It's time we got rid of the likes of Trump and Farage who build their wealth whilst taking advantage of their positions of power. They should be serving the public not increasing their bank balance.

People of Clacton you have a chance to stand up and say no to corruption. Kick Farage out.

I read somewhere that some monster raving loony party policies did actually get put in place!

They are not as silly as they look.

One year they wanted to introduce zebra crossings for hedgehogs.

Have you seen the underpasses below motorways to allow badgers/foxes/and other wildlife to cross?
In other countries they have overpasses to allow deer/bison/elk etc to cross busy main roads.

Count Binface is Jon Harvey, an Oxford educated TV comedy writer and author. He has said in previous elections that if elected he would move to the constituency. He'd most likely make an excellent MP.

I’ll certainly be rooting for him!

RedToothBrush · 08/07/2026 09:22

BBC Breakfast interview is going well!! 😂

RedToothBrush · 08/07/2026 09:23

Amazing.

RedToothBrush · 08/07/2026 09:24

"95 votes. It's only one short of an upside down 69"

Binface on the number of votes he got in Makerfield.

RedToothBrush · 08/07/2026 09:25

Best interview ever.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 08/07/2026 09:31

In response to the comments that JH would be better than NF.....

I don't doubt that Jon Harvey would be a better constituency MP than NF (at least no worse) but you're not voting for him, you're voting for a satirical alter ego. Which one is the MP?

It's like Sasha Baron Cohen would probably be an ok MP (better than NF, which is the benchmark here) but Ali G would be a farce. Honestly, if JH is serious, he should unmask and actually tell us what his policies are - I think that would be more effective than doing the "I'm crazy, me" act.

Otherwise the comment about "the people get the government they deserve" springs to mind. Voting in BF is one of those things that seems funny and a "fuck you" at the time but also puts another nail in the coffin of the serious politics we actually need.

But also Lab and Cons need to grow up and field candidates.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 08/07/2026 09:34

But also they need to change the rules so if you resign you cant stand in the by election. It's a waste of money and pure grandstanding by NF.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/07/2026 09:48

Binface was brilliant on BBC Breakfast.

I couldn’t disagree more. The opposition should absolutely refuse to play the chaos game. I have renewed respect for them refusing to rollover. They have all said they will field candidates in the future but not in this circus.

We absolutely should not go down the same route as the US, legitimising this type of ‘politics’.

Binface vs Weaselface

It really is the people vs the establishment.

This is (or, perhaps, would not be) a normal by-election. Farage has created it for his own purposes. Why should the other parties get sucked into his game? It’s not “grown up” to indulge a man who’s trying to avoid being quizzed in parliament about his financial dealings.

I strongly expect that Farage would win any by-election in Clacton. Which would put him back where he is now, under official scrutiny. What’s the point of this charade?

snurtifier · 08/07/2026 10:24

Electing a comedian has worked OK for Ukraine.

this. He’s expecting to win. Why?

If you go around insulting the voters and the person they elected freely, you’ll only make the people of Clacton more intransigent and want to show the world who’s boss. Same as in Makerfield.

I don’t know the area at all or the constituents and where it falls on Britains socioeconomic scales, but that’s human nature.

A few of Screaming Lord Sutch's campaigns were put into law in the 70s, commercial radio was one.

Dog passports were also a MRLP policy.

Labour won in Makerfield. Are you suggesting Reform voters switched allegiance to get Starmer out? I know that is the line that some have spun. I doubt it is true. Why would anti-Labour voters vote for a Labour candidate who could potentially turn things around?

Farage will probably win Clacton, but if his only opponents are Count Binface and Fox, he is going to look terribly foolish on that stage when the returning officer reads out the results.

CB could do it though if all the anti-Refirm people got out and voted for him. Come on Clacton, do it for us!

MyThreeWords · 08/07/2026 07:23

Cons/Lab/Lib should get their act together and agree on a single anti-Reform candidate. It would give them an easy-peasy no-brainer sandbox version of the cross-party strategising that would/will become normal if/when we get a proportional voting system

Nope, that would be playing straight into Farage’s hands. “Look, the establishment parties are all interchangeable! They’re all the same”.

IceandFire7 · 08/07/2026 10:38

Good point!

And Arnie was an ok governor. It's not that JH/CBF is a comedian, it's that the candidate is not a real person but an alter-ego. Lots of good points on this thread and honestly I think we all agree this is a shitty situation of NF's making and he does not deserve to be re-elected but I think electing a fictional character instead doesn't improve the state of our political system, it just sort of knocks it down another level. MPs need to be serious people.

I still think a good, serious independent is an infinitely better option but issue is they basically need to be from Clacton as not that many people are gonna want to move there to be the MP (sorry Clacton, but it's true). Not saying there isnt such a person but it's going to be mathematically quite a small pool of people.

Otherwise, mass spoiling of ballots? IDK. It's all v depressing and shit.

Mass spoiling of ballots is effectively a vote for the winner.

I find it the opposite of depressing. All the parties put differences aside to deny Farage his circus. That is a positive.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 08/07/2026 11:30

I suppose the result of this prospective, utterly pointless by-election will turn on whether the citizens of Clacton have a sense of humour.

I can’t believe Clactonians are so devoid of fun that many of them wouldn’t make a point of voting for a man with a bin on his head in preference to Farage. Alas, I suspect that the cheerful residents would be outnumbered by the Reformites. But one can hope. And even a good-ish but losing result for the Count would be one in the eye for Farage.

StarlightLady · 08/07/2026 13:27

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 08/07/2026 07:22

They've all said that they will field candidates at the second by-election which will inevitably occur when the standards investigation is concluded.

It is Farage who is using the constituency and wasting taxpayer money for his own political stunt. The others are absolutely right not to engage and I'm glad that they are united on this.

This!

Dog passports were also a MRLP policy.

Car air bags, dog passports, all day pub opening, pedestrianising Carnaby Street and votes at 18 were his policies too.
