The McConnel thing is well dodgy. The paramedics responded to a "cardiac arrest" call. Now maybe someone in the house was doing CPR on him while waiting for medical help to arrive but even then...Most lay people don't have a clue how to do it properly.
My father survived (for 20 years) after a heart attack that resulted in cardiac arrest but that's because he had the good sense to arrest on an A&E trolley. The doctor said my mother saved his life by driving him to the hospital when he was having severe chest pain.
