Yes, 90 minutes plus
Hydration breaks
Stoppage time(s)
Extra time
More stoppage time(s)
Hydration break
Penalties
Post-match interviews and analysis

I think you are being unkind to Mexico to suggest they will not win in 90 minutes.

I don't think pubs should be open in the middle of the night.

I take it you’re Welsh from the username. Still bitter you didn’t qualify?

Earplugs and eye masks exist. You have three days to get some.

I have them, obviously. They are great for sleeping during night shifts. But they will do nothing to block out the amount of noise a football match generates or the noise of the drunk people leaving the pub, or the fights and the police turning up to break them up. I don’t object to pubs being allowed to open for it, it is only pubs in the middle of residential areas that I think is wrong. There are plenty of pubs in our town centre that people could watch at instead.

mtobrokeme · 03/07/2026 07:11

We’ll be watching at home, including our son. Work are fine with us going in late, as are school.

I’d love to be watching in the pub but we’re too lazy! I hope the ones that are have a good night/morning!

Loop earplugs block everything.

Stop being a misery. It’s one night.

👋 Sending a wave to all other emergency services workers….as if Mondays in A&E weren’t bad enough…😢

I think that given it is a foregone conclusion that England will lose, perhaps the Gov want to help pubs eke as much money from the World Cup while they still can?

hereforthelolz · 03/07/2026 07:30

We’re going to our local - it’s locals only that night. Looking forward to it, it will be fun!

What a vile thing to say. Wishing ill on another poster because they enjoy the football.

How is it a foregone conclusion?

I’m surprised someone so spiteful works in a caring profession, but it takes all sorts I guess.

Jellylasagnafortwo · 03/07/2026 07:40

Villages near us have asked the local community what they think. They are being really respectful of those that live close to the pubs. I think so far only one has decided to open.

I’m not a football fan and will be fast asleep and working early on Monday (although hoping my 6am drive will clash with people going home from the pubs).

Jellylasagnafortwo · 03/07/2026 07:41

Hoping that @bootle96 left out the word ‘don’t’!

helddarkness · 03/07/2026 07:45

I have to say that this has been the biggest time that I’ve been thrilled DH isn’t really into football 🤣 could not be bothered with that!

Wales rarely qualify (if ever? I don't follow football). I agree that pubs shouldn't be open in the middle of the night. Don't England often get to the last 16?

Settlersa · 03/07/2026 07:49

Fortunately I don't live near a pub or on any route home from a pub. I guess some of the towns might be a bit rowdy after it.

Yes there is an expectation that we will be in the last 16, I think if we didn't that would be seen as really bad.

They don't help with the vomit you have to set over in the street, the smashed bottles everywhere or the kicked in bus shelters and cans and takeaway shite thrown over your hedge though.

MalteserGeezee · 03/07/2026 08:05

I quite enjoyed watching the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea in the pub -- early start with bacon butties, pints or bloody Mary's. But slap bang in the middle of the night is something else, people will absolutely drink through and potentially go to work steaming.

Christ it’s not going to be that bad 😂

DeftGoldHedgehog · 03/07/2026 08:13

Obviously not all pubs are going to be open by any means. But those who want to, are able to in terms of staffing, and think it would make business sense, are able to stay open without a special licence being required, that's all.
