Price rises not coming down, cost of living gone mad, car crashes, heatwave after heat wave, wild fires.
NHS is falling, NHS dentist is like winning the loto, threats from russia.
Bills cost more than anything.
Benefit bill is out of control.
People getting attacked.

I may have missed a few things, but it feels like the UK is just building up to something big gonna kick off.
Im sure it won't but life is just crap right now.
Not to mention we are gonna get a hell of a winter with this EL nion predicted.

I feel like saying lets have a full war and end this crap then re start again( figure of speech), not living just surviving.
And the cost of being a parent now is unreal.

Rant over.

Yes. One will do.

What do you know of the world around you? Have you travelled afar? Are you aware of different cultures and ideologies which exist on our planet? Do you think we can all live side by side at peace with such ‘diverse’ ideals? I don’t.
its not just your ears you need, but your eyes.
Then you can ‘see’ and decide how we can make this a safer place for us all, especially our women.

No I don't @whatnextt. Quite the opposite, I am grateful the UK my children are growing up in is so much better than it was when I was a child.

Who do you think we should go to war with and how would it help?Confused

Well, that’s clearly a load of bollocks. I wonder if the same people who make these statements are also the people who berate the Labour governments for raising welfare benefits. Starmer removed the Conservative’s two child benefit cap. This meant that the families of the 4.5 million children living in poverty had more money. Almost 3/4 of those families have at least one working parent. These are the very people who you claim are being ignored by left wing governments, how does that work?

What has actually happened is, for decades governments of all colours have ignored “working class” people because they generally vote in lower numbers. This means they have been able to make poor people the enemy of the taxpayer. This has allowed them to target welfare, introduce “austerity” measures, cut services, which has made the life of low paid workers much harder, whilst the rich got richer, and also allowed them to retain a voter base and keep being elected. There is a reason pensioners have been triple locked financially for decades and nobody has dared change that. Look what happened with WFP, the suggestion that wealthy pensioners shouldn’t get handouts was the start of Starmer’s downfall. They don’t keep throwing money at pensioners whilst cutting all other welfare benefits because they care about whether wee Jeannie can keep her heating on, it’s to make sure she still votes for them.

Now what is happening is, the factions of that “putative” right wing who were very right wing, saw the collapse of conservatism and defected to the further right wing parties, picking up a whole load of voters, a significant number of whom have never voted before, by giving them a villain to blame for all the things they themselves had been blamed for.

The reality of the situation is that very wealthy individuals benefit from presenting a scapegoat to the general public. It means we don’t look so hard at them and where their money is coming from. They will work with governments and make themselves popular with the right wing, even becoming the “champion” of those people and brick by brick they build the narrative that leads to where we are today.

How can we be so sure about any of this? Go back through history and track the rise of far right wing politics. It always comes after a period of deep recession or depression where poor people are suffering. It’s easy to blame “others”. Right now it’s immigrants and disabled people who are taking all the lovely money. People are willing to swallow that lie because they aren’t part of that group. Twas ever thus.

I don’t think this addresses the issues arising from international laws, SM and the movement of people.

It’s not fabricated, if people said ok go for it you’d get Ceuta situations and worse. So now politicians are scrabbling to find ways to stop that, all sorts of methods are being used. Some are ok for Labour supporters, some not, but there’s not much in it in that parties know it can’t just be oh you’re imagining it if they want to survive politically.

Politicians in pretty much all western countries are under pressure to resolve the issue.

So, you don’t have an example?

emuloc · 23/08/2026 15:55

Wendyswonderpants · 23/08/2026 13:53

This is true. People need to ‘see’ what sort of ideologies are being brought across and regarded as ‘diverse’ . No, they have NO place in our society - NONE

I disagree. But there you go.

Wendyswonderpants · 23/08/2026 16:09

I do worry about the utter blindness and/or apathy of those on here to what seems to be the demise of a once lovely country. Perhaps they don’t care about that and prefer instead to quote stats and numbers which aren’t likely credible in a bid to appear intelligent.
it doesn’t work with me

I think those two things are adjacent but quite separate issues.

The situation in Ceuta came about because of a number of factors that coalesced and resulted in a mass wave (the vast majority of whom have been returned). Much of it was based on misinformation, but also some very specific political events. It isn’t the first time, we’ve seen it in Ceuta before, and in Greece, as well as other second destinations. It could, of course, happen at our border, but things would have to change massively politically between UK and France for that to happen. Of course, Brexit has made that all the more possible, but for now I don’t think it is something we can envisage happening any time soon.

You are absolutely right that the current system internationally is becoming less and less fit for purpose in the modern world. The number of political and climate related displacements has exploded since the 60s when the agreements were signed. We don’t have data for the 60s of everyone who was displaced at the time, but even taking into account what happened with Partition, and Palestine at that time (these were the biggest events) the numbers were in the low tens of millions. Now it sits at 117 million. For me the question isn’t about whether we should stop helping refugees, it is about how we help them. The biggest part of that is helping people safely to their home nations. That requires an international effort to end conflict and help nations improve conditions for their population. I don’t know if that’s possible, how it would be done. I know that poverty plays a huge part in that so stopping a handful of western billionaires from hoarding all the world’s wealth might be a good start, but the chances of that are slim to none.

So that leaves us with 117 million people at risk. What do we do with them? Do we turn our back on them? Decide we don’t have a responsibility to humans who don’t live in our country? I don’t think the British people want to do that. Look at the amount of money we raise for things like comic relief. If there was another famine on the scale of Ethiopia in the 80s, I’m sure we’d all put our hands in our pockets. They obviously can’t all come to the U.K, which is fine because a tiny percentage of them ever do. Do we have an international organisation deciding how many we can take, divvying up the number based on populations? That probably wouldn’t go down well. I think the most sensible solution would be for countries to set a number they think they can handle, in tandem with the overall immigration policies. In addition to this there should be a way for people to claim asylum from anywhere in the world. That way, we wouldn’t have to deal with “undocumented” individuals rocking up on a dinghy. We could work with charity organisations and companies to sponsor refugees, like we did with Ukrainians, so they can have a job to come to and be able to afford to support themselves. I’d support that.

Do you think the U.K. at large would be happy to do that for those coming here from the Middle East in the same way they did for the Ukrainians? If not, why not?

Missingmymeds · 23/08/2026 16:27

I think it's a case of I'm alright jack ..
So everything is fine ....untill it's in your backyard
Plus ..take for example my pil ...
If everyone was in a boat on the sea ...theirs would be huge cruise ship
Whilst we are in a rowing boat with a hole in
So both saling the choppy sea ...but totally different experiences

it is not my job to open your eyes; use all your senses and you will know what is right. I do not hide behind numbers and statistics as they do not show reality. I do not accept your numbers you quote and in a free society you are entitled to believe what you want. Your problem is that you rely on so called recognised sources and ... actually what is the point to discuss. We are clearly in opposite corners and you will always only see what you want to see.

I see you had my post removed. Why would that be?

And yet you can’t give an example. You accuse me of being blind to something you can’t describe. Make that make sense.

Can you also explain how the office of national statistics isn’t credible?

In what way? It was a campaign to remind our service personnel not to rape women. Isn’t that at the very least quite similar?

@BoredZeldado you see any differences between here and say Afghanistan in terms of how women and girls are treated?

Also Sudan, Eritrea or Pakistan to widen it out a bit

I agree with this economically, albeit the last “bust” was 20 years ago and the boom is taking its time to appear, I’m sure it will turn up.

Politically I’m less convinced in our future.

Sundayflamingo · 23/08/2026 16:56

I look back to 2012 and there was a positive air around. A couple of years later the stoking of division seemed to ramp up and then it went off the scale with Brexit. Austerity kicked in deeper and deeper, then the pandemic hit which exposed how much the country was hanging on by a thread. Huge levels of corruption whether it was established PPE companies unable to get a look in, behaviour of water companies, what the covid inquiry exposed, Epstein’s circle - nothing happens. There are always some nutcases in power around the world (throughout history), who cause mayhem whilst lining their own pockets. The thresholds to access support are high. People with higher incomes are feeling the pinch too. The gap between rich and poor is widening more and so much is broken. What happened to all the money from all the cutbacks - be it funding uni fees or having a library?! We know there are a significant number of children and teachers with long covid, but tell them to go to school with covid - why not treat it like other illnesses that cause less devastation - even if the country doesn’t care about the health of children - do it just to save money.

BoredZelda - I have been following your arguments on this for some time now and I am worried that you fail to grasp the position. The pamphlets are issued by the UK Government to the boat refugees / migrants or asylum seekers (whatever fits the statistics you keep talking about). If you equate this with other leaflets or pamphlets we issued to British soldiers whilst abroad the natural inference would be that the boats paddling across to our sunny shores are also filled by an army or rather an invasion. (of course most of the occupants are male)
You also missing the point that this is not about groups of whatever other categories we wish to create. It is the lack of integration by these groups et al. The mere fact that we issue a pamphlet is an indictment that we have lost the argument. It is a sad state of affairs that we have to state what should be fairly obvious to decent law abiding citizens. Whilst it is not a prerogative of a certain groups et al to be labelled as solely responsible for all attacks on women (there are plenty of indigenous culprits) it is the underlying culture that is an issue. You can quote numbers and statistics all day and throw accusations of what my political persuasions may or may not be (or indeed you can hide behind your alleged migrant status) you also know nothing of me, my heritage or indeed my religion. Your attempt to label me is indicative of an ignorance that hides behind loud accusations to intimidate. I express my views and concern to what I see in modern Britain for which I do not need to have statistics issued by a Government (or rather Governments) that have let it all happen without considering what a large section of society things but is frighten to express for fear of people like you. Numbers can be manipulated to fit your argument and if you rely on numbers you have to be prepared to set a limit of what is acceptable and what is not. Is it 1%, 5% or 20% or whatever percentage that is acceptable. Be prepared to be challenged when that percentage is breached and not support what all Governments have done in the past; when the numbers no longer support your argument just change the definition. That reminds of a book - Winston Smith's job was exactly that to change definitions and other facts to fit the situation in hand.
