At 78 I would never have described my mum as a quite elderly woman. Certainly she was an elderly woman 20 years later.

My parents are around that age and beginning to slow down a lot. My dad's already lost his few friends and is quite isolated. Neither are needing care, yet but I don't think it would take much to precipitate that situation, now.

When I reached 65 (66 in November of this year), I realised I was no longer a young whippersnapper. 😂

Maybe it was the invitation to have the shingles vaccine.

Blimey. For some reason I had you down as a whippersnapper of about 55ish!

I'm 58, does that mean I'm a whippersnapper? <jumps up and down in girlish excitement><creaks><stops>

You are to me - you’re seven years older than my son. 😱

I’ll be 57 next month. Hopefully that makes me qualify as a whippersnapper??

My DM is 86 (87 in September) and until 2 years ago was spending 3-4 months every year in West Africa working for her own Christian charity. She keeps saying she means to go back despite having had a very bad back injury last year (crushed vertebra).

You're a few months less whippersnappery than me!

That’s cheered me up. I’m increasingly conscious of the rate the sand’s running through the hourglass. So many things still to do, so little time.

Embrace the whippersnapery!

I changed jobs a few years ago. Imagine my utter shock when one of ds1s primary school friends also started the same day. How old did I feel that day.Gin

I turned 60 just a few days ago. Is 59 the end of whippersnapery?

The consensus seems to be 65.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/07/2026 22:04

I'm in my early 60s. I feel my whippersnappery days are long over. Not quite 65 yet though 😃

And happy belated birthday @LittleBowSheep.

I wish I could get the shingles vaccine but I’m too young at 61. Having had it in my eye and needing months of treatment I’m quite keen to avoid getting it again.

Yay! I’m still a whippersnapper! (Though all the walking and dog wrangling makes me stand up and fail to start to move as though I’m about 112).

Oh that's incredibly painful, my sister suffered the same.

The vaccine doesn't prevent you from getting shingles, it just lessens the possibility.

I honestly think Farage will pull out. Nominations aren't final until later this week. He'll make a excuse (security) and bugger off to America.

Cheguevarahamster · 14/07/2026 22:43

Pleased that I am a whippersnapper 😃

I have a feeling you might be right. He would probably still win, but sharing a stage with a bunch of mostly novelty, barking mad or really far right candidates probably isn't how he envisioned his election night triumph against the "establishment".
