Do you have a TV license?

It seems to me more and more people just don't bother. I do have one, though don't ever watch 'live' TV, I do watch iplayer and other catch up. I watch Netflix mostly.

Do you bother? If so, how old are you? (Im 49 and remember the adverts!)

I would personally get rid of the licence and fund it through taxation as it's important for the country itself to have strong public service broadcasting, the BBC is a key asset for the UK, and as a important counterbalance to all the plutocratic commercial mass media ownership by the likes of Musk and their ilk.

So you'd just get BBC1 and BBC2, say. Then there could be another tier where you pay for streaming on iPlayer etc.

So why?

Nope not for years. Almost never watch any live tv. Would be happy to pay monthly or to view specific programmes or events eg sport of interest if the option existed but the bbc are so behind the times it’s their own fault really.

Yes we do, it’s very cheap considering how much bbc and live tv we watch (and don’t begrudge it). The Traitors is epic 😂

I don't watch much live TV, but I do watch BBC, ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 programmes, either streamed or recorded. I also watch stuff on U&Drama and Netflix.

I don't discriminate by TV channel. I just watch something that catches my eye regardless of what channel it is on - mainly detective dramas.

I have a TV licence and always have. I don’t watch anything live often but watch recorded/downloaded programmes from BBC.
Everyday is a school day though as I didn’t realise you needed a TV licence to watch non-BBC channels live.

Yes because we watch tv s it put on the tv and see what’s on, you also need one to stream the news from the BBC website

I am 69 and have a licence. I rarely watch anything live but use the BBC I player a lot . I hate adverts and American style news. I also listen to Radio2 every day. I think the licence is good value.

No. I do not watch live TV and do not watch iplayer. I have subscriptions for prime, Netflix etc due to preferring content on those platforms. People are able to keep up with the news without depending upon live BBC broadcasts. Also watch YouTube - more deepdives available on there.

No because I don’t meet the criteria for needing one. I haven’t and will not inform them of the fact just as I won’t be informing the DVLA I don’t need a HGV license.

Yes. We almost never watch live TV- only Bake Off really when that’s on. We do watch The Traitors but not live because it’s on too late on school nights for DC. DS and I watch University Challenge and Dragons Den when they’re on. That’s about it nowadays.

I'm 45 and I've never had one. I do watch iplayer from time to time on my phone so legally should but hey, I don't.

Yes. I’m 64. My son (23) has one too and he doesn’t own a TV but watches the odd iPlayer program on his computer though I’d say 95% of what he watches is Netflix etc.

I 'bother' because I do watch BBC programmes sometimes. Mostly I watch things I've recorded from the many Freeview channels. There is plenty to choose from. I think the licence fee is reasonable and can't understand why some people pay far more for other subscriptions.

But that's the reason why the licence fee isn't lower. If everybody paid who should, it would be much cheaper.

I can't help but feel it would be lower if they stopped sending so many threatening letters to people. Even those like myself who have declared they do not need a licence. Apparently they know better and still insist on sending me multiple letters a year.

nope and haven't since I left home! we used to have netflix, crunchyroll, nowtv, apple TV and YouTube premium but now we cut back to just YouTube premium because it was getting ridiculous. I'm 34.

We use DVDs and DH's private server for everything else. I've paid everyone enough money and I've no interest in any BBC output that isn't already on DVD.

You cant understand why people may have diffrent viewing habits to you

Yes, and I’m happy to pay for it. We watch a certain amount of BBC TV, mostly the documentaries (recently C Packham’s Evolution) plus Iplayer. The licence fee also funds radio, dh in particular listens to a lot of R4, plus there are all the podcasts about all sorts.

When living abroad we were very grateful for the World Service, which we still listen to now and then.

Those letters are the bane of my life. Thankfully, I’ve never opened the door to the TV licence people though. I’ve heard how forceful and intimidating they can be!

Half a million people have stopped getting one in the last year. I find the BBC very patronising and politically biased (left) and I just can't be bothered propping them up to lecture me whilst getting basic journalism wrong anymore.

BBC Verify, a woke activist unit within the BBC set up to label conservative perspectives "misinformation", has had to retract more pieces than normal BBC since its inception. Utterly farcical.

TBH I don't really notice that in the dramas and documentaries that I watch.

I don't understand the beef that so many people have with one particular channel. I see a programme that I want to watch/record/stream but don't decide not to watch it because it is on a particular channel.

I watch certain programmes, not certain channels. It just happens that some of the programmes I enjoy happen to be BBC programmes.

I'm 49 and have a TV licence even though I never watch live TV. In all honesty I only ever watch a bit of STV and Amazon Prime for movies.
