What did your holiday cost?

I’m planning for next summer already and interested in how much other people’s holidays cost to see what I can afford! I’ll go first

Canada East coast 2 weeks 4 people (2 adults 2 older kids) Flights, Accommodation (mid range hotels apartments and resorts 4 locations) and Car hire 6.5k we are still here but am reckoning on spending being about 1.5/2k we do a big holiday like this every 2 years and then do a cheaper Eurocamp type on the other year. My top tip for northerners trying to save money is go late August and fly from Scotland when their schools are back..suppose that also applies to Scots in June!

Scarborough last April, 5 nights, me and 8 year old. Dog. £470.

Puerto Mogan and the interior is also lovely. I didn't like the bit to the east of the Maspalomas dunes when I walked there but I always research carefully to avoid staying in the English breakfast type places.

But I'm not sure how looking at other people's costs helps with what you can afford OP as there's so many variables in location, time of year, how good a deal you get, how you book, what standard of accommodation etc.

People on here always seem to spend huge amounts of money, or claim the deal of the century that seem impossible to find any time I look.

About £6,800 including all travel, accommodation, excursions and food/spending money. Flying premium economy, 11 nights in three different locations in South Korea and then 4 nights in Hong Kong. Two adults.

I disagree, have some great inspo already. For instance, I thought Canada would be out of reach but doesn’t seem so!

Approx £1250 per person for 2 weeks Greek island self catering and then another £800 ish each on top for food and excursions. We didn’t scrimp but equally didn’t go mad with food either , ate dinner out every night but mainly ate breakfast in the room and bought snacks at supermarket

Me and DS2 went to Thailand for a fortnight this year - it was a special one as normally we do short haul. Was just under £5k for the booking including naice flights/hotels/transfers and UK travel to and from the airports. We spent about another £1300 on day trips and tours/transport whilst there/food.
I could have done it cheaper but I wanted something as stress free for me as possible whilst doing a few location changes, so I used trailfinders which went like clockwork

I spent £1300 per person for a 5* hotel with private pool on a Greek island. Another £1k for spending money but it truly was a little piece of luxury, well worth it.

Fuertventura (Canary Islands)
2 adults and 3 children
14 nights self catering (2 bed apartment with pool and sea views and return flights package deal booked in May 2025) = £4.5k
Total spends = £2,100. We ate out 11/14 nights but made breakfast and lunch oursleves. This figure includes all shopping, a few day trips, return taxis to beach every other day and taxis too and from the airport. I totted it all up in Excel so know the figure is accurate.

Was the first time we'd been able to afford it. Next year will be a UK holiday though and we'll save for a 2028 abroad holiday.

Five nights in Crete, DH and I and 2 adult DC.

Three nights 2 Bedroom AirBNB, 2 nights all inclusive. Flights, car hire, eating out and admission tickets / parking - £3500.

Long weekend in Riga (4 nights), just DH and I. AirBNB, flights, buses and trains and all eating / drinking out - £1,900. We did have a tasting menu and matching wine one night which was €200. Never done it before!

It was after GCSEs so early July.
We did Gatwick-> Bangkok-> Chiang Rai-> Chiang Mai -> Koh Samui -> Heathrow (got the train to and from the airports)

We visited many (many) temples, many many many markets, plus umpteen 7/11s. Shopping malls - the biggest I've ever seen - including one that was just 6 floors of second hand stuff. Climbed a mountain, fed elephants, kayaked, snorkelled, paddleboarded, walked for bloody miles, took the BTS, a billion grabs, private cars. One tuktuk ride, ferries, longtail boats, speedboats and jeeps. one bus ride for about a minute. I'm not sure why! I managed a dip in the pool. Also just the once😂Cat cafes. Waterfalls. Beaches. Lots and lots of food. Honesty I was knackered when I got home!

2 adults 3kids camping in France for 15 days taking ferry and our own tents

£2400 altogether. We looked hard for campsites that had pools etc included in the initial costs

1 week on a P&O cruise, travel to southhampton and 1 nights stay in a hotel the night before. Including what we spent on excursions/spending whilst off the ship and buying one of the paid restaurant options, the total for 2 adults was £2200. Bargain!!! And I got to see the fjords.

Rhodes, 2 adults 2 children (4yo, 1.5yo), 10 nights 4* AI, £2060 including private transfers.

£1000 Center Parcs break
£14,000 Orlando and Caribbean cruise.
£1000 hot tub break in Cornwall.

That’s all in inc spending money. Family of 4, only spending about £8000 next year (AI holiday in August).

I haven't been on a holiday in years but if I were to go I would probably pick Japan or South Korea

Japan at Easter. 2 adults for 14 nights.
Direct economy flights.
Mostly 4 star hotels (with a couple of nights 3 and 5 star).
All spends included. (Trains, food, attractions, car hire, baseball tickets, sumo tickets, souvenirs).

We did a week in Majorca adults only hotel, half board in school holidays. Package was 950 each plus 400 spending money and Kennels £150. Paid more for local airport, 10 mins away and worth IT

Eastern Med cruise All inclusive & drinks package & a balcony cabin, 7 nights & 3nights 4* Hotel afterwards. Flights & transfers 2x adults in May, £4200 ish plus a few souvenirs & lunches out couple of trips & Ubers Dinner & a couple drinks each 3 nights after the cruise. £800. So £5k all in.

This year we went to Crete for 5 nights AI in May for 1 adult and 2 children which was £1600

We are off to Disneyland in October for 4 nights in a Disney hotel and including flights it cost around £2000 and expecting to so spend around £1000

Next year we’ve booked a royal carribean cruise in May for 7 days costing £3600 and doing 5 nights in Gran Canaria AI in July which has cost just over £2000

Can't beat Trailfinders they always manage to book lovely hotels & for far less than if I faffed about booking it all myself. We did California last year. We drove San fran to San Diego, 3 weeks beautiful hotels not including spending at £6k . 3 weeks Canada next year booked Toronto to St Johns Newfoundland, all in around £6k they really are great.

We had 7 nights in Vienna for 2 adults and 2 children - flights and fairly modest hotel (two interconnecting bedrooms) were £2300, then we spent about another £1200 while there (meals, entrance fees, tours, etc). We had a lovely time. We are not a "fly and flop" family, so it suited us well.
