Why hasn’t Brad Pitt been cancelled?

Why hasn’t Brad Pitt been cancelled? I don’t even really pay attention to celebrity news but I see occasional things that he’s divorced, alcoholic, was abusive to his wife and children, children don’t want his last name, etc. Especially because his ex (Angelina Jolie) seems to be idolised for her beauty and humanitarian work. It’s not like people don’t like her!

Is Brad Pitt just too handsome? What’s the deal?

I’m more surprised about Jackson and Leto than Pitt tbh.

But Jackson has $$$$ of investment behind his legacy.

  • NONE of Brad Pitt's many previous girlfriends, fiancees, or wives have ever said that he was abusive to them. His current girlfriend, who he's been with for some time now, doesn't seem to have any complaints either.

I couldn’t give a shit about Brad and AJ but this absolutely does not mean a man isn’t and won’t be abusive to a particular woman. My ex beat me black and blue and served 4 years in prison for it. The defence brought in witness statements from previous ex’s to try to prove good character but that didn’t matter. It didn’t mean he didn’t abuse me.

It’s also a pretty dangerous narrative to push because it will make women who are currently being abused question if that is really what’s happening to them, or if they deserve it if their partner has no history of abuse. Abusive behaviour starts somewhere.

Normally, there's an identifiable pattern with abusers. They're actually not very original and usually do the same thing to all the women they abuse. It does have to start somewhere, I know, but Pitt is older.

How awful that there were character witnesses for your ex. Abusers often do hide behind a mask. It's unusual for multiple exes to testify in defence of someone who was capable of doing what your ex did, which is not to say it couldn't happen. If he was never like that before, it does make me wonder if he got into drugs. Which is NO excuse. Just might indicate why he wasn't following the usual abuser playbook of doing the same to most, if not all, partners. OJ Simpson was very typical. His partners complained of abuse from him both before and after Nicole.

I'm so, so sorry that that happened to you. 💐 It doesn't sound like four years was long enough. 😢

Oh yuck

Cancelling people sounds pretty dystopian to me.

All this stuff trickles down eventually into everyday life and before long, we will be back to ordinary people being "shunned" for something that wasn't strong enough to go to court but was instead tried in the court of public opinion.

It's always men-usually white men-who are cancelled, so I wonder how we would feel if our husbands or sons were shunned for wolf whistling. Far fetched? Maybe. Maybe not.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, rapists and murderers are about to be set free after having served only a portion of their sentence and Asian men who took active roles in rape gangs are not shunned or cancelled by their communities.

Tis all bollocks.

For the same reason so very many abhorrent men aren’t cancelled:

rapist Cristiano Ronaldo
racist Mark Wahlberg
domestic abuser Chris Brown

They're men.

ETA: there’s a great IG account where the “presenter” starts with eg “All Britney did was have a breakdown after a lifetime of abuse and exploitation, and she got cancelled, but nothing’s worse than a woman not smiling…other than <rattles off lesser known gross ass male behaviour>

If you think AJ had the authority to decide whether to press charges or not against Pitt, you're wrong.

I think OJ Simpson's first wife said he never abused her and his other partners only came forward after his trial.

I hope he's burning in hell.

Hearsay? This wasn’t reported by Angelina Jolie, it was reported to the FBI by the fight staff. He was not charged because AJ felt it would be too stressful for the children.

Why was he reported to the FBI and not normal police. I can't read that report on the app.

She did say that, but other evidence seems to indicate that he did abuse her, such as a call to police about domestic violence. A former copper, Terry Schauer, said years later he attended a DV call at their home in the seventies. Terry said Marguerite decided not to press charges. But she did continue to deny it, even saying "There's no way I would ever have let that happen to me." Very victim-blamey.

I saw an interview with a surviving victim of Peter Sutcliffe. She had been in hospital with a terrible head injury, obviously looking as if she had been beaten up. She described how there was a stigma for being the victim of domestic violence back then, that people didn't want to go near her, and the nurses were not kind to her. (WTF??) And one woman in there asked what she did to provoke her husband. And she said that in the years following, she never talked about it, because being a victim of domestic violence was seen as something shameful. (Again, WTF?) So maybe it was the same in America back then, and that's why Marguerite publicly denied it.

ETA: I fervently hope he's burning in hell, too. I still cannot believe he got off.

Because it happened in the air, not in any state. So it was considered a matter for the feds.

AJ always struck me as a narcissist, not that BP's behaviour was ok by any stretch of the imagination - but I know how that messes with your head.

It reminds me of Johnny Depp and that crazy woman he was with who shat in his bed.

And there you've outed yourself.

Or, because the investigation found different things from AJ's accusations.

She can choose not to. Which it sounds like she did, to not drag her kids into it. It wasn’t only an option in the 90s. HTH.

You are 100% right, it's just tragic for Nicole that it kind of undermined the prosecution's case that Simpson was a serious and serial abuser. Thank God we live in different times. Not perfect, but better.

JustAnotherWhinger · Yesterday 10:37

I’ve always found it staggering that the flight crew allowed that flight to go on for hours.

Those kids should have been landed at the next nearest airport when the fight broke out and the authorities called from there.

Because AJ has always been a bit of a loon & has public rows with her family nonstop whereas Brad is a bloody good actor who’s given away zillions on the quiet to rebuild New Orleans.

The poor children - none of the domestic abuse was ever proven, and the police didn’t press charges after they investigated.

I can't remember the last time I read a gossip piece about AJ having 'public rows with her family' or even her dating life etc. Yes AJ was a bit wild in her twenties but weren't lots of people?

It seems a bit harsh to say people can never change or grow. I haven't seen headlines about anything other than her career/humanitarian work for decades.

While, yes, two sides to every story, if 5 out of your 6 kids publicly disavow you in some way, it doesn't look good.

Citadelica · 26/07/2026 23:22

Well its all hearsay.

Personally don't find AJ that admirable despite beauty or humanitarian work.

My STBX very similar to AJ. Give one face to the public and is really awful at home. In fact I think he is doing this to use it as part of his strategy to get away with more than is fair. He is a con artist. I suspect Brad and Angelina are both very similar.

RaininSummer · Yesterday 10:45

Don't follow celeb news so know nothing about this but cancelling people because of their private lives is a bit strong. Just don't watch him if you disapprove. Unless someone's 'crimes' mean they should work in certain areas then it's up to their employers whoever they may be.

glitterpaperchain · Yesterday 10:45

I don't think cancelling is really a thing. The amount of men who have been 'cancelled' yet their careers are doing just fine

PrizedPickledPopcorn · Yesterday 10:46

I’m so relieved that Jared Leto isn’t who I thought he was- I confused him with the guys in Supernatural and didn’t want to stop watching them!

latetothefisting · Yesterday 10:51

CrazyMidget · Yesterday 01:04

This is her statement. Doesn't mean it's not full of lies.

I dislike AJ, I think she's a psychopath, and I'm not convinced that Brad is a bad person.

Here's why:

AJ has been trouble her whole life. She was with an older boyfriend at 14 and was planning to go and live on the streets with him, so her mother let her move him in to keep her safe. Started her fast lifestyle early.

  • She used to do heroin. Heroin! That is some seriously fucked-up shit.
  • She was photographed snogging her brother.
  • She wore a vial of some bloke's blood around her neck.
  • She was on her third marriage while still in her thirties.
  • She helped herself to Jennifer Aniston's husband.
  • She helped herself to Laura Dern's fiance.

Some humanitarian. She's all about caring for other humans as long as you don't have the man she wants. Then you're toast. Amazing how she forgets the humanity of the women whose men she stole.

About Brad:

  • He was investigated by the FBI and not charged. AJ does not have the authority to decide whether he gets charged or not, so the above upthread about AJ's mercy is rubbish. Where children are involved, the authorities make the decision. Brad was later given 50/50 custody of the children, and AJ simply refused to comply. She complied only when threatened with prison by a judge. She is absolutely fucking awful.
  • NONE of Brad Pitt's many previous girlfriends, fiancees, or wives have ever said that he was abusive to them. His current girlfriend, who he's been with for some time now, doesn't seem to have any complaints either.

I'm not denying that Brad lost his temper on that plane. Children can push you to breaking point, and there are six of them, plus AJ refused to ever correct them or discipline them, according to reports from people who have worked for her. No regular bedtimes or anything boring and sensible like that. (By discipline I mean consequences, not physical discipline, before the nutters come for me.) Brad did want to being them up in the normal way, with regular bedtimes and meal times and being made to brush their teeth etc. He said on the plane, apparently, "Mummy is ruining this family!"

I think Brad was pushed to breaking point on that plane by the large amount of uncontrolled children and the fact that AJ would not work with him in instilling routines and consequences.

I do not think that losing his temper like that was OK. Of course it wasn't. But it seems to have been a one-off. AJ has never complained about him being like that at other times.

Since then, he has admitted that he had a problem with alcohol and weed, and he has got help. He has turned life around. But still there is no forgiveness for him, all these years later. One incident, and that's it, he virtually never sees his family again, despite Brad being given 50/50 access. AJ just ignored the court order. She carried out a sustained, textbook campaign of parental alienation, so bad that it's permanent, because of one incident, after which he sought treatment.

Brad Pitt has been around in Hollywood for a very long time, and no one he's ever dated, been engaged or married to, or has worked with, has had bad things to say about him. He made mistakes with drink and weed, and he certainly made a mistake when he lost it on that plane. But I see nothing to indicate that he should be cut off from his children forever more. If AJ was a good person and a good parent, she'd be facilitating their relationship with their dad, like Jennifer Garner does with Ben Affleck, despite his alcohol problems.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense can weigh all this up and see that it's more than likely that AJ, the complete weirdo, is behind all this, not Brad, who's never had problems with anyone but her.

She put her desire to have her children all to herself before their welfare, and as for Brad's pain at virtually never seeing his children again, well, who cares about his feelings, right?

She's a horrible, horrible person.

wow, the internalised misogyny is strong in this one. 'fast lifestyle' 🤣 are you typing from the 1920s?

'helped herself' to other women's partners? They aren't cakes at a buffet, they are fully grown men, who have agency over their own decisions! If anyone should be blamed it's them.

I don't care how badly behaved your children are, you don't hit and choke them, then throw beer over them while they are hiding under blankets from you.

4 of the 6 kids are over 18 now, AJ couldn't stop them if they wanted to form a relationship with BP as adults. Instead they've all refused to have anything to do with him. Even from a purely mercenary pov, you'd think that most people would want to take advantage of links to an extremely famous and rich parent, even if you privately didn't feel that fondly towards them. The fact they can't even pretend to be polite towards him for the occasional meet up but have instead publicly disavowed him is telling.

Even by your own argument - say AJ was a wild, argumentative, oversexed lunatic - the fact all of the kids STILL prefer to stay with her/on her 'side' suggests the alternative must be even worse!
