So after 10 months of bobbing about in the deep, blue sea, the first port of call for the USS Abraham Lincoln will be in Pattaya, Thailand.
I know I am an absolutely horrible person for letting this cross my mind, but can’t help but think some of those service wives might be getting more than a novelty tourist Buddha when those seamen (🫢) return.

Phuket...... could be worse.

It could have decided to head straight back to San Diego.

But seriously, at least they will be able to fly replacement crew in if needed.

Bad Jade!
Are heroic warfighters allowed to take antibiotics or are they just expected to grin and bear it?

.

I complained to Google maps about the change to Lake America on their maps and got long-winded gobbledegook in reply. They follow the directions of the Orange Sharpie in Charge at U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) and that's that.

First widespread use of penicillin, I think.

As far as I can tell the renaming is only for thick Americans. I can't see it with a UK connection, I asked DB if he could see it, but he uses a UK based VPN as a matter of course, and like me couldn't be arsed to investigate.

Meanwhile I was amused by whispers that Trumps next move - having taken over the media and courts - is to take over the investments industry and force them all to patriotically buy up US government debt ("Freedom funds").

I say amused, but this is probably where he will next try to bully the world. Something like "If the UK government persuaded UK investors (i.e. pension funds etc) to load up on some low yield fat US treasury bonds, the US might ignore the Falklands".

It was when DB briefly muttered about retiring to the UK that I felt the US is beyond repair. It was his lifes dream to move there.

I am mildly surprised the mother wasn't charged with felony homicide. Someone clearly messed up badly there.

The headline is disingenuous to say the least. 85% of Trump voters still happy with his performance so far

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-voters-regret-increase-poll-b3042286.html

The article also points out that

"This is hardly a mass exodus from the Trump tent, but is enough that it certainly could’ve been decisive against Trump in what was a relatively close 2024 election"
and
"Just 58 percent of Trump voters said they felt very confident they made the "right choice" in 2024, down from 74 percent in April 2025, according to the UMass poll results."

Overall, not particularly positive for Trump. is it.

If I were Trump, I would be delighted. That's far fewer votes he has to "lose" than you'd have thought.

I take it we've all read about the whistleblower who was working on the USPS project to disappear mail-in votes ?

Whistleblower says USPS system Trump ordered for mail ballots is flawed and untested

An executive order from Trump, which is stymied in the courts, required the U.S. Postal Service to rapidly build a complex system to vet mail ballots.

Anti biotic resistance is widespread in South East Asian countries.

Too late now. They swallowed the lies of a proven liar and sex offender and now their country's going to shit. Who'd have thought it?

Meanwhile 85% would vote for him again. As my mum told me after coming back from her last American holiday in 2024, "You don't understand. They go without food to give him the money."😕

Good Jade! The Thai Gov't heard you.

Thai police have launched raids on sex workers in a resort city before the arrival of 5,000 American sailors who have spent nine months at sea.
After a gruelling deployment that has been repeatedly extended, the USS Abraham Lincoln is set to dock late on Tuesday in Pattaya, a coastal city that has hosted US troops seeking rest and recreation since the Vietnam War.
Before their arrival, however, Pattaya’s police force has clamped down on the sex industry, with at least 40 people arrested in nightlife raids over the weekend.
Anek Srathongyoo, the city’s police chief, said law enforcement agencies have been ordered to step up security measures to prevent undesirable situations.
But there are also fears the arrival could lead to an outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases.

Re Lake America
I fired up my VPN and indeed Google Maps has changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. Sneaky, if only people in the US can see that.

Google maps offers me "Lake Ontario (Lake America)" but the actual map is clearly labelled Lake Ontario.

I am in England.

Llttledrummergirl · 01/09/2026 19:59

I'm in England and it's Lake Ontario here.
Although, if I search for lake America, I still get Lake Ontario.

Edited

Emily Maitlis is spot on - Trump's farcical renaming and repetition of intent etc is potentially more insidious and consequential than you'd think.

Indeed.

As Maitlis says, "This is what conquest and imperialism looks like in 2026."

Conquest by Sharpie.

Justsaynonow · 02/09/2026 02:03

I am...not happy. I'm in Canada and don't want to see Lake America.
First 2 tries and then google maps got it right.

I think the renaming is stupid, but it does change our mnemonic from 'HOMES' (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior) to Superior, Huron, America, Michigan, Erie. Apropos, no?

Canada needs to change the name of Lake Michigan to Lake Canada. I know it's within US borders, but why nit pick?

The other thing is if he wanted to be 'real' he would have changed it to 'Lake United States of America'. After all, Canada is in North America, so technically it's 'American' too.

Remarks: Donald Trump Discusses Healthcare Affordability in the Oval Office - August 31, 2026 — Trump Archive (trump-archive.com)

What a humdinger this one is. It's the superlative of superlatives. Let's go Don. Let's hear your non communist/socialist free market fix for health costs in the USA.

"Thank you very much. This is to me a really big day, one of the biggest ever, because this announcement is as big as it gets medically. I think it just can't get -- certainly when you talk about medical and dollars in the same sentence, it doesn't get bigger"

Biggest ever. This is gonna be big. This day is so big the setting sun has decided to stay up a bit longer.

"And I'm not even sure that other presidents tried."

Not as trying as you for sure. Come on then. Tell us.

"And that's Most Favored Nation drug pricing, biggest thing you'll hear."

Oh. I think I know where this is going...

"You know, if we would cut drugs for like one-eighth of a percent, it was like a big deal."

Ahh.

"We're cutting them at numbers that you'll hear in a second are astronomical. "

Ohh..

"Nine new pharmaceutical companies are committing to deliver their lowest drug prices for American patients; they're largely standing behind me."

It would be a bit rude of them to stand in front of you. Go on..

" It's a group of very interesting names. We'll have to talk about that later."

I will mark it in my diary. Two weeks.

"Great people. For decades, Americans paid the highest drug prices anywhere in the world by far, it wasn't even close. We were ripped off by the pharmaceutical companies, and we were ripped off more than anything by other countries throughout the world that we never had a president that wanted to fight for us."

You mean the folk standing behind you ? And other countries ripped you off ? How does other Presidents tag onto that in your sentence. Oh never mind.

"But under the Most Favored Nation agreement that I negotiated at great length and at great -- really lost some friends over it, some very good friends."

YOU DONE IT... take note of that dear reader. And yeah, not all doners can be winners eh.

"It wasn't easy but under that Most Favored Nation agreement, we now pay the lowest price paid by other countries anywhere in the world. So, we went from the highest price for pharmaceuticals, for drugs to the lowest."

Jings. How much are we talking here ?

"We've slashed the cost of dozens of commonly used medications and ultimately everything, all drugs, by price differences of 400, 500 and even 600 percent."

Huh ? So these drug companies are now paying the patient to take the drugs ?

"Drug prices have gone down and will go down 50, 60, 70, 80 percent. "

But you just said ..... of never mind.

"This has a tremendous impact on health care because, as you know, pharmaceuticals, medicine is such a big part of health."

OK. And how does this work ?

"In total, these agreements are projected to save Americans more than $600 billion over a very short period of time. Think of that, $600 billion."

Short period of time ? That will be 2 weeks then. So come on, tell us how this will be done.

"For example, we have slashed the cost of the weight loss drugs like Ozempic by more than $1,800 per year. IVF patients are seeing savings on fertility drugs of more than $6,000 per birth. "

Tell us... come on...

"These savings are available to all Americans at TrumpRx.gov"

Ahh right. And the sun stayed up for this, and made the day longer. Right you are.

"It's the largest drug discounts, the largest price reductions in the history of medicine. I would say that's pretty big."

Sure thing Don. And I bet you tell Melania you have a 12 inch dick. She does have a tape measure you know.

"Nobody can believe some of the medicines that are taking place, some of the diseases that are disastrous, that lead to death, where the people actually walk away in a week and two weeks or they're completely healed."

Erm...... ok.. I thought that is what your mega Churches were for. The poor people can go to Evangelical revival tents ?

Anyway... I checked to the end, and no mention was made of Don Jr and his drug website. I bet his makes more money than yours Mr President.
