What did your holiday cost?

I’m planning for next summer already and interested in how much other people’s holidays cost to see what I can afford! I’ll go first

Can't beat Trailfinders they always manage to book lovely hotels & for far less than if I faffed about booking it all myself. We did California last year. We drove San fran to San Diego, 3 weeks beautiful hotels not including spending at £6k . 3 weeks Canada next year booked Toronto to St Johns Newfoundland, all in around £6k they really are great.

I thought they were great. I am a great believer in DIY bookings and I'm pretty good at finding deals, but for this holiday I just wanted to shift that load.
It was so worth it just for the transfers. It was super efficient and I didn't have to worry about getting from a to b - there was someone there to meet us and stick us in an air conditioned van!
I also appreciated not being hassled about booking. I spent a quite while discussing the whole thing on the first visit, then went back to the shop to make changes after my eldest decided he wasn't coming, and both times there was no hard sell. Nor was there any upsell. I didn't want tours - just hotels, flights and transfers. And they are fine with that. Just 'You're on the system. Give us a call if you're happy to book but be aware of airline prices changing.' So that's what I did!

All I can say is that our experience was very different from yours. My husband and I travelled extensively in Egypt 20 years ago and did experience some pushy sellers etc back then, but this time, there was nothing that could not be dealt with by a firm ‘No thank you’.

We were based mainly on the Red Sea coast in a resort but took a trip to Luxor with a local driver as our guide. The staff in the hotels were unfailingly courteous and helpful.

My son needed help with a medical situation whilst we were away, which meant dealing with local clinics, taxi drivers etc and again, no problems just kindness and good service.

I think that it is natural to an extent that people living in relative poverty in cities see British tourists as wealthy and tout for their custom.

I’m sorry that you had a disappointing time but yes, our recent trip was truly amazing.

I hated Egypt too, my friend had her 15 year old daughter with her on one trip to Sharm , and she asked a shopkeeper how much something was and said no thankyou that’s too much & he told her she was a fk’ing bitch and that he was going to rape her daughter .

Unusual for us, two weeks beach side West coast Barbados, two weeks tall ship cruise Barbados to Panama via ABC Islands and Columbia finishing with a week in Panama old town.

Self catering Airbnb’s when on land but most evening meals out. Not much alcohol.

Good budget for clothes shopping, coffees, every excursion on the cruise.

10 day car hire in Barbados £18,000 for two people.

Later in the year a week in Northumberland for around £400 in a campervan self catering.

Gorgeous area I hadn’t been to before.
