He had a two-fer reason for dismissal - not only the Hegseth impeachment but

Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced Thursday they've secured commitments for the 218 signatures needed to force another vote the release of files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

But didn't they already do that ? And got ignored ?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 18/09/2026 18:49

I've just noticed this, from McGill Media yesterday.

"President Donald Trump made the remarks during a campaign rally in Gastonia, North Carolina, on September 16, 2026, while discussing his assessment of his own intelligence."

I think the mental gymnastics he'll have to do to remain a staunch loyalist and still throw Scrotus under the bus will be too much for him and his tiny brain will explode.

Tiny brain explosion will render him in line with many of the GOP. There's a few who are intelligent and inclusive, but they've been pushed to the sidelines.

"It's not so much veal as veal substitute ...."

The thing is, he could have used an example of a product that can be produced in America. Economists might not have agreed with him, but he could have made an argument that there is a value to Americans earning money through work.

Instead he chose bananas....

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 18/09/2026 20:03

The bananas represent his own mental health, surely? As in, yes, we have no bananas?
ETA: As you can see, my grasp of economics is probably on a par with the top banana's.

To be fair, those news outlets will probably get more facts if they stay away from the White House and read reports from Canada, say.

Pod Save America a good listen today. Apparently farmers are apoplectic with Trump over the beef imports, added to the increase in cost of pretty much everything they need for their businesses, from tractor parts to fertiliser.

And of course the whole batshittery with the Kennedy Center (had to force myself to type that spelling!) is just, well, batshit!

Yup. The hope seems to be that whilst they will never vote Dem they may stay home for the Midterms.

He has. At least twice. Jim Acosta in 2018 and the AP in 2025. In both cases, legal action reversed his 'ban' based on the 1st Amendment.

He is getting loonier than a toon.

Well at least she may have learned to peek outside her echo chamber.

Edited

I do not understand economics, but I do have a small memory for history, and he could not have picked a worse example than bananas.

There was the banana wars. 1898-1934. Where the USA had a US company called United Fruits, and the USA intervened on their behalf to render Central American Governments basket cases.... as in... banana republic. It's where the term comes from. The USA destabilized nations to get bananas.

The Banana Wars (ourhistory.org.uk)

Central America and the Caribbean in that article. Because Brazil do not grow many.

Also, the biggest banana companies....

  • ChiquitaFyffes (Ireland)
  • Dole Food Company (United States)
  • Fresh Del Monte Produce (United States)
  • Grupo Noboa S.A. (Ecuador)

I won't source the article where I got that list. No need.

American. Chiquita used to be called United Fruit. They were bought/ merged with Fyffes.

Poverty and unstable governments in Central American nations/ The Caribbean ? Much of that is down to US policy, because bananas.

From memory, there is also an issue with disease. Production is moving to Asia because there is a fungus that destroys the Cavendish. And that is a clone pant, grown from cuttings.

The Banana Wars

Between 1898 and 1934, the United States engaged in a series of military interventions across Central America and the Caribbean known as the "Banana Wars."

HE GOT GREENLAND (HE claims)

Friday, September 18, 2026 9:18 PM

BREAKING NEWS: I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States! At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval. For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an "Infinite Life" Agreement, there is no end! We are very honored and proud of what has just taken place, and everything agreed to today will be cherished by the American People. We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many. We will work with the people of Greenland in its development and construction. This solution is a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies. We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future with respect to this large, and highly strategic, parcel of land. We will be very protective of it! This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Don’t forget that the BBC points out that the text of this “agreement” has not been released yet and nothing said so far differing anyway from what was agreed under the 1951 agreement.

Basically sounds like they’ve reprinted that on a new sheet of paper and changed the date on it!

CaveMum · 19/09/2026 07:29

Interesting read from Heather Cox Richardson this morning:

September 18, 2026 (Friday)

According to the American Automobile Association, diesel hit its highest recorded average price today at just above $6.44 per gallon. Diesel moves most of the consumer goods in the United States. Iran’s news agency reported today that a political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader said Iran would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until President Donald Trump and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu are removed from power.

As the conflict drags on with no coherent U.S. strategy, J.P. Morgan wrote yesterday, “We simply don’t know how to model the endgame.” Today Bloomberg reported that Saudi Arabia has told European refiners that they will not be receiving crude oil next month because of the shutdown of the East-West pipeline.

John Stoehr of The Editorial Board noted that the economic pain of this moment appears to be turning the media against Trump. He called attention to a hard-hitting piece in the Washington Post yesterday by Evan Halper, Rachel Chason, and Joyce Sohyun Lee warning of “huge jumps in the prices of gasoline and diesel…despite the Trump administration’s assurances.”

Trump responded to this shift in coverage this afternoon by announcing he is banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House. “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”

Trump’s anger at the press was probably fed today by three scoops.

Katie Bo Lillis and Zachary Cohen of CNN reported that this spring, the U.S. military set out to intercept a Chinese ship in the Middle East after an intelligence report said it was carrying components for a nuclear weapons program. After preparing to board the ship and sending up planes, officials realized that the report had been generated by AI. It was, a source told the reporters, “entirely false.” But it almost “started a war.”

Audrey Decker and Mark Satter of Politico reported that a shipment of F-35 fighter jet parts headed from Australia to the U.S. for repairs this summer was diverted to Hong Kong and disappeared, raising the possibility that China could have accessed key components of a highly classified U.S. weapons system.

Noah Robertson, Tara Copp, Warren P. Strobel, and Alex Horton of the Washington Post reported today that at least four more U.S. service members have died in the Middle East during the Iran war than the Department of Defense has announced. Three military contractors have also died since the combat began.

Trump’s fury at MS NOW might have come from Joe Scarborough, who noted on Morning Joe this morning that the latest Fox News poll showed that people trust Democrats more than Republicans to handle inflation and prices, by 15 points: 55% to 40%. In 2022, the advantage went to Republicans by 49% to 40%. Scarborough noted that Republicans are beginning to break from Trump.

All of these crises—the price crisis, caused by the oil crisis, caused by the Iran crisis, which has created a military crisis while the country is staggering under a deportation crisis—appear finally to be making some Republicans rethink their support for Trump and his policies.

On Monday, the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal reported that although Republican lawmakers are celebrating Trump’s tariffs in public, they are privately seeking exemptions from tariffs for manufacturers in their own state. “Tariffs for thee, exemptions for me,” the board wrote in a piece detailing the efforts of Senator Katie Britt of Alabama to stop tariffs in private while praising them in public.

The board explained that this lie shows “why blunderbuss trade wars are an economic mistake, along with how tariffs deepen the D.C. swamp.” Big companies can push their interests through a senator, it noted, but “who speaks for the little guy being walloped?”

In The New Republic, Greg Sargent reported that Trump’s super PAC, called MAGA Inc., has just begun to pour $100 million into the midterms. Sargent notes that they are spending that money in at least 17 districts that Trump won in 2024 by more than five points, including six districts he won by ten points or more. “If those are in danger, then a lot of other seats that are considered similarly safe for Republicans must be on the chopping block,” Larry Sabato, the founder of the nonpartisan political analysis and handicapping newsletter Sabato’s Crystal Ball, told Sargent.

Social media user Thomas Long suggested that their investments showed that Republicans had written off districts they had won in 2024 by five points or less and are trying to protect those in the 5- to 15-point range. Sargent agreed, posting: “Very possible that what I'm reporting here is the beginning of Rs starting to write off the Trump +3, +4, +5 districts and now starting to put money into the Trump +8, +9, +10, +12 districts to save those.”

In Kansas, prominent Trump ally Kris Kobach, who is running for reelection as the state’s attorney general, said he has no plans to ask Trump for an endorsement before the midterm elections. “I don’t think it’s necessary,” he said. Tim Carpenter of News From the States reports that while Trump carried Kansas by 57.1% of the vote in 2024, an August YouGov/Economist poll showed his job performance rating at –17 in the state.

In Florida, Republican Representative Maria Elvira Salazar, a former broadcast journalist and Trump supporter, spoke to the camera in an ad designed to look like she was challenging Trump directly. “Mr. President,” she said, “some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, fifty percent of the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal record.” Blaming his advisors rather than Trump, she warned: “Be careful what your advisors are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today…. I’m not talking about giving them amnesty,” she said. “I’m talking about giving them a dignified life in this promised land."

Like Salazar, other Republicans are advancing the idea that the problem with the Republican Party these days is a poisonous MAGA element from which they are trying to distance themselves. In Texas the need to create that distance became imperative when Bo French, the Republican candidate to head the Texas Railroad Commission that oversees the oil and gas industry, posted a racist attack on University of Texas football fans. His comments threaten to sour Hispanic voters even further on Republican candidates.

On Wednesday, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), who was primaried out of his seat by Trump-backed challenger Ken Paxton, posted a Wall Street Journal article titled: “Why I’m Voting for a Texas Democrat.” The op-ed was written by Karl Rove, Republican strategist and senior advisor to President George W. Bush. Rove wrote that the raw racism, religious bigotry, and sexism coming from French has driven him to support French’s Democratic opponent, Jon Rosenthal, for railroad commissioner.

Rove warned that the racists, "misogynists who worship hypermasculinity, conspiracy nuts seeking clicks for profit, and religious bigots who won’t differentiate between Muslim terrorists and Muslim American patriots…are diminishing the Republican Party.” “I’ll have no part of it,” he wrote. The Republican Party’s “stables need a cleaning,” he wrote. “This is a good place to start.”

In a second repost of the op-ed, Cornyn quoted: “The GOP’s stables need a cleaning. This is a good place to start.”

On Wednesday, right-wing political blogger Erick Erickson warned of a “group of white guys” who have “subtly inserted themselves into conservative institutions and church organizations,” and “even surround the Vice President of the United States.” “To varying degrees, they embrace white nationalism, antisemitism, and even Nazi sympathies,” he wrote. “Some of them believe the United States is at a tipping point, and they want to push it over the edge and rebuild it in their image.”

Erickson, too, called out Bo French. He also called out Charles Haywood, whose fortune has enabled him to shape boards and institutions, and right-wing broadcaster Nick Fuentes, who is radicalizing young men and urging them to infiltrate the Republican Party. Erickson warned that they are moving into extremism from different directions and that “the institutions of the right are absorbing both without resistance.”

Notably, though, neither Rove, nor Cornyn, nor Erickson called for French to drop out of the race.

In a marked change from usual political divisions, in contests across the country Republican leaders have endorsed Democrats. Megan Cartwright of Newsweek reported that in Texas, more than twenty current and former Republican officials, as well as other party leaders, have endorsed Democrat James Talarico for the U.S. Senate over Republican state attorney general Ken Paxton. One of those endorsing Talarico is Lionel Sosa, who advised President George W. Bush’s campaign.

Republican former senator Jeff Flake of Arizona had endorsed Georgia Democratic senator Jon Ossoff for reelection.

In Kansas, former two-time Republican governor Bill Graves has endorsed Democrat Adam Hamilton for U.S. Senate over sitting Republican senator Roger Marshall.

In Montana, a former chair of the Republican National Committee, Marc Racicot, has endorsed Democratic U.S. House of Representatives candidate Sam Forstag.

In Florida, Democratic candidate for governor David Jolly, who was once a Republican member of Congress, has picked up support from a group called “Republicans for Jolly.” The group includes a man who ran for the Republican nomination to run against Jolly.

In the All-In Podcast this week, Vice President J.D. Vance asked voters to “Give us another chance.” Perhaps recognizing that his framing was not one that would inspire confidence, he corrected himself: “Or give us another couple of years to continue to work on the amazing things that we've been doing for the past two years.”

The clip of him asking voters for another chance made the rounds in the media. When MS NOW’s Morning Joe showed it, the producers continued the clip to include his second point. He said: “And the second argument I'd make is, even if you don't agree with us on every issue, the other party is consumed by craziness.” At that point, the panel burst out laughing.

The clip continued: “They're consumed by people who want to steal everything, who want to give the country over to illegal aliens and criminals.”

Host Joe Scarborough, who was once a Republican member of Congress himself, apparently couldn’t stand it. “Who want to steal everything?” he echoed. “You work for a guy who has made more trades in the stock market than every member of the House and Senate combined. You work for a guy whose family has made billions and billions of dollars off of so-called public service. We could go down the list, but we don't have over three hours. It’s such a disingenuous thing for you to say.

“And make things better? JD,...you know, I know I wake up early, and sometimes I forget things, but I think it was you in ’24, promising us: ‘Oh, if you’ll only vote for Donald Trump, we'll end those forever wars. He won't take us to war with Iran, but Kamala will.’ Right? Promised that. No more wars, no more stupidity, no more inflation. The Ukraine war would end on the first day.”

Agent Orange is Talking healthcare again.

Remarks: Donald Trump Makes a Healthcare Announcement in the Oval Office - September 18, 2026

Lets see what he says, and join the chat.

"DONALD TRUMP 00:00:00-00:00:02 (2 SEC)
Hello, everybody."

Good start. Hi. Can we be quick please. I have a pan of tatties on the boil.

"So a few things maybe before we start. This is such an important meeting. We're talking about favored nations on prescription drugs, so it's very, very important. But we've, uh, had some amazing numbers just come out. Uh, child poverty falls to the lowest rate ever recorded, just put out. "

Child poverty lowest rate ever recorded ? When did you start recording it? Five minutes ago ? Do you have evidence Don ?

"......here's just a little quick chart on that. "

Oh. A chart. Nice colours too. Did Nats do that ? Walk us through it Don.

"As you can see, we're way up. The red is Biden administration and the two blues are rocket ships."

Why are you on about rocket ships ? Where did you park yours ? Tell us more about this chart.

"And the one that we're currently involved with, which is this second term, well, my third term, depending on the way you want to think about it, but the second term is going to be much higher than that. The red is Biden. They lost their shirts. Everybody lost their shirt. So they just came out. I thought I'd show them to you."

Ok. Charts are not your strong point. Moving on.

"You'd be happy to see. The other thing that just came out is that the first ever midterm RNC, if you look at the convention that we just had, just announced, we had over 100 million live stream views. Everyone is amazed because the NFL was our opponent on that one, and the NFL had 25 million. So we had for the convention 100 million live stream views, which is a record, and the NFL had 25 million."

Oh come on Don. Do you have a chart for that too ?

"That's from Breitbart. OK?"

Ah right. That will be a big fat NO then. Come on, get to the point.

" And thank you all for being here today as we take historic action to officially extend the benefits of our most favored nation agreements on prescription drug prices to state Medicaid programs all across the nation."

Yahoo. Put those daft charts away, and let's hear how this works.

"They're going into the states, and the states are going to look very good because we did something that nobody could have possibly done. I don't know if they tried. I think they didn't try because they didn't think it was possible. This will save states billions and billions of dollars per year on drugs, and allow them to invest those savings in providing better health care and higher quality service for the American people."

Okayyyy. Who or what is going into the States ? I hope not the same state you are in ? Jesus man, look at the state of you.

"I mean, this one thing alone should win us the midterms. It won't because the press doesn't report it, but this one thing alone, think of it. "

I am reporting it. Or do I not count. Both my readers will be super excited by this.... maybe... IF YOU TELL US WHAT IT FECKING IS ! Hey, why is CNN not here ? Why are Politico and MSNow stood out in the garden, by your helipad ?

"The biggest drug reduction prescription drug in history times maybe 10."

You just done this the other week. What's new now ?

"Nobody's ever seen anything like it."

Change the record. PLEASE.

"For decades, Americans paid the highest drug prices anywhere in the world by far. It wasn't even close. We were like a laughing stock. We were a whipping post. But now, under these agreements, we pay the lowest prices ever paid by our country. We pay the lowest prices in the world. So we went from paying the highest drug prices in the world to paying the lowest drug prices in the world."

So what has changed from 2 weeks ago ? That claim was debunked then. What has changed ?

"Can't say it any different than that, Bobby, right? What do you think? Not bad right."

Bobby ? Who the fuck is Bobby ?

"ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR. 00:03:56-00:03:58 (2 SEC)
It's pretty great, Mr. President."

Fuck. THAT Bobby.

"DONALD TRUMP 00:03:58-00:04:00 (1 SEC)
Oz, would you say."

"MEHMET OZ 00:04:00-00:04:01 (1 SEC)
100 percent."

Double fuck. Who sent in the clowns. We want to hear you Don... about this announcement.

"DONALD TRUMP 00:04:01-00:04:27 (26 SEC)
Something that nobody thought would even be possible. If they sell the drugs cheaper in Europe, as an example, they sell it cheaper in America. "

Erm. Lets me think about what that means.

"So if they're -- if a specific country is the lowest in the world, that's the price we pay. "

And, is this now happening ?

"Nobody thought it could happen. "

Could that be because it is not happening ? Come on. tell us.

"Many of these massive discounts are already available to all consumers on Trumprx.gov, ..."

Ach. It's a plug for your site. I gotta be careful. MN spam rules and all that.

"....today, we're launching the program that will provide the most favored nation discounts to state Medicaid programs, covering nearly 70 million Americans. What we're doing is we're providing those tremendous discounts in prices to the states directly."

Ah right. So you are expanding your crap drug website.

"Many left wing critics predicted that the states would not participate on our Most Favored Nation initiative, and some of the blue states tried not to, but they couldn't help it. When you're getting your drugs for 70, 80, 90 percent less, they all succumbed to the dollar. But I'm pleased to announce that we're launching this program with the participation of all 50 states, red and blue."

Is that not how the WWW works ?

"Every Democrat state, if you want to call it that, every Republican state, everyone came in, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, two places that the Democrats would love to see become states so they could pick up four Senators, etc. "

American Samoa ? Guam.... GREENLAND ?

"The Council of Economic Advisers estimates that the most favored nations deals that we're extending to states today will save Medicaid over $64 billion, and that's over a relatively short period of time."

Yeah. You need that money to pay for your missiles... and ballroom.

"It could be $100 billion"

Or $200 billion. Tomorrow you will say a $trillion..

"Your medical costs are going to be coming down. I will not get any credit for it, but when prescription drugs come down or drugs come down, your Medicaid and Medicare, everything becomes a lot less expensive. So perhaps you can think of me as you watch the prices come down to the floor. With our Republican majorities in Congress, we also passed the largest ever investment in rural -- I love rural health care."

And that's it ? Thanks Don. Well that was a waste of time. And my tatties are boiled to mush.

As Taylor Swift said "Karma's a bitch".

Petrol pumps vandalised with Trump ‘I did that’ stickers
Signs mocking US president also seen in supermarkets as rising cost of living becomes dominant issue before midterms

Stickers mocking Donald Trump and highlighting the consequences of his war on Iran have begun appearing on petrol pumps before the midterm elections in November.
The stickers, which resemble those used in a 2021 campaign that mocked Joe Biden, then US president, bear the phrase “I did that!” and are often placed to highlight high petrol prices.
That earlier version of the satirical trend, featuring a photograph of a buoyant Mr Biden drawing gun fingers, began appearing during a period of soaring inflation early in his presidency.
They have now come to bite Mr Trump, with new incarnations of the stickers seen in supermarkets and petrol stations in recent days and shared on social media.
Showing Mr Trump with a pointed finger, the stickers have been photographed in the meat aisles of a grocery store and next to fuel prices on forecourts. “These prices are tariff-ic!” reads one of the stickers on a petrol pump, a photo of which was shared on X.

A sticker mocking Mr Trump’s tariff policies on a petrol pump
The US president is facing continued scrutiny over rising fuel prices, having promised during his 2024 election campaign to slash gas bills to below $2 a gallon.
On the day Mr Trump entered the White House for a second time, the average price for a gallon of “regular” gas was $3.13, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
It has now risen to around $4.37 a gallon, data for Sept 16 show, spurred largely by the war in Iran.
The rising cost of living in the US is shaping up to become the dominant issue before the midterms, with the US-Iran war causing knock-on price rises across the economy.
The Federal Reserve, the US central bank, announced on Wednesday it was hiking interest rates for the first time in more than three years to curb stubborn inflation levels.
Mr Trump has cast rising US costs as a hangover from the Biden era, saying during the Republican midterms convention in Dallas, Texas, on Sept 13 that Democrats seizing on the issue were “so fake”.
“It was them that caused the affordability – to use their word – crisis, and I’m bringing the prices way down,” he said in an interview with CBS.

The Trump stickers have been placed in petrol forecourts and supermarkets and then shared on social media
Mr Trump has also embarked on a series of tariff increases since returning to office, in a move that has inadvertently seen the price of some American staples increase.
It includes ground beef, the key ingredient in the quintessential American food item: the hamburger. Prices rose to $7.16 per pound in August, up around 7.9 per cent compared to the same time last year, according to Bloomberg.
To combat soaring prices for consumers, the president announced plans on Aug 26 to import vast supplies of duty-free ground beef from countries including Brazil and Argentina.
Some “I did that!” parody stickers linking Mr Trump to high meat prices have previously gone viral, including a photograph of one attached to a $45.52 strip steak in August last year.

The stickers have also been used to blame the US president for high meat prices
Senior Republicans urged Mr Biden to heed the stickers’ message when they were used to mock the former US president.
Ted Cruz, a Republican state senator for Texas, said in 2022 that the then Democratic leader was responsible for surging fuel prices. “I’ll tell you what,” he said. “The little stickers on gas pumps all across the country illustrate the American people know exactly whose fault this is.”
