I think it's eally irresponsible of the government to be honest. A lot of people don't know what equates to a unit of alcohol let alone elimination rates. I wonder how many people will be drink driving the next morning and turning up to work under the influence. As well as has been pointed out, the rise in domestic violence!

Couldn't agree more... I have absolutely no doubt there will be pockets of trouble and there will always be those that get utterly tanked up.

Somewhere where there is a Butlins.

Well then I have zero sympathy

Some staff will also WANT to work.

Quite. Both my DC work in a pub. They’ll probably work it if given the option, they enjoy when there are “events” as it’s a nice atmosphere and they’re with their workmates.

Why's that then?

It generally is.

It’s generally not. I’m not sure what hell hole you’re living in but I live in a small, working class, Northern town with 7 pubs and there has been absolutely no trouble whatsoever for any of the matches.

As for the increase in domestic violence, it also increases at Christmas - let’s not celebrate that either yeah?

Looks like they are kicking off 6 hours earlier due to storms so no noisy pubs at 4 am and children can go to school without debate

And people can enjoy clearing up the vomit from their gardens and the broken glass in the bus shelters before bedtime. Surely everyone’s happy now Grin

Crunchymum · 03/07/2026 20:38

No need for an extended opening hours now.

Wales rarely qualify (if ever? I don't follow football). I agree that pubs shouldn't be open in the middle of the night. Don't England often get to the last 16?

Irrelevant . This is the 2026 WC.

the next 2 WC (af least) won't have games at 1am, so it's pretty much a 'one off'

lucky that the people whinging don't suffer from insomnia if they're so unable to cope with a bad nights sleep.

SugarC · 04/07/2026 04:56

We are big football supporters in this house thanks to DH & DS.
We don't drink and due to working along side DA charities we see the impact football has when it comes to violence. I am hoping and praying for some much needed common sense on sunday/monday. I really hope people embrace the "fun" without deciding to take out their frustrations on their partner and that people know their limits despite pubs staying open for an extended period of time.
You can't blame people for being anxious or annoyed when they've seen the darker side of what happens when you mix footie fans with stupid amounts of alcohol and "responsibility" given the state of our public services.

No staff will be MADE to work. Most pub staff are on zero hours contracts, they choose whether to work or not.

You are so naive.

People who work in hospitality or retail have very little power when it comes to their working conditions and they would be reluctant to say no to shifts if they want to keep their job!

Okay. Sure. I’m very naive. I don’t have two adult children that work in hospitality. No. I know nothing.

Edited

I do suffer from insomnia, it has blighted my life. Which is why I won’t be staying up to watch the football. I take every tiny little drop of sleep I can get.

If the loon with the voovoozela is parping away in the pub at that time in the morning I am going to be very pissed off, it was bad enough at midnight.

😆😆

Not sure I'd want to be on the roads Mon morning tbh....

Yes I’m thinking that… a lot of people will definitely still have alcohol in their systems.

But are you whinging about the pubs staying open for those who do want to go?

I would love to go, but I'm not well enough to go, (after having having a stroke & other health issues now. On top if many years of insomnia!!) but I'm not whinging about the pubs being open & I hope many people go & enjoy themselves!!

my insomnia has meant I've seen lots of tge muddle if the night games of this FWC. Im going to go to bed tonight & take it as it comes. If I'm not awake I'll watch the game in the morning, if I can avoid any spoilers!
