@RedTagAlan - Summary in case you can't access - Florida is allowing religious exemptions for vaccinating children to attend school. Catholic schools in Florida require vaccinations. The (Catholic) attorney general is threatening to withdraw voucher funding if they don't allow exemptions. The Florida bishops have replied with a blistering reminder about the separation of church and state.

Re Natalie Harp. Did anyone else see the report about how the staff at Bedminster was trying to get rid of her, so didn't give her a bedroom, and she spent the summer sleeping in the women's locker room?

Deranged.

Whenever Melania disappears for a while, there's so much media speculation, but am I the only one who just assumes she's recovering from one of her many cosmetic procedures?

That was my thought about this particular disappearance.

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/6043480-trump-white-house-ballroom-supreme-court/

Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked a ruling that was set to halt construction on the White House ballroom later Friday, ruling that work can briefly continue as the Supreme Court mulls the Trump administration’s emergency plea to intervene.
It delays, for now, a lower court’s deadline to stop above-ground construction by the end of the day.
Roberts’ order gives the Supreme Court additional time to consider the administration’s emergency appeal but contained no explanation. It does not necessarily reflect the court’s thinking on the underlying legal issues.

From MSN
The Supreme Court will let Donald Trump continue building his White House ballroom and “military complex” while a legal challenge against the East Wing’s demolition and sprawling construction project continues.
Friday’s one-page decision from Chief Justice John Roberts gives the president permission to keep building what his administration is increasingly describing as a highly fortified military installation that is vital to the safety and security of the president.

Spandauer · Yesterday 19:31

Quelle surprise.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is allowing the White House to continue construction on President Donald Trump’s $400 million ballroom project for now.
Roberts signed a temporary order on Friday allowing work to continue while the court considers an emergency appeal from the Trump administration.
Lower courts had ordered a halt to the project, finding that it must have congressional approval. That ruling was set to take effect on Friday. Roberts signed the order because he oversees appeals of Washington-based cases.

I was watching Bloomberg and decided check who Roberts is.

https://ifp.nyu.edu/2026/news/the-chief-justice-and-his-wife-took-20-million-from-firms-he-rules-on-im-filing-for-his-disbarment-today/

The evidence is public and the statutes are unambiguous. He is breaking the law. Over sixteen years of federal financial disclosure forms, Chief Justice John Roberts mischaracterized more than twenty million dollars in household income from law firms appearing before the Supreme Court. He concealed his wife’s equity stake in her employer for three consecutive years. He failed to recuse from more than five hundred cases argued at the Supreme Court by law firms that had paid his household millions in commissions, and from at least three additional cases in which he personally held stock in a party. He architected the Court’s first ethics code and designed it to be unenforceable. This is a course of conduct stretching across two decades, connected by a single through-line: the belief that the rules that apply to every other federal judge do not apply to him.

Very much a man in Trump's image.

The Reaper Should Have Gone To SpecSavers - Trump Thread #168

Still trying to rewrite his truth.

The Center for American Progress (Cap) received a letter from Donald Trump’s lawyer threatening a $5bn lawsuit unless the liberal research organization retracts a report criticizing the effectiveness of the president’s National Guard rollout.
The report released 13 July argues that the National Guard deployment in Washington DC, Memphis and Los Angeles failed to have a measurable impact on crime in these cities despite an estimated cost of $1.7bn. The report looks at the falling rate of crime in cities without a National Guard intervention and concludes that they are not statistically different from the rate of decrease in those that had the intervention, noting that violent crime began falling well before Trump took office in 2025.
In response, Alejandro Brito, a personal lawyer of Trump, sent Cap a letter threatening suit if the center did not retract the research report, the New York Times reported Friday. Brito’s letter is a threat from Trump to sue the center in his personal capacity, and not on behalf of the federal government.
^^
The center released a statement on Friday standing by its report and castigating the threat as an attack on the public’s right to speak truth to power.
“Based on analysis of crime data, our report demonstrated facts about the National Guard deployments that are inconvenient to the Trump administration,” wrote Neera Tanden, Cap’s president and CEO. “This threatened lawsuit’s attack on facts and evidence is baseless. A fundamental protection of the First Amendment is to allow for the publication of facts and analysis that are contrary to the arguments and claims of any administration. A lawsuit is a transparent attempt to silence us. We will neither cower nor bend in the face of it.”...

For brevity I will use this quote rather then find a bit with Trump saying it is a military facility. He has said it.

It reminds me of how the "enemies" hide among civvies, human shields, military tunnels under hospitals and schools. Take your pick. We all know the dirty tricks they tell us the baddies do as the US bombs them.

Hang on mo. The US Government is a civilian government. They don't do these dirty tricks. They make sure anything military is separate and distinct from civvie stuff.

And here they are, building a military facility bang in the middle of DC.

This lack of a line between "Party advisors" and guv employees is something I see creeping into the UK and I don't like it.

To me they should be separate and funded as such. Political should be party funded. Civil admin, tax funded.
