Anyone else feeling sad about summer ending and autumn beginning?

Is anyone else sad that summer is ending? I’ve really embraced the sunny days this year, I find the summer mornings spur me on, and have explored the outdoors a lot with my children.
I’m feeling pretty sad now that summer is over and it’ll soon be dark mornings, back to school and all that jazz. Don’t get me wrong once I adapt I do love autumn and winter. But I hate letting go of summer.
Anyone else?

Oh no, that was a typo!

The funny thing is I didn’t even notice 😅

No, I love autumn and winter. I’ve really struggled with the heat this summer and am ecstatic that we’re moving to cooler weather and much needed rain.

Likewise. The heat this year has been unbearable, and I've hated seeing all the countryside and trees struggling so much round here.

RosieLeaLovesTea · 28/08/2026 23:03

Yes I am sad about saying goodbye to Summer. The hot weather has been great. We have enjoyed many happy hours out in the sun ☀️

SoThatwasSummer · 28/08/2026 23:03

No
After the summer we have had im very happy to have rain and dark and cold.

Whilst I try and prepare for next year if summer is worse !

2027hastobebetter · 28/08/2026 23:04

I have an underlying condition which most people find heat helps but cooler weather helps me, I can’t wait. The change in seasons really gets to me 😩 I want cold weather consistently, I remember last December we went shopping and stopped for a drink and sat outside a bar for a glass of wine- 16 degrees in December is so wrong!! We are uk based

SirChenjins · 28/08/2026 23:04

Yes - I feel really sad and quite despairing. The thought of the long dark nights and crap weather for months to come is awful. I hate living under electric lights and thick clothing, it's suffocating. I know parts of the UK have had hideously hot weather this summer but it's been a mild summer up here - and trying to keep my mood up from November to March is so tiring. Hate autumn and especially winter with a passion - just have to grin and bear it.

deepseaargyllfish · 28/08/2026 22:53

Yes, I’m devastated.

I feel as though I’m about to enter an extremely long dark tunnel, and it’s going to be a very long time before I see a chink of light at the end of it.

Do you live in Nunavut ?

Mistyloo22 · 28/08/2026 23:07

Yes, it’s been an amazing summer, I hate the dark mornings and evenings. I will miss sitting in the garden with a drink and eating meals outside. I’m also looking forward to cosy evenings with candles fairy lights and comfort food, and the TV is better in the Autumn!

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 28/08/2026 23:08

Yes i always feel sad at the end of the summer and this year is no different.

justasking111 · 28/08/2026 23:10

I shan't miss this summer. We live in a rural area the farmers and livestock have suffered terribly this summer and will continue to do so until next year.

They've had a terrible summer throughout Europe as well.

As for my garden that's knackered too. Once this heavy rain has passed there's a lot of remedial work to be done.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 28/08/2026 23:23

No, it’s lovely.
Next step is Strictly.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 28/08/2026 23:24

I love autumn and the Christmas build up and I'm looking forward to it. At times the heat this summer has been almost unbearable BUT I work in a school, so have had the past 6 weeks off and have very much enjoyed sitting in the garden reading.

One thing I noticed though, apart from during the hideous Weather Week From Hell (39° here) in July, the evenings have actually been quite chilly so we haven't sat outside late like we have in previous years.

Glitterbaby17 · 28/08/2026 23:29

I’m dreading it - have loved the sun and the light and the kids not being in school or having 101 sodding activities to go to…

Stinkybooks · 28/08/2026 23:40

No. Not even a tiny bit.
We've had 3+ months of sunshine and very hot days. Even when it wasnt very hot it was still hot. And no rain in months.
Finally at last we've had some rain, autumn is on its way. Im still in my shorts and t shirt but Im very much looking forward to getting out my colder weather clothes, being able to do my colder weather hobbies (knitting!)
Not looking forward to weeks/months of the house being cold/heating costs but I SO much prefer that to being hot and sweaty, not being able to sleep, feeling uncomfortable and lethargic all day every day.
Several days during the last few months Ive had to finish work early because I felt so ill with the heat. Im delighted thats over with.

Traceyatnumber32isaloudgobshite · 28/08/2026 23:44

Im feeling sad. I must be living in the wrong country because I absolutely despise winter.

The odd crisp bright cold day is tolerable but they are rare and the reality is we have 9 months of grey dark cold windy and wet ahead of us.

Its the very basic things like getting up for the loo in the night and tensing up with the cold.

Winter clothes are drab and dull and tbh I get it because why try and dress nice in winter. You'll need a thick cardigan or coat over whatever you wear and getting anywhere will involve wind and rain so everyone looks like a sack of shit when they arrive anywhere.

We have leaves on train lines, land slips, gales and floods to look forward to!! Oh goody....can't wait!!

crazystar · 28/08/2026 23:47

No it was too hot

ClaudettedeBeauvoir · 28/08/2026 23:48

Yes. I'm really sad that this summer is nearly over and the kids are going back to school. The summers you get with them in childhood are so few. Mine are all teens and I feel like the days just runaway.

durdledoris · 28/08/2026 23:53

I can handle the cold and wet, it's the dark l hate more and more each year

Sunseekers · 29/08/2026 00:28

JeanSimmons · 28/08/2026 22:14

Where do you live!? Almost everywhere has had a lot of heat.

Edited

Large areas of NW Scotland have not had any sort of heatwave!

dustabsorber · 29/08/2026 00:32

Best summer ever. I hate the darkness.

SheWillBeTheDeathOfMe · 29/08/2026 00:39

Yes I am gutted. I adore hot weather. I was saying today that this winter should be better than the one a couple of years ago when there was no summer and it was grey and rainy for what felt like 2 years. But I think I will feel worse as I will know what we are missing now. I can manage up to February then my positivity gives out once Halloween and Christmas and New year are over and it’s still dark and cold and wet.

Elbowpatch · 29/08/2026 00:43

I have always felt sad about the end of summer. This year is no different. Autumn is dreadful.

I love warm weather. I will be putting off autumn as long as possible by spending September somewhere warm.

HRHCurmudgeon · 29/08/2026 05:24

I hate:

jumpers
rain and drizzle (it’ll be like living in a cloud)
frizzy hair
umbrellas
tights
’hot choccy’
being blown about by wind
heavy coats
Christmas
getting up in the dark
coming home in the dark
layers of clothes
wrapping presents
closed windows
snow (after the first hour)
boots
stodgy food

Give me t-shirts, Birkenstocks, shorts, mini skirts and dresses, sunshine, heat, tanned skin, garden doors open all day, no coats, linen, salad and hours and hours of daylight and heat.

Epoisses · 29/08/2026 06:38

No! I love September/October...schools are back, we travel more and the weather suits me. I shall be ordering a few pairs of winter boots today and planning holidays for next year. Always considered September the start of a new year, not January.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 29/08/2026 06:50

No. I want some rain and weather that’s pleasant most of the time. Summer at 35 degrees is over rated. I’m looking forward to a green lawn.
