“The Reform leader refused to speculate…”
How inaccurate.

Where have you seen that reported? I was tending to assume that was most likely - but haven't seen it confirmed.

He is obviously trying to use AW's murder to shore up his claim that he is in great danger and needs that £5m for security. Horrible bastard.

Ignore - now seen that in The Sun article.

"Balance of probabilities, Brother mine."

If there was a political dimension to the tragedy, then it's more unlikely that we would not know by now than it is to be a simple break in gone south.

It's also more likely to be someone adjacent, rather than a complete stranger.

Unlike Reform, I am willing to use my brain to mull over the facts. The speed with which someone was arrested and then cleared immediately suggests the local police decided to have a chat with the local ne'er do wells rather than send a crack team to the Chinese embassy.

DuncinToffee · 11/07/2026 18:32

I think Devon and Cornwall police said something similar when the news first broke. But nothing has been confirmed.

It's fairly clear they arrested her gardener.

It's fairly clear they arrested her gardener.

In a country where hurty tweets can get you arrested, I'd reserve judgement on that.

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2026 18:42

Well, yes, except that person was arrested and released obviously.

At least they didn't raid a cafe in Brixton ....

placemats · 11/07/2026 22:00

Whoever murdered Ann, knew her TV schedule timetable that day.

Zonder · 11/07/2026 23:50

Another arrest this evening - another white man in his twenties, in Yorkshire.

Llttledrummergirl · 12/07/2026 02:14

I was in London today, doing the tourist thing, so I haven't read anything at all.

A lovely thing happened though, spontaneously while we were in Leicester Square underground station. We were approaching the bottom of the escalator when a busker started playing sweet Caroline, hit the chorus as we got to the top and the the entire elevators joined in. It was brilliant Grin

Was just about to post this @DuncinToffee . As you say, about bloody time. It's been hidden in plain sight for years.

The Observer is reporting that George Cottrell has lost more than $1m in crapto gambling on prediction markets betting on Iran and Starmer

Can't remember which novel I was reading recently (I read a LOT of books) where there was a secret door at Cambridge through which only certain people went and once the narrator got behind the door he found a group of secret right wingers trying to bring the government down...

Oh just remembered - it was the new Jonathan Coe.

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2026 11:50

Here is part of the blurb:

^Post-university life doesn’t suit Phyl. Time passes slowly living back home with her parents, working a zero-hour contract serving Japanese food to holidaymakers at Heathrow’s Terminal 5. As for her budding plans of becoming a writer, those are going nowhere.

That is, until family friend Chris comes to stay. He’s been on the path to uncover a sinister think-tank, founded at Cambridge University in the 1980s, that’s been scheming to push the British government in a more extreme direction. One that’s finally poised to put their plans into action^

This cannot be a coincidence! It's obviously a well known thing in Cambridge.

placemats · 12/07/2026 12:05

The Cambridge Five: Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt, and John Cairncross. All double agent spies.

We read that in book club. The Proof of My Innocence. Very clever and slightly disturbing. We had a good discussion.

cardibach · 12/07/2026 12:07

I did a bit of research when I was reading it @Piggywaspushed. A lot of the stuff in it, abput links to Trump etc, is based on fact.

Crapto billionaire Christopher Harborne was granted a lengthy pause in a legal battle because of severe illness, a period in which he gave £12mn to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, court documents show

One of the comments

👀As well as giving £15mn to #Reform and £5mn to #Farage, #Harborne has supported the effort of rightwing activists to settle on the #ChagosIslands and block the #UK deal to hand over sovereignty to #Mauritius👀
