BBC News at lunchtime ran an interview with a survivor who now goes to schools to speak to young people about 9/11. It was deeply moving, she lost over 60 colleagues that day, but still can’t forgive herself for not being able to attend all the funerals. She felt her work with young people and trying to make sure that she lived a good life might atone for that 💔

I'm glad they are now ringing a seventh bell for all those who died after the rescue and salvage in the toxic dust of the towers. I remember that almost all the search and rescue dogs involved in the recovery efforts died before their time from various cancers or direct ill-effects. So that a lot of the humans involved knew/know - as surely as most of the FDNY and PAPD officers trapped in the towers at the time - what was/is coming for them.

Th only person I knew who was in America and at risk that day (a member of our armed forces) was at the Pentagon. I don't suppose he feels particularly honoured by Trump's presence there today. I don't intend to ask him.

Actually who would want him at such a solemn occasion. It's bad enough that he'll be speaking at the Pentagon. I sincerely hope that most news outlets will decline to post his speech.

BIL was in a nearby building. He was supposed to be in a breakfast meeting at the top but one of the people he was meeting needed to be in his own office due to a project problem so they bought in breakfast there at the last minute. His clothes were full of ash when he got home and he now suffers from a very rare autoimmune disease. He often wonders whether there is any connection.

I’ve had an awful week at work (working away somewhere I despise at the best of times) and I’m not sure exactly what possessed me (some flavour of nihilism). Since the day itself and sitting on the floor, mouth open, I’ve never searched it but today I rewatched the original live 9/11 news coverage. From when the first tower impact was reported here. Four full hours of it. I remember the bit where I realised the world had changed, shortly after the second plane hit and the colour drained from GWB’s face.

When I saw this picture of Trump with MBS (Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia) in the oval office I could not help but think MBS was having a good laugh at all the fake gold leaf stuck on with gorilla glue. "Yeah mate, the gold in my palace is 22 ct"
