I've cleaned the bathroom as far as I can, the dusty skirting boards can wait, but the toilet is sparkling. Usually DH does it but not to my standards. I have deployed my crevice brush! Brilliant for er...crevices.

I have a crevice brush too 😂 I saw it recommended on here ages ago. Maybe it was you 😂

Hi, I’m new to this thread. Just came across it whilst idly scrolling MN. I have a number of chronic conditions but the main one is rheumatoid arthritis.

Having an RA flare so feeling a bit down as we have a big family BBQ today, which has been in the diary for ages and I was so looking forward to. But it’s a bit of a car journey and a late night so have encouraged DH to go alone as I just can’t face it physically.

Hope I can join in with your chatter and news 😀.

Welcome, I love that user name!
Sorry to hear about the flare and you're missing the family BBQ. It can feel so unfair sometimes. I hope you can find something gentle to distract you today.

Thanks for the recommendation. My holy grail!

One of the best Christmas presents I ever gave DD2 and husband (at her request) was a small upholstery cleaner. Their elderly greyhound had very dodgy bowels and started to have little accidents overnight, always on the rug, never on a hard floor! This machine was great, think it was a Bissel.

Hope Dcat is OK now!

Oh she's fine - they're both a bit furbally especially in the summer when there's lots of loose fur to groom off (it might be better if they'd let me brush them but they're not keen).

Welcome @restinginpjs and sorry you have to miss the BBQ.

Friend has been, we had tea and cinnamon buns then a wander round the park but my legs feel very heavy today. I've come back to bed now she's headed off.

Welcome @restinginpjs do join!

restinginpjs · 23/08/2026 12:43

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
DH is saying he won’t go to the BBQ but that makes me feel worse as he has relatives visiting from abroad who he has been looking forward to seeing. I don’t want to be responsible for him missing them.

I know he’s saying it out of kindness and care for me but it doesn’t help me as it makes me feel guilty. I hate being ill!

Not sure but it is such a useful thing! Mind you I was cursing the toilet in the shower room for years and told DH recently how useful the crevice tool was round the hinges. He looked at me incredulously and said, but don't you know the seat just unclips?

Very warm welcome @restinginpjs sorry you are missing the barbeque but it would be rather chilly unless you live somewhere hot! It's a shame not to see people though. Hope you have a cosy restful day at home.

I've had chronic fatigue for years and my DH similarly feels bad leaving me at home. I can cope for a few days if need be, so the odd evening is nothing really. We do have a debrief when he comes home though. I don't exactly sit him down and shine a bright light in his face but I do expect him to tell me anything interesting 😂

I don't suppose you can hoover a cat!!

Apparently hoovering them and shaving all their fur off in the summer are both frowned upon 🤷😂

Duvet's back on here!

Welcome @restinginpjs sorry about the BBQ, my DH wouldn't go on his own either, but then he doesn't like BBQs due to a bad experience with an undercooked chicken breast, so he'd be glad of the excuse! Thinking about it, that was over 20 years ago, but the man doesn't forget.

I put an extra blanket on as well last night, and Ddog slept in his bed, not on the cool blanket, so its not just me that thought it was a bit chilly. DH declared it felt like crumble weather, so that is on the menu for tonight. He was a happy bunny when I told him that crumble topping is already in the freezer, and the apples in the fruit bowl will be absolutely fine to go underneath it.

I'm a bit off my nut on painkillers at the moment, the old Fibro is telling me that he is still here, and not being nice about it. I usually manage it with rest, warmth and distraction. But that didn't quite cut it today. I expect I overdid it a bit yesterday.

Have a nice rest of the weekend everyone. x

I've always been wary of chicken, we have always cooked it in the oven first for barbecues which rather defeats the object! I've got a meat thermometer now which takes away the worry. Yes it's definitely crumble weather.

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/08/2026 16:26

We put off our toddler visitor due to hand foot and mouth, now her mum has got noro virus so dodged a bullet there! Nursery diseases, inevitable I suppose. Probably wonderful for the immune system.

Swanhilde · 23/08/2026 08:08

Morning! Place marking for now but I am here and reading. We're away with my parents, which is lovely but exhausting. My mum does like to fill every silence 😆

Normality will be resumed once we are back home and the kettle will be refilled @MewithME

Have a peaceful Sunday all 💕

I have one of those too @Swanhilde .

I got a new coffee machine for my birthday so I fear I need a normal kettle based beverage lest I shall be over caffeinated in no time 😬😜

We have managed a lovely afternoon out for an hour in the sunshine and then a visit to farm shop and café. Was a lot of effort but a little treat with DS.

It has been a lovely summer despite my struggles. Happy I got to see my sibling at long last and we had a lovely holiday a couple of weeks ago.

Just need one last bit of energy so I can see my Mum. I can't feel ok about being back at work if I don't see her.

Feeling a bit sentimental today.

Morning all!

It was so cold last night I got up and put my dressing gown on. There will be an argument about getting out the winter duvet soon. It is perfect right now for DH but my feet started buzzing and tingling yesterday, so I'm in winter mode!

Glad you survived your visitors @MewithME . I've had one lot cancel due to a contagious toddler but nature abhors a vacuum so we've got a different lot today. DH is out this morning so I need to do a quick bathroom clean but the rest is a mess. I remember last time we moved the children were young so I always said to visitors "Scuse the mess we've just moved in" That excuse lasted for months!

I do love your style, Tea! 😆

I had great advice when we moved in here ten years ago. It was just before Xmas. My lovely camp friend told me to throw tinsel on top the boxes and style it out as Xmas decorations 🤭

Found you all! ( It took a while!).

I exhausted myself grape picking at a localish vineyard yesterday. Nice lunch as "payment" though, that's my sort of volunteering!

I've done a couple if loads of washing and had an afternoon nap.

It's horrible missing out but you're being sensible. Hope he can bring you a doggy bag?

Living the dream there! I have a vineyard near here. I always intended visiting but haven't made it in twenty years! I have bought their wine though. it's v nice.

Hello and welcome @restinginpjs .
I have a smorgasbord of auto immune conditions..they are unpredictable rubbish, aren't they? Hope your flare doesn't last too long.

I actually got out this afternoon!
Dh's friend had a birthday bbq. Stayed dry, mainly sunny & quite warm. Lovely afternoon 💕.

@restinginpjs welcome. They're a lovely bunch here. It's a friendly cosy corner 😊

Oioiqueen · 23/08/2026 20:00

@restinginpjs welcome to the little corner of Mumsnet where women don't tear each other apart and support each other through the crappy times of a chronic illness.

You'll find lots of talk about Ocado vans, animal antics and plenty of weather news from around the UK.

restinginpjs · 23/08/2026 20:05

I had a long sleep in the garden, sunny and warm here in the SE. I persuaded DH to go to BBQ so made myself a sandwich and after seeing the vineyard photo from @FuzzyPuffling am going to pour myself a glass of wine. Hope to feel better tomorrow (mainly my wrists are bloody painful today)

A sleep in the garden sounds lovely! Hope it's done you a bit of good.
