Which organisations if any have you decided to never use again for one reason or another?

I'll start with British Gas, awful company, very expensive and customer service is non existent..there is a reason they have lost a few million customers of recent years, close second place is EE for similar reasoning.

I donate to Macmillian instead.

I work in palliative care and have seen the misuse of MacMillan funds. I think most charities wouldn’t stand up in close scrutiny!

anewlifeinthesun · 27/08/2026 07:42

Sports Direct and any company that they own. They turn any business they buyout into sports direct and basically cheapen the brand (Fraser, Flannels etc)

I refuse to buy any tat from any of their shops. Utter crap

Albert Bartlet allows/ sponsors fox hunting on its land 😡

Good - I’ll buy my spuds from there in future! (I keep ducks fwiw and prefer their heads still attached).

For me, Lush - because of the unmitigated shite they spew about trans rights despite the fact that 99% of their customers are women. Plus, all that cheap stink makes my head hurt).

JennyChawleigh · 27/08/2026 07:50

Air BnB for hollowing out towns and cities making it near impossible for locals to buy or rent, and inflicting misery on long term residents living next to Air BnB properties.

Tesco - have boycotted for years, ever since the Shirley Porter scandal.
Amazon for all the reasons listed in previous posts.

Yes, I applied for a (paid) job at Macmillan after recovering from cancer, but they decided my health was too dicey to risk… (20 years later and I still appear to be alive).

MyDeftDuck · 27/08/2026 07:52

Can’t say any specific company but I won’t donate to any charity until I’ve researched their status on the Charity Commission website and looked at their mission statement and finances, only then will I consider making a donation. This might appear mean spirited but I’d far sooner support a local charity than a huge national enterprise with a CEO earning triple figures!

probablyabadidea · 27/08/2026 07:53

Tiger Sheds - worst customer service I've ever experienced. Garden shed never turned up despite an eight-week lead time, and still fighting to get my money back.

It's certainly not got any better, they are awful, not sure how they have any customers

I was going to say British Gas too! Over 20 years ago our meter broke and we got a bill for over £700 for gas in mid-summer! I called them but they refused to send anyone to check it as the house was less than 10 years old, so they said the meter was fine! However, we have a friend who is a gas plumber, so he called in after work and isolated the gas supply. Even with the gas off, the meter kept turning, so it was clearly faulty (this was days before smartphones, so we couldn’t send them a video).
I called British Gas again and they agreed to swap the meter, but only if we paid to do so and “if” they discovered a fault, they would refund us the cost. We had no option but to agree. Anyway, the meter was faulty, but they refused to cancel the full bill. I can’t remember what we had to pay, but it was way too much for summer gas! Needless to say, we will never use British Gas again! 😡

Anglian. Took four months for them to fix the roller garage doors they installed wrongly. About ten visits from people who had no idea what they were doing, one who dropped the new door and had to leave before they even attempted to fix it, one who never turned up and the whole palaver went on for so long it was excruciating!

Bikergran · 27/08/2026 08:03

Does that still exist? I used to use it, stopped buying it when they put Diana's signature on the box. Wrote to the company at the time and said the thought of associating food with a rotting corpse was gross. Never bought it since.

ElBandito · 27/08/2026 08:04

Pret - sesame seed scandle
Virgin - customer service nightmare.
RSPCA - they've lost their way, would rather donate to small, local animal rescues.

Cambridge University for employing a fraud like Jason Arday and their appalling treatment of his PhD students when they complained about his lack of supervision.

I agree. This fraudulent oaf had no right to be in charge and to mark the work of PhD students.

ThaneOfGlamis · 27/08/2026 08:05

Cafe Nero. Once gave me a decaf when I asked for an ordinary coffee. That's not the sort of behaviour you can forgive.

Mildmanneredmum · 27/08/2026 08:06

Inn Collection - a chain local to the North East, I think. They take over gorgeous independent pubs with lovely food and turn them into burger joints.

Lush. Disgusting misogynist company. I loved their predecessor, Cosmetics to Go, when I was a teenager - they were an ethical brand with fantastic affordable products. Now they're expensive, treat their employees appallingly and hate women. So it's a no from me.

I used to adore lush-it was a rare treat

Then they did the breast blinders for girls

Nope,im outta here-i never went back

I'm told (but didn't see) that they had their staff naked

Fuck that-thats a sexual assault waiting to happen-ive been assaulted at work 10 times in 11 years and im fully clothed!

British gas-my grandfather died and my mother had to deal with them

First he was in credit,so a rebate was due

Then he was in debt and they hounded her for over 1k and refused to believe he'd died

Then they admitted he was in credit and was dead but refused to give her it/sort it out

Rinse and repeat depending on who you spoke to

All this time, they kept sending bills and threatening bailiffs (even though someone else had moved in by this point)

After 18 months of this,my father wrote them a letter-i don't know what he wrote in it but it was sorted within a week

I mean I hated the old cunt but that's the last thing you need just after you've lost someone

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 27/08/2026 08:09

Nestle

localnotail · 27/08/2026 08:09

Shein, Pretty Little Thing and all the online shops selling disposable "fashion" items - I dont know who buys stuff from there, its shit quality and looks awful even on their models.

Could you include a quote from the PP you're responding to?

I'm completely baffled by your reply! but am curious to know what product this is

localnotail · 27/08/2026 08:13

AirBnB and Uber - never used them and never will. Hated the idea of them from the off, and still hate it. This type of business model turns everything into shit show of low quality justified by low price.

Winter42 · 27/08/2026 08:13

Just Eat - they wont (or really try hard not to) give a refund if your order is incorrect or does not turn up. They just put credit on your account.

BT - we had a phone line that worked intermittently. Every time they sent an engineer out they charged us if it happened to be working when they arrived.

Virgin Media - deliberately confusing bills which make it near impossible to work out if you are paying the correct amount.

Any shop that makes me feel like I am a suspected shoplifter when Inam trying to give them money.

nomoremsniceperson · 27/08/2026 07:04

Oh god, that's shocking.
I give money to Greenpeace, plus one-off donations to various orgs like the Red Cross or charities for refugees or hunger/drought crises, and I'm wondering if it's worth it. Someone recently told me that Greenpeace is compromised by major donations from big fashion brands and this has made me lose a lot of faith in them.

Yes it's awful. I also forgot to add that most get either a cleaner and a driver provided or an allowance for both. This is not what people's donations are meant to be spent on.

goingtotown · 27/08/2026 08:17

Costa & Starbucks because their toilets are disgusting.

They also pay expenses to the rich celebrities who are associated with them - see Beckham, private flights and UNICEF!

Virgin media. Awful company. Mislead and lie to customers, and then make it really difficult to leave.

Agreed.
As a victim of Virgin Media continually buggering up our footpath and road over the past three years and having experienced the nightmare of making them come back and repair the damage I would never pay this company a penny.
Truly awful.
