Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

I’ll say it. No it’s not.

Stop listening to the racist crap from Reform, Raise the Flag and the bloke down the pub. The hate that’s so casually thrown around is what’s causing the majority of problems.

So they couldn’t afford the average £15 for monthly dentistry in uk or the cost of a UK filling but can regularly afford to fly to Turkey and pay for flights and hotels on top of the price of a filling and check ups in Turkey. Ok I smell bullshit!

Where in the uk can you get dentist treatment for £15.
Because thats not what im being charged, and im on a plan, still costing me hundreds.

My plan was £9 a month, which included two check ups a year and two hygienist appointments a year. Any treatment could be put on a 0% plan.

The fact most people can’t access an NHS dentist is dire. Most people I know pay for private (which I think is appalling) given they don’t want to do this, but can’t get an NHS dentist so have no other choice. The amount of people who can’t access one and can’t afford to pay private fees is inexcusable. It’s the same with doctor’s appointments. It’s an awful postcode lottery and often those who are in most need are deprived of access to these fundamental services. It’s the sum of years of austerity at the expense of people. It feels rather Victorian compared to our European counterparts. Many are accepting of this as the norm and that is even more concerning.

And yet people keep on voting for the likes of Farage…

Dental plans are dependant on being accepted in the first place.
Many people would struggle to get that acceptance. There is nothing that says they have to offer it. And I have been refused. Why? My medical history. That affects teeth.
Not everyone can get one.

Yes (second paragraph) I was also told that by a health professional. NHS dentists either removing teeth rather than saving them or else the wait is so long that the patient has to seek emergency treatment elsewhere.

I was also given this advice and subsequently did go private. Obviously I can afford it and my NHS dentist seemed to be becoming an extraction centre which was a bit off putting.

British dentistry is in my opinion extortionate but it is private.

I have just had some work done, too expensive but hey! Now my teeth with impeccable oral hygiene will see me a number of years divided by the initial financial out lay and 6 monthly check ups.

I think there are a lot of problems and I do think sooner or later the massive debt situation the country is in is going to mean some kind of collapse.
There are no jobs for young people. AI is taking over a lot of jobs, older people are desperately trying to hang onto their jobs due to state pension age rising.
Nhs is shit at times but them in other ways is brilliant. My ds has waited for help last weekend for a huge abscess to the point where he was at risk of sepsis before proper help was given.
Global warming is a worry, food insecurity as well as huge numbers of people being made redundant. We can't cope with the numbers claiming benefits now let alone when masses start to be laid off and tax receipts fall.

nomoreforks · 23/08/2026 12:00

I think whoever is in government is going to have to make some very unpopular decisions (triple lock, reduce some benefits, less money for good stuff) so that in the long term the country has money to sustain some of the current good stuff. Whoever will make the decision will be very unpopular (Keir backed out of very small changes) and I certainly couldn't do it myself. Otherwise I can see us needing a bailout again from the IMF and most of the benefits will disappear overnight and cause a lot of hardship. It is rubbish.

No way will Burnham be up for making unpopular decisions.

Livelovebehappy · 23/08/2026 12:14

Nhs, which is core to the uK, is sinking fast and has been for the last 5 years at least. 8 hours waiting in A&E is now accepted as the norm. Dentist waiting list stretching to 2 years or more. GPs over subscribed and under staffed. Stop immigration, all immigration. Get people back to work. Invest money saved from this into the NHS.

I agree. He'll just tax the workers even more.

smallglassbottle · 23/08/2026 12:34

The country is dirty, ugly, not maintained, overcrowded and asset stripped. Nothing will happen though. British people don't have the stomach for it, we just moan and carry on. I think people are so used to grottiness and low standards here that they don't even notice things are rubbish. I suppose we're in a better state than Mogadishu.

frozendaisy · 23/08/2026 12:41

SunmerWater · 23/08/2026 11:23

I agree with some of this. I love the way those in the UK want to help cause a lot of the problems immigrants are fleeing from, to shut the door to them but feel entitlement for their kids to emigrate to wherever they choose . It’s a bit like Farage’s hypocrisy. Having shut the doors for the entire nation to live, study and work across 27 member states his kids have EU passports legally entitling them to retain the freedom to live, study, and work across the 27 member states of the European Union following Brexit.

Well yes, but our teens are going to be very well educated (funded by us so not running from student loans) when they hit another shore and enter legally and not expect another country to fund their housing or healthcare.

Or they can move to an EU country, with their dual passports and second language, also knowing they will have to learn any further languages, laws, driving regulations etc etc.

The implications being they should be assets to where they go to not hindrances.

Still doesn’t remove the fact that the reasons to move is to gain a higher standard of living from here. Which is what asylum seekers and immigrants do coming to our shores.

Our children moving abroad is going to cost us hundreds of thousands all in!

MNLurker1345 · 23/08/2026 12:51

And he has gone to the shops or run away?

The only way he would have left the house
until this is sorted would have been a one way “don’t come back” way, unless he was willing to sit down and sort it out.

What is more important at the shop than clearing your name if innocent.

To really put the Uk now in perspective, take a look at some documentaries etc about Britain int he '70's and prepare to shudder. Not to say there aren't challenges right now, but ask yourself, when would you rather be living?

Price rises - Cost of living, yes it's a fact but it's not simply the sudden result of Ukraine & the Hormuz crisis, the Uk has had a productivity probelm since post 2008, wages have remained too low, which is exacerbating the problem, but it is not a new phenomenon.

Heatwave after heatwave. Yes, these have ecological effects and can affect food prices etc, but they are nothing new. Yes, climate change is fueling the problem, but at the same time technology is trying to address the problem.

Threats from Russia - Again, nothing new, the Cold War lasted over 40 years and the threat's were just as high, if not higher.

El Nino', is a naturally occuring Phenomenon, so we've dealt with it since mankind started building civilisations, yes next years weather looks bad, but the process' for mitigating the problems, whilst probably a bit behind the curve are being developed.

Benefit Bill is out of control. This is not a new narrative. It's just successive governments have failed to address it. One way would be raising taxes, but as we have the productivity problem that's probably a non-starter as it would be political suicide.

People getting attacked - Been going on since one monkey said to the other 'Hey, I want what you've got,' nothing new.

The prevalence of 24 hour media, social media is amplifying any negativity, so prob best to ditch it or cut back.

Dentists - Yeah, well fuck knows....keep brushing your teeth and stay away from the sweets....

I'll probably be called a Pollyanna and I'm not saying there aren't problems but...it's civilisation...the only option is to move to Denmark really......course they do pay higher taxes.......

@avilsdedvocate Omg... stop...
Please look at some actual statistics or better go chat to some people

@Applepieandcustard555 Please take your head out the sand.

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-march-2026/how-many-people-claim-asylum-in-the-uk

There you go, @Applepieandcustard555

People like this don't read statistics. They read social media, half of which is bots or fake accounts based overseas, and right wing rags.

Firetreev · 23/08/2026 13:14

Dorisbonson · 23/08/2026 07:48

Maybe not asylum seekers but fewer than 20% of school age children in London are white British. It's less than 40% in Birmingham and other major cities. 48% of London's social housing is occupied by people born outside of the UK.

Diversity/Multi-cultural bias has led to a situation where working class white boys achieve the worst educational results of any ethnicity (by the way these boys are a minority now in parts of the UK).

Police guidelines now tell policemen to give greater weight to the evidence provided by someone from a minority background than a white background in order to equaliser judicial outcomes. Basically the police are told to treat people differently based on ethnicity and prioritize non white people. Google this, it's absolutely insane but happening now.

In the 1990s, we had a surplus of council housing in parts of the country, too many schools. We have added 30m to the population due to immigration and don't have the housing or infrastructure capacity cope.

Training our own people to work in the NHS totally removes any argument for vast numbers of foreign NHS workers.

The current government actually seem to have a grip on immigration for the first time since 1997.

Where the fuck do you get your facts from? We've added 30 million immigrants?? Please stop reading social media propaganda and learn some media literacy. It's embarrassing how easily you've been manipulated!!

ThisWiseRobin · 23/08/2026 13:28

Nutmuncher · 23/08/2026 10:45

People seem to be incredibly ok with it all though which is what makes me go hmmm. If folks were truly despairing then you would see some action being taken, yet nothing is seemingly being done to raise the point or ask why things are the way they are.

Feels like a large majority have simply accepted their fate and buckled up for the slide further down in living standards and aspirations.

The reason for this I think is that those who are struggling are working class.
No government has ever cared about the working classes.

For decades, left-wing and putatively right-wing governments have managed to disguise many of the downsides of mass migration by making sure the migrants are housed in working-class areas.

Its worked because if any migrants hang around the streets and start propositioning schoolgirls, you can expect to snooker the locals by calling them ‘racist’, which will make them scurry away, doffing their caps as they do so in the direction of their " moral and social superiors."

I'm personally looking forward to the distribution of undocumented men from third world shitholes into leafy Sussex etc
Only then will this country wake up to the madness of uncontrolled migration.

I wish they would hurrying up
We can't vote our way out of this mess, we can only collapse our way out.

Give it a rest. At the current rate, it would take 350 years for asylum seekers to be even 50% of the population. It would take 60 years for them to even be 1% of the population. If that’s what you mean by gradual, I guess you’d be correct.

ShetlandishMum · 23/08/2026 13:42

Besidemyselfwithworry · 23/08/2026 00:38

One of the school mums I know is a health visitor and she said that a huge number of people aren’t taking their kids to the dentist if they can’t go for free. I think it almost boarders on neglect and like she said the people she visits who moan they can’t afford to take this kids all have the latest play stations, brand new sofas, are going on holiday, potentially smoke, drink, go out for meals etc etc yet they can’t spare £20 for a kids check up every 6-12 months.

priorities

A lot of families don't have money for all these nice stuff. Simple as that.

Maths is not your strong point then! We are already well over 10%. People like you who live with their heads in the clouds and live in absolute denial, you should not give it a rest but rather wake up.

I think way longer than that … and it will only improve when all people using it actively pay something towards it.
it would also improve if it only employed those who can speak English proficiently and coherently.
