent Trump Ballroom').

It's why he's so busy creating monuments to himself. He wants to 'create' as much as he can whilst he has the chance in the hopes that some things will remain. Especially things that will be large and 'solid' and expensive to tear down.

https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/04/politics/trump-monuments-ballroom-arch

Personally, I think the Govt should call for volunteers to help in tearing down and removal. I'm sure there are plenty of places where everyday craftspeople could work that wouldn't need some kind of security clearance. And there may be others who do have security clearance who would volunteer. I know I would if I lived in the DC area. I'd be out there with a scrub brush and a bucket or some paint and a brush quicker than you can say knife!

Trump says ‘nobody will’ build monuments for him once he’s gone | CNN Politics

President Donald Trump did not dispute that he is building monuments to himself amid his architectural blitz in Washington, DC, saying in a recent interview that “nobody will do it once I’m gone.”
