Well Hegseth's an alcoholic, isn't he?

So it's not surprising if he's long had an enabler who holds things together and sweeps up behind him. Sounds like she's now running things completely and he's become just the front man.

He rants and rambles about testosterone; she does the work.

If I remember rightly, Nancy Reagan did something similar with the demented Ronald towards the end of his second term, despite his Alzheimer's not being announced till 6 years after he left office.

Melania where are you?! 😂😉
(So many things to say on this one).

PerkingFaintly · 18/09/2026 09:21

Melania?

Nah, Natalie. It's one of the things she is for.

I remember during Trump's first term it was Ivanka who used to accompany him to official dinners and meetings, and who used to slide into the Oval Office during meetings to check he was doing OK.

It's why Ivanka had to be given an official government post as "Advisor to the President", because for her first 2 months in the White House she didn't have clearance for this stuff.

That was one of my points!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 18/09/2026 09:34

Presumably Melania doesn't dare to put a foot wrong with him in case he threatens to leave her out of his will? Mind you, the state his mind is in, he wouldn't get it legalised and she could easily contest it on the grounds of his dementia as witnessed by the whole of the sentient world apart from MAGA and the White House press corps.

Massie also laid articles of impeachment against Hegseth in the house. It's why they have all been sent home, To avoid voting on it.

Thomas Massie pushes surprise impeachment vote of Pete Hegseth

Rep. Thomas Massie just introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — hours before the House voted to block a Democratic push to impeach President Trump.

There's something very ironic about that though. On the surface ranting about testosterone and using the anti-DEI stuff to push the idea promoting women to positions of leadership or allowing them in the military at all leads to weakness. While behind the scenes a woman with no qualifications other than being his wife is allowed to bypass the system to have lots of power.

I think he bypassed the system too.

Having said that, the system of having a civilian in control of the military is designed to bypass military qualifications I suppose. But the Senate armed services committee is supposed to vet him to check is he is suitable for the role but he did sort of bypass that because they voted on Party lines. Vance having the casting vote. So effectively, if Trump had nominated a tadpole, it would have gotten through.

So yeah, by my logic, he bypassed the system too. And what a rotten system it is in many ways. A 50-50 vote and Vance as tie breaker.

Yes indeed. This has not escaped me.

It's arrant hypocrisy on the personal level by Hegseth.

It also gives the lie to his overarching model, wherein a military can only be effective if everyone in it matches his fantasy version of maleness.

Homogeneity isn't really great in a defence setting.

Or indeed any setting pitched against nature.

Yep. Which is pretty damned telling. Either Spkr Johnson knows that the motion will easily pass with many GOP 'defectors' and he doesn't want it going to the Senate for a full hearing or contrariwise that Scrotus is now so unpopular with many GOP voters that its defeat would lose the Party even more votes.

From what I read, the articles are pretty carefully drafted.

And there is precious little incentive for a potential Hegseth replacement to dismiss them either.

I wonder if Hegseth has a defence of "Trump told me to do it" lined up ? Just in case, you understand.

Don't know what question was asked but have a feeling that this wasn't the correct answer.

He had a two-fer reason for dismissal - not only the Hegseth impeachment but

Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced Thursday they've secured commitments for the 218 signatures needed to force another vote the release of files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

I think the mental gymnastics he'll have to do to remain a staunch loyalist and still throw Scrotus under the bus will be too much for him and his tiny brain will explode.
