My son has been offered social housing.i can help him with sone things. But not larger items.

I'm hoping i can find a charity of some sort that sells 2nd hand furniture. As we could probably get most things he needs under one roof and its likely they will deliver.

Just to ad British heart foundation and simlar are to expensive. We can't use free cycle . Facebook anything that requires collection . We do not drive or have access to a car. So it makes sense to use a charity

So bit of a long shot but does anyone know of charity's that sell 2nd hand furniture in the southeast london area..

Both my dcs ended up buying stuff on FB market despite not having a car. And the seller was happy to come and drop the stuff off. I think in part, because uni = student = no car was pretty common iyswim

Speak to the housing association or council who have offered him the property and see what connections they have. He may be entitled to apply for help from a hardship fund.

Also, try looking for a St Vincent De Paul society in your area as they provide this type of help. Or you can email them at: [email protected] and see if they are able to help him. They will deliver it to him.

Have you spoken to the housing provider? They might have a scheme to help. The HA I work for has a separate charity it runs with the sole aim to provide furniture and white goods to incoming tenants.

Often smaller local charities will be cheaper, even if less good quality, than BHF. We have one that supports a Children's Hospice. Some foodbanks/community shops will have links to furniture repositories. Google your local area.

Ahh op it's great he's got a home. I 2nd a previous suggestion that posting his story online on free groups may well lead to items getting delivered to him - many people want to help out

along with getting 6 mates to help carry a bed home and borrowing a wheelbarrow to shift other stuff

and being proud that you had made progress in life, not sulky because not everything is handed to you from day 1

Don't worry, I'm here to be that person too. Moved in with a used futon matress and a holdall of clothes. Had no furniture for ages. Why can't he wait and buy a bit at a time. Why does everything have to be bought straight away and be donated by a charity.

In my first flat I had a matress on the floor in the bedroom and a rug in the lounge, that was it. I had small goods like kettle and toaster and we had a tiny counter top Stella Artois branded fridge, that was free. We went to the laundrette, and we slowly got things like table and chair and sofa over time - but it was months of not longer - probably 2 years really that we actually had anything. I didn’t have a bed frame or curtains the whole time I lived there. Nor did I ever have a chest of drawers (we had a little rail)

this is not me saying I had it shit so you have to, too. It’s just a reminder that for most people we don’t have it all together right away and there’s nothing wrong with that!

Never thought of that could do a wanted ad and put that we would need it delivered. That way it's in the add.

People on freecyle may certainly deliver ! Put a call out in there for what you need.

And say you can't collect people are generally v helpful.
My house is full of freecyle stuff and my DC had toys and clothes from there also. And really decent stuff !

Not to sure where you are in the country but here in Gosport we have places like hub4stuff and acts of kindness,they deliver furniture and white goods to people who are either moving into a new place or who struggle to buy new furniture or a washing machine,fridge etc.

It might be a good idea to phone your local council to see if they have any similar schemes in your area.

I wouldn’t do this to be honest, maybe I just live in a particularly horrible place, but when people do that here they get torn a bloody new one! Called greedy and entitled and all sorts. I think if you’re asking for free stuff you need to generally be willing to pay for delivery. Especially for a larger item like white goods where you need more than one person and are unlikely to fit it in a standard car like a golf, (you couldn’t single handedly lift a washing machine/fridge/sofa/armchair etc etc)

Don't rule out getting one or two of the most important things on finance - a lot of places do 0%. I got my one pricey item for £12 a month which you don't even notice.

although to be clear I think if it would fit in my estate car and I could get it in the car by myself and I could park by your property I would definitely deliver!

Ds lives in (a very dodgy part of) London. He found quite a bit of furniture ( including a big flatscreen tv!) on the street. People just chuck out stuff. He got a desk, some paintings and a coffee table. He was very pleased!

We don't have a car. Can't drive have no one who can help. But a couple of people have suggested doing a wanted add . That way I could put that we need items delivered.
