Who else is excited for Autumn!?

I'm so excited for Autumn, all the beautiful colours, the cool breezes, the food, the clothes. This roasting sticky summer has gone on for ever. I love Autumn so much.

I love autumn despite shorter days. The colourful leaves, crispy mornings and evenings. So much easier to just throw on an oversized jumper rather than have to iron a t-shirt and a pair of linen trousers each time I want to look semi put together. Also, much easier to walk the dog in a pouring rain rather than a 30 degree heat! Bit random but is When Harry Met Sally on any if the streaming services?

spiderlight · 29/08/2026 20:57

I absolutely love Autumn - bring it on!!

SunnyFawn · 29/08/2026 21:01

Love every season ( January and February are a bit pants) and Autumn 🍂 is wonderful for me. Back to roast dinners on Sunday evenings - today I made a blackberry and apple crumble with fruit from the garden. We’ve made jam, I’m really pleased as over the summer we redecorated the living room and it is super cosy now. I’ve spent the rainy weekend deep cleaning the living room and kitchen - we have made the most of the summer but autumn’s also very welcome!

Just remembered another hidden joy of autumn.....the fact I no longer have to iron my t shirts coz they are underneath my jumpers, which also don't need ironing!

tobee · 29/08/2026 23:02

@JeanSimmonsi know you want it to be an appreciation thread and not a grump thread but I’m allowed to say what I like. Did you ever read all the bazillions of threads that were about people that were enjoying the summer and immediately got jumped on by the summer haters?

I don’t particularly relish extreme heat and don’t want it all year around. Part of my grump is you never get defined seasons here anymore in the U.K

Personally I think only a couple of days had “extreme heat” this summer. But I do believe we are being affected by climate change. Nepal being another example.

Love all your films by the way 😀

I hate ironing and never do it. Certainly not to t shirts. The lovely summer was great for hanging clothes out to dry. Crease free. 😉

No.
I live in Scotland, it's cold and glum and wet.

CherryBlossom321 · 29/08/2026 23:09

I love it - I seem to have SAD the “wrong” way round! I feel miserable with heat and bright light, and great with cooler, crisp days. Always have. Can’t wait for the sticky, clammy heat to disappear 🍁🍂

TheFormerMrsTruelove · 29/08/2026 23:32

It rained here for the first time in forever today and I was so happy I went and stood outside in it.

Big fans of autumn and winter in our house.

We had rain on and off for the past week or so, but we had a huge thunderstorm yesterday (or the day before?) and had that delicious smell of hot dry earth or something, it was heavenly.

I’ve thought for a long time I had reverse SAD too!

Dear god, I don’t know where you are in the UK but here in the south we have had five heatwaves! And plenty of other days and weeks (starting in May) with temps approaching those dizzy (literally) heights.
I went out for a long walk in the rain yesterday and could swear the cows were smiling 🤣.
The only saving grace for me is Mounjaro, which means I’ve been slightly less sweaty than in previous summers….
And yes, @JeanSimmons , I’m going to relish this autumn like never before!

I like bright, crisp days in autumn and winter. Unfortunately they are as rare as hen's teeth where I live. The weather is usually damp and grey most of the year.

Where is this magical part of the UK where autumn days are usually bright and crisp?

I prefer warmer brighter weather, but I admit to struggling with the heat on a few occasions this year. We have had a fair amount of rain over the last week. Parts of Sheffield were under water on Thursday.

HoraceCope · 30/08/2026 07:17

not me
i hate driving in the flooded roads
and hate the dark
and the wind - when driving.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/08/2026 09:24

God yes. HUGE tidy of the sitting room yesterday (I’d been sleeping in it for the summer as it’s cooler) and put the candles on for the first time. Put up new (old) curtains. Plugged in the heated throw.

was all so cosy and lovely watching the rain outside (the gardens and heath desperately need it) while being inside all snug.

I drank 6 cups of tea without overheating 🥵 was amazing

CadiFfan · 30/08/2026 10:17

Me!! Im putting out my autumn decor tomorrow night.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 30/08/2026 12:40

A) blimey. Some people just thrive on being negative don’t they?! 🍁🍂🥮🍁🍂🥮🍁🍂🥮🍁🍂🥮🍁🍂🥮 Is that pie/cake emoji a pumpkin pie I wonder? 🤔

B) @CoolestDogInTheWorld and @CadiFfan when you say decorate for autumn, what do you mean? What sort of things?

WintersFrog · 30/08/2026 13:02

I just really like feeling cool, and I like just being able to put more clothes on if I'm a bit chilly. I also feel able to enjoy activity without coming out in a big sweat. I think we're going to have to find a way to cope with more extreme heat going forward. I'm aiming to lose weight and get fitter among other thing. Being overweight when it's very hot is horrible ( I wasn't always so chubby so I've really noticed the impact)
So yeah @JeanSimmons count me in!!

QueenCamillaMW · 30/08/2026 13:04

I also prefer to feel a bit cold, I like the feel of a cool breeze on my skin and am often the only person not wearing a coat.

On the other hand, I don't like the feeling of the sun on my skin. I can just feel it burning.

feellikeanalien · 30/08/2026 13:15

Although I do prefer summer I wouldn't mind autumn and winter so much if we could get a bit of blue sky. It's the endless dull damp grey which gets to me.

I do love autumn colours and I don't mind the cold but hardly ever seeing the sun is so miserable.

We had a torrential downpour. Loved every minute of it. Love autumn and winter. Can’t wait until I can wear a coat and boots. Sick of the sight of terrible legs in Tesco 🤮

I wore my beautiful green Seasalt raincoat yesterday - it was wonderful!
