Don’t forget that the BBC points out that the text of this “agreement” has not been released yet and nothing said so far differing anyway from what was agreed under the 1951 agreement.

Basically sounds like they’ve reprinted that on a new sheet of paper and changed the date on it!

I admit that I await details of the agreement with some trepidation.
But the PM added that the deal still needed approval from legislators, and would "have to go through the necessary parliamentary procedures to enter into force".

According to Trump, it included a rule that no US adversary could maintain a military presence in Greenland or "make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval".

Who determines what is sensitive and why should a foreign country have veto powers over inward investment. It's massive overreach.
I would want to scrutinise that agreement extremely carefully as it sounds as if it's not the Danish/Greenland authorities that will be running their own country.

Sorry for the multiple posts. I won't put links in here, but a speech he made in the Rose garden caught my eye. Something specific.

Remarks: Donald Trump Addresses Guests at a Rose Garden Dinner - September 17, 2026

"DONALD TRUMP 00:06:25-00:07:04 (39 SEC)
With the first order, we're opening up millions of acres of federal land for our hunters and fishers........... we believe that public lands belong to the American people and to the public, and hunters, fishers, and outdoorsmen should be able to access them."

Hunters and fishers ? That is how they spin it. But we Trump watchers know what it was. I looked back at his orders. And here it is -

"Immediately upon returning to office, President Trump signed an Executive Order to Unleash American Energy that opened hundreds of millions of acres Federal lands and waters to energy development and streamlined permitting to increase production of reliable and affordable energy"

Back to Agent Orange -

DONALD TRUMP 00:07:04-00:07:26 (21 SEC)
And they weren't able to. They'd be arrested if they even walked onto certain property. And this order also protects the use of affordable traditional le- -- well, this is pretty good. Is that, I never knew this was a problem, Doug, you're gonna have to educate me, but you put it in. Lead ammunition. Is ammunition, lead ammunition was a problem, huh?

So He does not know bullets are made of lead. This defender of the 2nd. He goes on , now it's about Biden and his war on guns. Then this

"....and I terminated America's involvement in the United Nations Globalist Register of Conventional Arms, which was an absolute disgrace. And the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed on at all."

Yeah. " United Nations Globalist Register ".

There is his antisemitic trope dog whistle. His Breitbart reading base hear that alright.

And of course, the UN register is for the arms trade.

"Definition
Established with effect from 1 January 1992 and maintained at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Includes data on international arms transfers as well as information provided by Member States on military holdings, procurement through national production and relevant policies. The Register comprises seven categories of major conventional arms and captures the bulk of the global arms trade in the categories of conventional weapons covered by it. The seven categories are the five categories of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (battle tanks, armoured combat vehicles, large caliber artillery systems, attack helicopters and combat aircraft) plus warships and missiles/missile launchers."

It has fuck all to do with a Kentucky redneck who spends his evenings polishing his AR barrel under a confederate flag.

This mob is disgusting.

I didn't believe that first thing this morning, but according to Auntie Beeb: "Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed that the agreement will be signed at the United Nations General Assembly next week."
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c63d7lexyym1o

I strongly suspect that the agreement to be signed is not the one that Trump is blethering on about. Much like the Iran/Hormuz agreements, that one will be a work of fiction.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 19/09/2026 09:03

@PickAChew - and isn't it disturbing that our knee-jerk reaction to a statement from the President of the USA, erstwhile "Leader of the Free World", is that it's a lie?

Spandauer · 19/09/2026 09:03

Catching up this morning!

Thanks to @Justsaynonow link earlier, I can now add 'Haligonian' to my lexicon. (Presumably our Yorkshire dwellers already know that!)

(Although autocarrot wanted to change it to Halitosis!

Yup. We know that. And the networks that Trump just banned know that... but I bet the US right wing media pretend they don't know that.

I think I understand it is an extension of an existing agreement, which Agent🍊is pretending he achieved all by himself, against the odds?

I just checked GB news. They make no mention of the old deals still in place. But CNBC do. They even have a link to a doc listing the agreements. No foil hat needed.

Re foil hats.... I need a new one for all these "Royals" threads on the go. It's all SOROS apparently.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 19/09/2026 09:49

In that Heather Cox Richardson post (thank you, @CaveMum), I was particularly interested in this:

"In a marked change from usual political divisions, in contests across the country Republican leaders have endorsed Democrats. Megan Cartwright of Newsweek reported that in Texas, more than twenty current and former Republican officials, as well as other party leaders, have endorsed Democrat James Talarico for the U.S. Senate over Republican state attorney general Ken Paxton. One of those endorsing Talarico is Lionel Sosa, who advised President George W. Bush’s campaign.
Republican former senator Jeff Flake of Arizona had endorsed Georgia Democratic senator Jon Ossoff for reelection.
In Kansas, former two-time Republican governor Bill Graves has endorsed Democrat Adam Hamilton for U.S. Senate over sitting Republican senator Roger Marshall.
In Montana, a former chair of the Republican National Committee, Marc Racicot, has endorsed Democratic U.S. House of Representatives candidate Sam Forstag.
In Florida, Democratic candidate for governor David Jolly, who was once a Republican member of Congress, has picked up support from a group called “Republicans for Jolly.” The group includes a man who ran for the Republican nomination to run against Jolly."

Am I right to be heartened by the above, or is it all just dust in the wind?

Spandauer · 19/09/2026 10:20

There does seem to be more than just 'dust in the wind' with regards to the midterms but after the 2024 election results its so difficult to allow any hope in.

If Repugs retain both houses 🍊💩 will be insufferable and unstoppable. If they lose one (or both 🤞🏻) his malignant behaviour will be off the scale. 2027/28 will be fucked either way but I'll take a Dem controlled Congress over the 1st option any day.

I do not understand economics, but I do have a small memory for history, and he could not have picked a worse example than bananas.

There was the banana wars. 1898-1934. Where the USA had a US company called United Fruits, and the USA intervened on their behalf to render Central American Governments basket cases.... as in... banana republic. It's where the term comes from. The USA destabilized nations to get bananas.

The Banana Wars (ourhistory.org.uk)

Central America and the Caribbean in that article. Because Brazil do not grow many.

Also, the biggest banana companies....

  • ChiquitaFyffes (Ireland)
  • Dole Food Company (United States)
  • Fresh Del Monte Produce (United States)
  • Grupo Noboa S.A. (Ecuador)

I won't source the article where I got that list. No need.

American. Chiquita used to be called United Fruit. They were bought/ merged with Fyffes.

Poverty and unstable governments in Central American nations/ The Caribbean ? Much of that is down to US policy, because bananas.

From memory, there is also an issue with disease. Production is moving to Asia because there is a fungus that destroys the Cavendish. And that is a clone pant, grown from cuttings.

For students of US history, who like a side order of whimsy, I cannot recommend this podcast series highly enough

https://totalusrankiumap.podbean.com/

When you hear the tales of each individual administration, you will suddenly realise why the US is the way it is. And you will lose a lot of respect for it.

It's especially fascinating as it charts how the various political factions have changed over time, and how from Nixon onwards, the GOP have traded on racism pure and simple to maintain power. You can't ignore it when it's laid out in a straight unbroken line from slavery.

AFAIK this is for real.
Reveille and Stand By Your Beds take on a whole new meaning.

NEWS: The Pentagon has announced mandatory low-testosterone screenings for male troops 30 and older, including screening for symptoms such as “reduced libido, loss of spontaneous morning erections, erectile dysfunction,” and other symptoms.

Edit @Spandauer

Spandauer · 19/09/2026 14:01

The judge asked the govt if the Kennedy Center is going bankrupt. You should've seen them backpedal

Why so fast? If it's broke, a court puts someone else in charge & they lose control of it.

As Eisen explains, an insolvent company can go to bankruptcy, but an insolvent non-profit foundation goes to receivership, meaning the court appoints a new fiduciary.

The exact opposite of what they wanted!

I did ask. But I got no answer.

Last post I saw on it had a Soros Foundation, the Columbian Government and Prince Harry - somehow connected - with a wink. I did not bother asking about that one. I just hit the "unwatch thread" button :-)

They are like snowballs.

Edit to add... they are very Trumpian. That works better then snowballs.
