It's the 'two weeks' again.

Construction crews could begin the excavation process for what will be President Donald Trump’s massive 250-foot-tall arch in as soon as the next two weeks, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced on Thursday.
The monument — which will be erected in a traffic circle at the head of the Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River, coming between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery — has generated controversy as concerns emerged about the design and traffic congestion during construction.

The arch would take two to three years to construct on the proposed schedule, according to documents released in June.

I find it interesting how different news folk cover the same story. When I saw your post my first thought was "archeology", and that is what I searched for with this. I got this CNN article

Trump administration plows ahead with groundbreaking for ‘triumphal arch’ | CNN Politics

"But first, an assessment of how the arch impacts historic and cultural sites – known as a Section 106 review, a key requirement under the National Historic Preservation Act – must be completed."

Politico appear to be looking at the project from a disruption angle, CNN more of a law and heritage angle.

I side with the CNN way, being a "Time Team" fan. And here is a link to the section 106 review stuff

Section 106 Review: The Ultimate Guide to Protecting America's Historic Places (uslawexplained.com)

"Imagine a new federal highway is planned to be built a few miles from your town. The construction company is ready, the funding is approved, and the bulldozers are warming up. But then, work stops. Someone points out that the planned route goes directly through the ruins of an 18th-century settlement and crosses a riverbank considered sacred by a local Native American tribe. What happens now? This exact scenario is why the Section 106 review process exists. Think of it as America's mandatory “pause button” for progress. Before any federal agency can fund, license, or approve a project—from a new cell tower to a massive dam—it must stop and consider what that project might do to our nation's historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage. It's a legally required conversation, not a veto. Its goal is to ensure that we don't accidentally erase our past while building our future. For you, the average citizen, it is the single most powerful tool you have to make your voice heard when a piece of history you care about is at risk."

I am not against progress. Far from it. But as we all know, the UK lost so much Archeology and heritage in the post war modernization drive that the lessons learned worldwide on that should not be forgotten. And the US does have those lessons in their own law.

And Trump just tramples all over it.

Mail in voting and the USPS

Many people inside and outside the US do not realise that several States
ONLY
do mail in voting.

There are no poll booths anywhere.
California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Washington - if your mail in ballot is blocked by the USPS
you lose the right to vote.

Texas, the size of France, has only around 100 Polling stations where you could possibly vote in person

So if Trump gets his way to massively interfere with Mail in Voting
the mid terms are dead in teh water

California still has polling places. You can mail your ballot, use a drop box, or walk into a polling place and vote.

Who wants to play a game.

Build the wall ? Rio Grande border patrol ? Fly the bald eagle ?

All these and more on the official Whitehouse website. Here is the link

Arcade – The White House

For those who do not want to click the link, I have attached a screenshot.

I scored 7 on the Rio Grande game. You get to be a white man in a suit rounding up non white people who then seem to attach to you as if chained. The same as a snake game. And the ones you catch sort of change colour when caught. Very KKK.

Not mentioned here yet AFAIK.
Gloria Steinem has died at 92.
Presumably flags at the WH won't be at half staff for her.
We have lost another good one.

I honestly cannot summon the words. Right below a banner link titled "Election Integrity" as well. It hurts my heart to think anything positive about the USA at the moment.

She, like others, must have believed her work to have been more or less done by the end of the last century. How must they all have felt to have seen it all torn down in a matter of minutes (figuratively) by a rogue President bent on being a bastard?
May she rest in peace.

You don't have to have your ballot to vote in a polling place, at least in my state. They do have ballots there. I'm sure other states have similar accommodations. After all, people do lose, make mistakes on, or even not receive their ballots.

In some counties here you cast a 'provisional ballot' until the County Clerk verifies that you have not submitted your mail in ballot.

"In-Person Voting Tip

  • If you choose to vote in person, it may help to bring the ballot that was mailed to you.
  • If you don’t bring your mailed ballot, some counties will require you to vote using a provisional ballot that will be counted once elections officials check that you are eligible to vote.
  • If you live in one of the following “Voter’s Choice” counties, you can get a regular ballot at any Vote Center, even if you didn’t bring the ballot that was mailed to you: Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Fresno, Humboldt, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Mariposa, Merced, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Diego, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Ventura, and Yolo. For more information check the California Secretary of State’s website."

Lawsuits have been filed and many states have said that there is not enough time to enact the restrictions (even if they were inclined to do so. So at this point no one knows where things will be with the new voting restrictions by 4 Nov. I'm watching closely and will decide a few days before the midterms if I'm going to drop my ballot off or if I will go to a polling place and vote in person. I'm in a 'voter's choice' county.

Trump is going to achieve what the hijackers of United 93 failed to do
the destruction of the White House and the National Mall

RedTagAlan · 04/09/2026 16:17

Reading about this Reform sting, and how the Characters are connected to Thiel fella, and Vance/Orban/AFL.....I am getting full on " The Boys from Brazil" vibes. And this is not conspiracy; this is researched pukka journalism.

I need to add another layer of foil to my hat.

Burnham really does need to put Bond on the case.

He is going to achieve what the British could not do, and reverse the tax rebellion of 1776.

You know that future historians (obviously not American ones) will never be able to resist the lure of labelling the US the "one-quarter millennium republic.", Which would befit the nation that came up with the 3/5ths compromise.

There is no suitable reaction emoji. The mind boggles that some people are still positive about that administration. One I heard interviewed said she only paid attention to politics to know when to vote, so there's that...

the destruction of the White House and the National Mall

This is something that is often in my mind. All that's being done is a revolting slur on the memories of those selfless, brave passengers and crew, who gave everything to prevent further destruction, suffering and misery on the ground.

I knew of two people who worked in the World Trade Centre. The DS and his wife of my parents' business partner. Even though nearly 25 years have passed it still feels like yesterday.

Buildings are buildings - but the values of what the 40 brave souls of United 93 fought and died for (and of all who did their best to survive, rescue and support on that ghastly day) lie not just in the WH demolition rubble, but in the ruins of decency within the WH and Capitol buildings.

September 11th 2001 is still horribly fresh in my mind.

I will not fully explain why because I have done on Linkedin and X and it would thus be utterly outing

but
What Trump has done to DC and to respect for the USA
will take more than 25 years to heal
