I reckon Wonderwall would make a great National anthem instead of the current dirge of God Save----.I can't stand football and watched the fans singing it and they were so passionate.

Wonderwall is every bit as much of a dirge as God Save the King. It's bloody awful. If you're going to have a British rock song go with a proper banger like Ace of Spades or Crazy Train.

Difficult choice. I agree that our National Anthem is problematic, especially when we get to the verse about crushing the rebellious Scots! However, Jerusalem is too religious (specifically Christian in what is now a multi faith nation), and Land of Hope and Glory glorifies conquering other nations. There's always I vow to Thee My Country but that also gets very religious in the second verse.

Really uplifting - its got all the country connection - no royal mentions.

Alas, it is just for Wales and I get that - It would be lovely to have one for all that captures this spirit.

A slow and ponderous song expressing lament - it originally referred to songs and tunes played at funerals but is now used as a pejorative for any boring, drippy, whiny, weak sauce song. Oasis did a bunch of these but the real masters of the genre are of course Coldplay. You can make a song even more dirge-like if you have no concept of syncopation or harmonic motion. Just bang out the same 4 chords on repeat at 90bpm. For eternity. Like, for example, Coldplay.

Our national anthem should be the Hokey Cokey as it is not religious or political or classist, it showcases our identity as a country of superior comedic value, everyone knows the words and it would give all participants a little bit of exercise and community spirit.

I propose a new law that all work places and educational establishments are required to perform the Hokey Cokey every morning to unify this great country!
