yesterday I saw that islamic bookshops run by the Muslim brotherhood (who are banned in Egypt and I think the UAE) are bringing “workers” over on skilled worker visas. The UAE has stopped government scholarships to British universities because they are worried about their young people being radicalised here!

how do we remain a safe and tolerant place for the many peaceful Muslims while still retaining our values and safety?

Exactly. I was about to post practically the same thing, saying if I'd been born in France I still wouldn't be French, even if I wanted to be. You can't become something you're not by going to live in a different place. If I moved to Manchester tomorrow, and lived there for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't be a Mancunian because I'm a born and bred Londoner, whose family have been here for generations. I can't suddenly become Northern.

It's a shame but it is too late. The demographic of the UK has changed forever and there's no going back. Hardly any immigration for 1000's of years yet in my lifetime, it has totally changed. I just wonder why it has been allowed. No-one voted for it or asked for it.

It is kind of ironic that the beliefs that underpin our culture are the ones leading to it's exploitation and destruction. I think the only thing that could stop it now would be a government that would end benefits to foreign nationals and TBF it does look like we might end up with such a a government in the near future if the polls are anything to go by. The problem is they will also want to bring in loads of policies that would be really disastrous but maybe it's worth it for the few policies that would help this issue. It would also result in other bad consequences like having large groups who not only aren't integrated or have basic skills to work but also made newly homeless, so crime would skyrocket in some areas. It's going to be really tricky whatever happens .

As with anything it all comes down to money. Having more people in the country makes rents and house prices much higher. Having a population of people who have access to benefits for life is a good source of income for landlords as it's unlikely to be withdrawn, a lot of these landlords are in parliament. Its always money, no matter what your question or mystery is the answer is money. Every. Time.

Three women have been stabbed in Paris.

A man reportedly launched the attack on passers-by with two kitchen knives in a square in the city’s north-west on Monday morning.

He was detained by an off-duty police officer and was taken into custody. As he was pinned down by officers, he said “it is Allah who ordered me”, Le Figaro reported.

But Laurent Nunez, the interior minister, said the suspect made a series of “incoherent statements” and appeared to downplay any terrorist motive, suggesting the attacker had mental health issues.

The women, aged 19, 24 and 36, are being treated in hospital for severe injuries but “their lives are not in danger”, Mr Nunez, the interior minister, said. One is believed to be pregnant.

The incident occurred between the brasserie Les Deux Coupoles and the Porte de Clichy tram stop.

Mr Nunez said they did not yet know the suspect’s identity, adding that “we need to be very careful with respect to the motives for this very violent attack."

They wouldn't have been able to have that conversation, she didn't understand what I said when I told her I didn't want the pamphlet she was trying to hand me. A lot of the children are translators for them and I didn't want to put a child in that situation.

I agree I think it's too late. I took children to a park last week. I was probably one of 12-15 mums there. Me and one other were the only ones not wearing a hijab. No one was talking in English. I'm not in a big city btw.

Isn't it interesting how two of the biggest cities in the Western world, London and New York, have Muslim mayors? What are the chances of a Christian leader in 'Muslim' countries? Less than zero, methinks.

On a previous thread I got in trouble for saying the immigrant part of Paris made me feel unsafe.

There are a few groups whom we're not permitted to criticise. This depends upon who's in government and who holds the power. No objective observations are allowed to be made, they're all determined by the politics of the time. And this time we're in now has been going on for a very long time. It's a very long game of chess.

Some of them have. The families of 300 of the victims. There were 2,977 victims in total (sadly). So they are in the minority.

Merkel got stick for her response to the Syrian crisis, which was to let in more asylum seekers than other European countries at the time. But with women there having fewer children later, you could argue it made sense for future workforce. Germany, of course also had Turkish guestworkers in the same way we had Windrush migrants. The Berlin Xmas market was a Tunisian who had not had his asylum status accepted.
It is awful but one murderer does not represent all people of the same faith, they only represent IS, in the same way the IRA only represented the IRA not all Catholics and one rapist does not represent all men.
So yes, we either accept migrants or we don't but you cannot class by race or creed, who you deem to be a "good" refugee or not. You hope that British Values of fairness, kindness and justice prevail for all our residents to be upstanders not bystanders and become decent citizens, whether here by birth or circumstance.

If you studied the Qur'an the Pillars don't call for violence and Jihad is struggle, misinterpreted by those who want a fight.
I have a queer daughter, I have a Muslim son (revert), I work in a school with a large Muslim intake - we preach kindness, tolerance and feminism. I don't recognise what some of you are spouting. My pupils are brought up to understand we are all unique and to celebrate our differences and accept and respect others. No hate speech.
It is not islamophobic to say the radicalised perp attacked 🏳️‍🌈 because acting on being gay is haram. It is islamophobic to say all Muslims are Islamist or are homophobic, or believe X or wear y or all Muslim women don't work (I have female Muslim colleagues who do).
As for Pride Marches, visibility and representation is important for those closeted, questioning their sexuality or fearing rejection from those close to them.
It's bloody awful what happened in Berlin and Paris. But some of you sound like Enoch bloody Powell.
