How do Brits view Latin people and culture ?

After some time living in the US…more and more people there seem to not like us Latin people.

So thinking on maybe stopping by the UK to move on and get a new experience there

However, not sure what to expect on culture differences, economy, etc

Who knows? Could maybe find the one in the UK lol. If there is any interest

Let's put it this way. Americans might speak the same language as the British, but that is where the similarity ends. Their long-standing cultural references, and their political & ethnic history (particularly in the Southern states) is entirely different from ours.

I take people as I find them so don’t view anyone as anything. I love the food though!

The USA are the issue I think. So here you would be American (because of that being where you are from) with Mexican heritage. But in America they call themselves by their heritage…like Irish Americans or Italian Americans, just because their great great grandad was once stationed in Italy during the war…obviously I’m exaggerating, but to us if they are born in America, they are American. If they have Italian or Irish heritage then who cares, they’re still American. I never understand the US need to label themselves based on heritage when they can be 3rd, 4th or more generation Americans.

All of my family generations are Mexican and I own land in Mexico.

I thought the same until I moved to London and met lots of of non-white people. Born and bred Brits are call themselves Ghanaian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan if their parents are and if they live in that community.

Irish, Scottish and Welsh people do, too. Not all, but many.

Unless there are pockets of people from South and Central America in big cities like London, I can't say that I've met many (just two, in fact!) from any of those countries (Brazil and Ecuador). I have no problem with anyone from another country or culture... it's just whether I like them or not, based on their personalities, rather than stereotypes of where they come from. I would be more likely to pepper you with questions about the language, culture, country, history, food and religion of the country that you come from!

I’m not that nice 😂😂 I just don’t have pre-conceived ideas of what someone is like until I spend time with them. My neighbours are Brazilian and nice, though their music taste is awful 🤦🏼‍♀️😂.

Love trying food from different places though - especially if spicy!

Love people that ask questions. Would love to share about all of that with anybody!

Sorry I’m not from the uk I’m from Ireland but going to answer anyway. There are loads of Brazilians here and I find them very easy to get along with . They are laid back and they assimilate into the Irish culture very easily. Dunno if it’s a Catholic thing or what .

I had a Colombian daughter in law who settled here with my DS. She was mistaken for all sorts ranging from Asian, Turkish and one time Chinese! As far as I know she didn't experience any type of racism or discrimination. She's extremely clever, speaks 4 languages and was doing well at work. The main thing for her was homesickness though. She found the culture e.g around family very different to here.

For me , and I suspect for many Brits, Latin people are Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and to some extent the French, ie south Western European. South Americans are to my mind somewhat different. And of course there are many SA countries each with their history, common identity etc. On the whole I have a good opinion, we had lovely Colombian and Ecuadorean neighbours, we’d pass food over the garden fence, help each other with practical issues etc. I feel there’s a warmth. Although occasionally some Columbians can come across as a bit loud by U.K. standards.

I agree what you mean about loudness. I am British and loud though and think my Brazilian neighbours are fine, their other neighbour said they make too much noise 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes it comes alive in summer with BBQs, merengue blaring out etc . Live and let live as long as it’s not long into the night. OP I think you’ll find there’s a big difference between summer when everything feels more alive and social, and winter which can be very long and frankly depressing.

Maybe should go and open a restaurant and have parties haha

If you're from the US you'd just be considered American here rather than Latin.
