Who else is excited for Autumn!?

I'm so excited for Autumn, all the beautiful colours, the cool breezes, the food, the clothes. This roasting sticky summer has gone on for ever. I love Autumn so much.

Where I am I don't think autumn is going to arrive properly until October. I think maybe people forget the many bright days we have during autumn the way people seem to forget when the days get shorter and start threads about that.

Someone up the thread asked if people only eat soup during autumn. I don't, but there are some soups I only eat during autumn and winter. Butternut squash soup being one, along Scotch broth and the other heartier ones. I have a blue cheese, pear and toasted hazelnut salad that I only fancy in the autumn.

I'm looking forward to wearing soft socks and jumpers. Having the windows open any time of the day without letting heat and flies in. Seeing grass green again. The silhouette of bare trees against the dawn sky. Mist and fog. Going for a walk on a blustery day before the wind is bitingly cold. Hobbies that don't suit sweaty hands.

But most of all I'm looking forward to the price of portable air con units to go down, or even be in stock, so that I will be able to enjoy next summer rather than endure it.

I usually love autumn but for some reason I don’t want summer to end this year 😭

No. Some of us live where bright autumn days are quite rare. I live on the edge of the Pennines in reservoir country. It usually rains a lot where I live, which is why we have a lot of reservoirs.

Autumn days are mostly grey and damp here.

Chrisky · 30/08/2026 17:46

I can't wait for autumn so I can curl up with a book in my pj's while watching the rain fall knowing I'm indoors

FlorianTV · 30/08/2026 17:49

Me!!

The ber months are my favourite. I love the atmospheric shift in sept/oct when you can smell autumn. I love the cold, I love the rain and I love the dark nights. I love the crispy leaves! I’m at my happiest Sept-Dec.

RampantIvy · 30/08/2026 17:51

I have been curled up in our hotel bedroom watching torrential rain outside. It was so bad that the staff were bailing out the exit. It even set the fire alarm off.

I hope it is raining this hard at home and filling up the reservoirs.

Love love love autumn. From September right up to Christmas is the best time of year. Went to B&M and bought some lovely autumnal pumpkin shaped candles. Have already lit them and already indulged in hot chocolate

RhosynCymru · 30/08/2026 18:15

Cannot wait. Fed up being hot and my heat intolerance amd reverse sad this year is the worst it’s ever been. I love my more dignified autumn clothes as I hate summer clothing because it makes me look like a ship in full sail. At least with winter clothing I can attempt to hide my build and look more streamlined. I can also sleep better and concentrate, which I just can’t do when I feel suffocated. My mood just generally lifts.

iloveanearlynight · 30/08/2026 18:33

Excited about... Yes I love it. (You can't be excited FOR a season, only on behalf of another person or living creature!)

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 30/08/2026 18:33

Absolutely not. Hate the shorter days, the wet weather and the slow trudge to winter.

Banjas · 30/08/2026 18:35

I hate it. Dark and depressing and winter approaching. 😢

Myli1 · 30/08/2026 18:59

No, not at all. I’m missing the long sunny days and light nights already and I hate having to wear clothes. Autumn is just depressing knowing that winter is around the corner.

Chagalaga23 · 30/08/2026 19:01

No. I like it warm, sunny with long daylight hours

aintnothinbutagstring · 30/08/2026 19:18

I do have some nice scarfs that I look forward to wearing, and a nice coat and boots. But yeah grey skies, rain, mud, dark mornings - not much to look forward to there. Will miss my sandals. If you work in a school, two words to put you in a right hump all day - wet play.

I love it - I seem to have SAD the “wrong” way round! I feel miserable with heat and bright light, and great with cooler, crisp days. Always have. Can’t wait for the sticky, clammy heat to disappear 🍁🍂

I'm the same. Can't stand bright light all the time. I like spring and love autumn. Beginning of winter and summers ok but they seem to drag on forever.

Mcoco · 30/08/2026 20:03

No i love summer and know I am living in the wrong country 🙃

Cheesecake53 · 30/08/2026 20:07

MEEEE!!!!

I absolutely love Autumn! I wait all summer for Autumn and am so happy that it is almost here!

Sorry for all the people who do not like Autumn, you favourite seasons will come round again too!

catlover123456789 · 30/08/2026 20:07

Nope. The colours last about two weeks and then its just cold, rainy and dark for weeks and weeks, with the ridiculous hype of Christmas in the middle.
Humans need sunshine and warmth to function properly.
I am definitely a spring and summer person.

exiledfromcornwall · 30/08/2026 20:36

With you all the way. I love autumn, it's my favourite season. I live in a part of the country where the autumn colours are magical, I don't even need to leave the town where I live to enjoy them. I have hated every minute of this summer. According to my computer it is only 15 degrees now and I am still sweating pints.

FlipFlopVibe · 30/08/2026 21:05

Urgh, I’m the first to say those heat waves were too hot but not for a second am I looking forward to Autumn. The rain the last two days has done enough to remind me.

Dark mornings make me physically sick.
Commuting in the pitch black.
My days off feel about 2 minutes long.
Trying to find three layers to wear every day. Numb hands and feet.
Legging it from the car to avoid the monsoon. Wet dog walks.
Dirty hall floors.
Dirty carpets.
Can’t get the kids outside
Garden looks depressing
Spiders come inside to mate.
Heating the house
Many birthday and Christmas gifts to sort

Yes I do believe I have SAD, I start worrying about dark days from 21st June. In fact I start worrying about it nearly being 21st June in May.

Slinkybabe · 30/08/2026 21:20

No it's when the darkness descends and life becomes 1 big sad load of staying in and not seeing anyone. I bloody hate it.

Slinkybabe · 30/08/2026 21:21

Me too. This last couple of weeks have been terrible. September in August 😭

beigepaints · 30/08/2026 21:23

I like Autumn but I think people have almost a fetish for it.

It looks pretty autumnal already, dried grass and leaves already fallen off loads of trees. It was still 24 here today but I’m enjoying the colder nights.

beigepaints · 30/08/2026 21:35

RampantIvy · 30/08/2026 07:15

I like bright, crisp days in autumn and winter. Unfortunately they are as rare as hen's teeth where I live. The weather is usually damp and grey most of the year.

Where is this magical part of the UK where autumn days are usually bright and crisp?

I prefer warmer brighter weather, but I admit to struggling with the heat on a few occasions this year. We have had a fair amount of rain over the last week. Parts of Sheffield were under water on Thursday.

Edited

I’m in London & we do get some lovely bright & crisp days but they tend to be in Winter. ❄️

Definitely. I love autumn anyway but I'll be appreciating it a lot more after the awful summer we've had 😮
