Aw thanks for asking @FuzzyPuffling ....I feel like that is the million dollar question! I've lost all perspective on how ill I actually am. I am buzzy and shaky and hot still (is it ME or menopause ..I have no idea ).

I have just packed... So in ill advised and bloody minded fashion I will probably get in the car and drive 220 miles shortly 🙈🙈

I just can't feel ok about not seeing my Mum when I go back to work and won't be able to see her until Christmas at least and I already haven't seen her since April.

I am just sitting and relaxing a bit....slow and steady and all that.

How's things your end? X

I'm ok thank you.

You drive safe. Sing along to the radio, take breaks, Godspeed!

TodayIsabetterone · 26/08/2026 11:26

Ahh take it steady @MewithME Totally understand you wanting to see your mum. Lots of breaks and rest once you're there.

Same old, same old here. Not terribly exciting… Still very drowsy with new meds which isn’t much fun as unable to do much other than rest but better than pain levels of last weekend at least.

Had a shower, going to read outside for a bit with a coffee and see if I can stay awake as have my MIL popping in shortly!

Todays weather report from the South- Sunny and A pleasant 22°c here!

Have an okay day everyone. Hope someone else’s day is more interesting than mine 😬

martha79 · 26/08/2026 11:26

Take it easy @MewithME - lots of breaks!

It's disgustingly grey and humid here. Due thunderstorms soon, so I popped out up the short but steep hill to the supermarket for a few bits before they start. Felt a bit less wobbly than usual on that trip so I'm taking that as a small win.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/08/2026 11:46

Morning all.
Pleasant day so far. Sunny spells with a breeze 20⁰c.
@MewithME go steady & as above take as many breaks as you need. Have a lovely time.

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/08/2026 12:05

@MewithME it sounds like you have been between the devil and the deep blue sea on this. You were obviously feeling sad at maybe not going. Hope you have a lovely trip!

Please update on the grape situation fuzzy I have been imagining you treading away 😉

Ha ha! The grapes are all the property of the vineyard. I only picked them and handed them over. I think they've all been pressed through a machine now ( no feet required) and i might buy a bottle or two in a couple of years time, then I can say " I picked those!".

Glad things are a bit easier with the shoulder!

It's actually 23° here and quite sunny. I have had such a busy week with visitors and talking (which wears me out most of all) I needed yesterday to rest. My stomach has been in knots for days it's one of my stress reactions.

Anyway DGS had a great interview/audition and has got a place at college which is wonderful. DD1 has fought hard for him since primary school and is so relieved he will find his niche at last.

It has been really humbling to see how some kids struggle with the system.

DH is about a million years old today, I found all the presents I'd hidden around the house and he seems pretty pleased. All books! He's already got every gadget and tool known to man 😁

Brilliant, a lot better than the Pick your Own fruit places when the kids eat it all before it gets weighed!

TodayIsabetterone · 26/08/2026 14:16

@TeaAndStrumpets Oh I’m so delighted to hear DGS got his place. That’s excellent news and I hope he enjoys it. You must all be feeling relieved to know what the next stage will be.

Happy birthday to Mr Tea and glad he appreciated his gifts. It’s very hard to know what to buy for men who have everything they want! My DH is notoriously hard to buy for. 🙄

Yes! This was definitely a volunteering opportunity rather than a pick your own!

@TeaAndStrumpets lovely news for dgs!

Thanks, such a relief all round!

It really is hard to find birthday things but this year I did well. Annoyingly he can never think of a thing for MY birthday so I just fill in an Amazon wish list 😂

@TeaAndStrumpets lovely news for dgs!

Thank you! We are so pleased he is optimistic about life now. He has been struggling with his diabetes and has been very anxious about everything.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/08/2026 15:01

My DH has a birthday coming up and I have NO IDEA what to get for him. Not clothes, books or gadgets.

martha79 · 26/08/2026 15:16

@TeaAndStrumpets great news about DGS, I'm so glad. And happy birthday Mr Strumpets.

My dad has a big birthday coming up and I'm really stuck as to what to get - usually I'd do an 'experience' instead but I still owe him an outing to a concert/gig from last birthday that I've not been able to manage yet.

@FuzzyPuffling the grape picking sounds fun, I've always fancied doing fruit or olive picking but I suspect I'm romanticising the idea in my head 😂I visited a Yorkshire vineyard a few years ago and they said the picking days were always very popular and oversubscribed with volunteers.

The thunderstorms haven't materialised here but I wish they would - it's very stuffy and headachy.

How annoying. Maybe get him something you would like instead!

It's difficult to buy for some people, I know, but in a couple of years your wine will be a thoughtful gift!

It is difficult when you need to be fit and well to help him enjoy the gift. Can you remember the best ever thing you gave him, and find something similar?

Probably have to be books - he always says I pick the best books for him!

There you have it! And maybe something to snack on or drink for a cosy evening.

TodayIsabetterone · 26/08/2026 19:04

My DH is a tricky one to buy for too. The kids and I now tend to do nice edibles, fancy tea or coffee or something garden related. He has a new shed just for garden tools which he keeps very organised! So the last few years he’s asked for attachments or replacement tools which has made life easier.
I also got him a coffee subscription that he appreciated from a fancy coffee grinders. He also likes nice cheese so DS found a cheese hamper last year that he appreciated. Not sure if any of that helps but I’ve bought DS a couple of subscriptions as gifts too. A music publication he liked and an annual local cinema one. Any hobbies you could find a magazine for that he might like @martha79

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/08/2026 19:47

DH's birthday treat is a journey to collect some bookshelves I bought on eBay! While he's out I've had a little Dolly Parton festival on YouTube 🙄

JewelleryCat · 26/08/2026 19:59

I bet the Dolly Parton festival was lovely @TodayIsabetterone

There will be no one else like her. She was amazing, especially with her Imagination Library and everything she gave to charity
