Made it here without any delays...was a bit hard work as it always is with crazy drivers but it was ok.

I'm shaky and tinnitus going still but that's pretty much how I felt before.. visible gadget says I've gone over budget but not too massively. Fingers crossed it haven't made myself much worse.

Mum seems pleased to see me though she looks tired and older all of a sudden. It's hard seeing her months apart. DS is being adorable and happy as usual and is full of hugs for us both. He is a sweet lad.

Birthday gifts get harder as you get older. Being a long term singleton, I have got good at finding things I like. I bought myself a coffee machine and some nice smellies, and DS made me a wonderful card.

Buying for men is harder I find. Food gifts are nice. I bought my Dad lots of real ale gifts. One year I got him personalised labelled beer with his picture on. He loved those! . I think we all just have too much stuff! Books are always good I agree. And quality socks. I love getting socks...how dull am I? 😆 DS enjoys fun T shirts. I actually find him fairly easy to buy... But it's definitely harder for grown men!

Been ridiculously muggy here today, cooled off now this evening though so is rather pleasant.

I'm really anxious again this evening. Think the storms forecast are triggering it as we are currently in a caravan. My stomach is doing somersaults making me feel even worse that maybe I'm ill or something. I don't think I am probably just a combination of tiredness and nervousness. Going to put on a couple of calming soundtracks before the blue screen has the opposite effect. Will keep my headphones near me and if the storm materialises I can use them again. The kids tend to sleep through storms (watch them now I've said that)

Fed up of feeling highly anxious and snappy this week. Hormones have a lot to answer for!

Yikes I've just read the forecast and we are down for thunderstorms for the next few days. Hopefully it will clear the air for you!

Birthday presents.
One year I bought dh a modern teapot, a funny tea cosy, & loose tea. I can't bear tea but he loves it so it was a definite "him" present.
He also likes a decent single malt whisky. Masters of Malt have a good range. DFil likes a certain rum & we usually arrange a delivery for his birthday.

I know you said no clothes @FuzzyPuffling but if he is tall/large I can highly recommend the fleece jacket from Espionage. My dh is 6ft 3in & built like a brick outhouse & this jacket fits him nicely. Nice & long enough to fully cover right down his back. Their 100% cotton polo shirts & t shirts are also excellent for the bigger chap so well worth a look. They go from 2XL to 8XL.

Does he like the garden? A nice rose bush or small tree? Garden bench/seat?

If he likes audio books or podcasts some nice wireless headphones?

Decent shaving kit with proper razor, blades, shaving brush & soap, plus favourite aftershave?

Thanks for the magazine idea @TodayIsabetterone - my dad likes watching Countryfile so I think he'll like their magazine. He was saying the other day he wants to spend less time on his phone so some 'analogue' things will help I reckon. Tea, chocolate, books, magazine subscription, and I've found a candle that smells like a greenhouse 😀

It's very grey here, I'm not sure if it's rained yet but once it starts it's meant to keep going until Monday. I've got a quiet-ish day at work today then I'm off for a week with not much planned - looking forward to not much stress, but I think I do also need to plan a few things in so I'm not completely bored and lonely.

@martha79 it sounds like you're sorted! We have a run of birthdays for the next few months so I'm trying to get ahead on those. Then Christmas!

Yes terribly grey here, we're expecting rain.

We've got a bed of Nigella (Love in a Mist) just outside the front window. It has totally gone to seed so I've been meaning to collect the seedheads and save them in a paper bag to take to the new house. I did this a few years ago for DD1 and she planted them near her patio. The last few years "my" Nigella has gone all white, but the ones DD planted have grown in different colours. Maybe it's the different soil? Anyway I looked out this morning and a squirrel was sitting there munching away at the seedheads, so I'd better save a few before he eats the lot!

@TeaAndStrumpets mine was the last family birthday for a while (apart from DS's cousin on his Dad's side who I still consider my nephew despite divorce. Exh doesn't get him anything so I always get him something from DS and me. He's another lovely teen. Gorgeous lad, bless him). Teens are easy enough. I'll bung him some money probably!

It's very grey up north today. Slept ok considering. Mum did get a new bed a little while ago and it's v comfortable. Did you get some sleep @Oioiqueen ? Bloody hormones...hope you feel calmer today.

I don't imagine we'll do anything much today. I should rest as much as I can after the drive up.

So glad you made it to your Mum's and enjoying the change of scene.

It's nice to have a cousin growing up. My DB's children never got on with my DC and I doubt they ever will. Funnily enough DD2 and her second cousin on the paternal side look like sisters and have always been good friends as adults. It's a lottery!

@MewithME take it easy and enjoy the downtime.

I had a restless night sleep but no storms thankfully, got quite a bit of rain but we dodged everything it seems. Sun is now trying to come out, it's going to be another warm day.

I made it out for a drizzly walk - as far as the local bakery which has been a target to get to since I moved in, and energy levels cooperated today. Got myself a sausage roll and a cake for lunch 😊Timed it well as it's now absolutely pouring!

The toilet handle has come loose, I nearly fell over pushing it down. The same thing happened a while ago when the estate agent used it. He was mortified poor man but we assured him DH would get it fixed pronto! He lashed it together with some bent wire and bought a complete new lever from B &Q. It's the B & Q part that's failed after six months. Really shoddy. DH (being a million years old as previously mentioned) tells me this part used to be made of brass but now it's plastic and tends to snap off. Surely this means the part isn't fit for purpose? B & Q must make a fortune if they need replacing so often.

Really chucking it down here. Indoor humidity 72% so the airing rack isn't doing much good. Maybe we should have one warm day per week so we could get our washing dry!

I have rain so let’s see how long it lasts. Not sure about the humidity inside or outside but I do feel warm and have needed the fan on today, off and on

Feeling better today, so I made a chicken curry, and did a spot of ironing. No one can tell me you can't live the high life with chronic illness! 😁I might venture out to the co-op tomorrow. Which means putting shoes on.

We had a huge thunderstorm, and a deluge of rain. According to DH anyway, I was having a short nap at the time, and the house could of fallen down before I woke up. He may be exaggerating. Although I do dimly remember Ddog getting on the bed, he would do that if there was thunder. Guarding mum only goes so far, if there is thunder or fireworks, mum has to protect him.

It gradually got rainier here until it was torrential, then calmed down again.

I've spent the evening doing an art therapy workshop on the theme of 'home' - sewing a house 'amulet' while thinking about what home means etc. I am not someone who sews, unless I need to fix a button, and my fingers hurt now, but I did really enjoy it. Here's my little house creation!
