We have been trying to encourage butterflies, bees and other wildlife into our garden.
We have plenty of wildflowers, a patch of nettles and one of the lawns has been left totally unmowed.

We have definitely seen more butterflies and bees, we even had a dragonfly stop by on the pond. The garden may not be everyone's idea of perfectly manicured, but we are loving the creatures stopping by.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2026 20:49

I left the grass longer in parts because it was full of crickets jumping around. I don't care about perfectly mowed lawns either and and at the moment it is all brown anyway.

There's no lawn to mow because it's totally straw coloured and hasn't grown. A few dandelions that some bees love.

PickAChew · 18/07/2026 21:26

The garden next door is completely overgrown with buddleia all over the place. Surprisingly few butterflies.

The wasps are getting stupid already. I was watching one, the other day trying to get at the debris in various cobwebs, periodically getting itself stuck.

Ooh. That will be tricky for the right wing digital IT haters. They will probably decide it was a good idea now.

Burnham is causing a lot of froth on MN already.

Leslie Odom Jr was phenomenal - and the young cast (it’s always young for Hamilton in my experience) were not remotely outclassed. Incredible performance all round. Long day though and I’ve driven almost the whole length of the M4 in the last 24 hours. Need some sofa days for sure. Worth it though.

Even if they completely agree with the new policy there will other 'criticisms' eg policy was delivered in a 'fake' scouse accent, in a 'smug' infuriating manner, highlighting his lack of experience/u-turning/flip-flopping /attending Cambridge/not really being working class etc etc

Plus there will be a puerile nickname coming soon that is so so witty ................

It’s already started. “Eyelashes Andy”, doubtless more will appear over the coming days. It’s almost as if they want the country to be shit.

Evenstar · 19/07/2026 08:04

This is hilarious, these idiots can’t even spell movement and most of the comments are people laughing at them and trying to explain to him how people like Farage are playing people like him. Quite encouraging really

I think some of them do want the UK to be shit. The ones that I suspect don't actually live here, if you get my meaning. The rest of them, I don't know what they want. I am not sure they do. Some sort of coup so that St. Kemikaze of Badenough can take over? As for nick names, they are so hypocritical about that.

TemperanceWest · 19/07/2026 09:24

Can someone tie my hands together to stop me posting on the Burnham threads, please.

BestIsWest · 19/07/2026 09:42

Don’t do it @TemperanceWest! So much snobbery. Even his Cambridge college was the wrong one you know!

Not sure if I should talk about nicknames as people are keen to misinterpret my comments about namecalling

The right wing doesn't hate digital ID.

Just digital ID they aren't running.

And old and well worn political strategy.

Misspelling are also a well worn and deliberate tactic. Tends to scare the more intelligent away.

I mean think about it. Someone who can spell "accommodation probably is less inclined to shout at buses.

I believe the thrust is that he's a better Christian than you for forgiving George Cottrell

Meanwhile, the turd that is Andrew Tate floating up the toilet bowl of popular discourse is reminding the world that Tate too believes in Christian forgiveness. Here he is with a well know crook.

After all did Jesus not only forgive the money lenders, but allow them to use his likeness for a fee ?

https://www.thecanary.co/trending/2026/07/18/nigel-farage-security-scandal/

The arrogance of Farage’s lie about being refused state funded security is exceeded by his crass stupidity in thinking he could get away with it Yesterday Yusuf revealed that Farage had NOT in fact spent any of the secret £5m gift on security Now it’s confirmed that after he received the £5m gift he WAS still receiving state funded security

“George Cottrell opened account days before mystery Reform donation”

Seems like Cottrell has been funnelling money through secret accounts to his mother.
His mother (as UK resident) pays Reform. Tice appears to receive cash via this method.

The question is where Cottrell got the money from in the first place.

Small boats to UK now down 45% year on year to mid-July. The BBC continues to (mistakenly) tend to hypothesise a weather effect. It is neither weather nor UK govt policy. It is a change in EU-wide flows.

The UK fall not as dramatic as EU-wide fall. This won't change much changing UK terms of protection (2023 ban on claims had v little impact). It could be addressed by deeper UK-EU cooperation. We aren't in shared database of claims, so people will now try the UK second. Scale up routes/returns deal

Badenoch just said, on national TV, that UK's carbon emissions have gone up "in total" because of the 2008 Climate Change Act.

They have, in fact, declined by more than half.

Did #Kuenssberg break in to point this basic fact out? Of course not
