Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 36: Calmly through the day

A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

It will be calming for all.

Mr Porch man came and decommissioned my alarm for me after I'd tried everything to fix it after being up four times last night and many previous nights too. He also pointed out my lawn needed cutting, asked to see my mower to check it was on the right setting, put it on the right setting and cut both lawns for me.

I'm trying to not fall asleep while I watch the tennis. Tomorrow I'll do a tip run and start the process of sorting the stuff in the garage.

Anyone want a wedding dress??

MissConductUS · 10/07/2026 21:09

12234m, he fixed your porch, decommissioned your alarm system, and mowed not one but two lawns for you?

My goodness. 😀

I know. A friend asked if he was married. I told her he is, is much older than me and we are just friends. I am a little hmm at a text I have got off him but I will be wary.

That’s a win @12234m!
Pool looks amazing @MissConductUS! Our pool/gym is being refurbished and we will only have one pool outdoor or indoor until September. I love swimming.
@UmanresourcesI hate going to the dentist. It’s all that scraping and polishing!
@MrsSPenguinzDS has just come back from his trip. He and his friends compiled a ratings list for the cities they visited based on friendliness, hotel (only where they stayed), tourist stuff, food etc. Prague won with Milan and Vienna close second Paris and Berlin were at the bottom and Bled, Venice, Amsterdam in the middle. But they enjoyed every place in its own way. Want to go back to Bled for proper RnR!
We are going away next week but in the meantime still have to work, pack and wash/ clean. Plus the pleasure of downloading loads of books onto kindle…..

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/07/2026 01:58

Had a great day out with the kids today.
Took them to a baseball game.

MissConductUS · 12/07/2026 10:59

The pool is lovely, sprouts. We may go back today, but it will be crowded.

That's good to know, havoc. 😁

DS is very happy to be with us this weekend, as the air conditioning in his apartment stopped working a few days ago. He's reported it to the management office, but doesn't know when it will be fixed. HVAC technicians are very busy this time of year. He can stay with us this week, but he'd have a 45 minute drive to work. We had steaks and chicken on the grill last night, with corn on the cob and a Caesar salad. We'll cook out again tonight, probably burgers and hot dogs.

More of my zinnias are flowering, and I'm now getting some ripe tomatoes. Everything on the deck is doing well, but the deck itself needs painting. We had the whole house painted about 10 years ago, and most of it looks fine, but the deck doesn't. I don't know if we'll paint it ourselves or hire someone to do it. I'm leaning towards hiring someone and doing it in September.

We watched England win and went to bed at 2am. Now charging the car, even though it has 63% which equates to 221 miles, because we’re driving 150 miles on Saturday and we get half price electricity between 11am and 4pm on a Saturday.

Umanresources · 12/07/2026 12:52

We stayed up and watched the football, well I was reading, sketching, playing games and finishing my Tesco order. OH is a football fan, but really only watches big games, so I’m quite happy to go along with it. It was 3 by the time I got to bed, but by 4,30 I was wide awake again.
I also spent a long time looking for a camping bed. I am supposed to be having a Doppler test on my legs and the nurse informed me that I would have to lie down for an hour before the test, which would then take another hour to do. I can’t lie on the sofa in the living room and I don’t really want to lie in the bedroom, so a camping bed seems the answer. It arrives tomorrow!
Had a shower and it’s a bit cooler today and I have some more art supplies arriving later, as well as the Tesco order.
My DD went to her goddaughter’s 3rd birthday party and sent me some videos. It was a “Frozen” theme and there were princesses galore. It must be a lovely job making little girls’ dreams come true. When my DD was about 5, she had a dressing up party. Her costume was a car mechanic, with overalls and tools. She was never a girly girl.

No!!! He cut both my lawns. Bloody hell. I'm already worried about his intentions though I'm sure he's a gentlemen and I'm quite safe but OMG. I've never ever heard that. Are you sure?

Today I have pruned some garden plants, repotted a pepper, down two wash loads, spoken to my child, texted another and watered some of the garden.

About to have lunch while I watch an episode of Bull.

inkgirl · 12/07/2026 13:04

My boys come home from a scouts camping trip today. Can't wait to see them

MissConductUS · 12/07/2026 13:10

I've just come back from a three mile walk, and I picked some wild raspberries at the end. I'm going to do some strength training, then shower and have breakfast.

Welcome, @inkgirl, and thanks for sharing your Scouts camping news. How old are your boys?

@12234m, I think he's probably just enjoying some positive attention from you. Since you are a younger woman, he finds it flattering. And he probably thinks that you're a lovely person. It doesn't necessarily mean that he fancies you, but I agree, you'll need to make sure he doesn't cross any boundaries.

inkgirl · 12/07/2026 13:13

@MissConductUSthey are 13, 12 and 10, so quite close in age haha. They love scouts and been looking forward to their camping trip for awhile

12234m · 12/07/2026 13:41

@MissConductUS I would be shocked if he felt there was anything but friendship but I am being on my guard. Thank you.

MissConductUS · 12/07/2026 15:43

Inkedgirl, my son and daughter were born 22 months apart. Having three so close in age must have been quite a handful for you in the early years.

12234m, it's lovely that he's been so helpful to you. I assume you're a single mum. As to his intentions, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. He's innocent until proven guilty and all of that.

It's going to be a lovely afternoon here, but I'm not sure if it's worth going to the pool as it will be very crowded.

I'm fully lol. 😂
Yes, here on the west coast in Canada anyway. 🙂
(it's all in context and tone, so don't be too worried about saying it)
I'm careful to not say I'm rooting for xyz team around any Aussies as that also means 😉 in Aussie slang (tip to root and all that). 😂

Happy Sunday. 😊

12234m · 12/07/2026 18:30

I'm not a single mum. I live alone apart from when my kids visit. I was married. Divorced him. Don't like the connotations of being called a single mum. It infuriates me as most women as single with their children as the dad has fucked off. I'm just me. Used to be married. Happy I'm no longer.

aliasfrog · 12/07/2026 18:33

My self seeded hollyhocks are looking fantastic this year! Some sparrows had a fight (or rather two males doing their mating dance to and then chasing a female, poor woman) in them earlier and made such a racket!

I fear I may have messed up my washing load 🤦🤔🙄..

With an eye on the tennis and brain thinking of a hundred and one other things ...I forgot what I was doing...and muscle memory did it instead !!

I hardly ever buy liquid washing stuff for the machine for this reason ...but it was on offer .

I have just put it in the softener compartment 🤦🤦🤦.

Luckily it was the dregs of the basket .
The stuff that you always think ..I I will do that another time .

Let's see how these spare towles , pillow cases and emergency sheets turn out. 🙄😂😂

MissConductUS · Yesterday 10:11

Welcome, @aliasfrog, and thanks for sharing your avian news. Your flowers are fabulous! I started my zinnias from seed this year, too. I had a wren nesting in one of the hanging baskets on my deck, which made it difficult to water, but the wren seems to have departed now.

Bizzey, when you say "I hardly ever buy liquid washing stuff for the machine for this reason ...but it was on offer ." do you not usually use laundry detergent in the machine?

DS did spend Sunday night with us so that he wouldn't have to go back to sleep in his flat without air conditioning, so he'll have to get an early start this morning to get to work on time.

I'm going out shortly for a walk, and the sun isn't even up yet.

@MissConductUS ..I use stuff that I put straight into the drum , not the drawer compartment bit.
That is only used for the fabric conditioner/softener , or sometimes powder stuff for whitening the whites .

Mainly when I was doing 100 white school shirts ! Or DS chef whites !!

bizzey · Yesterday 18:19

Off up to mams in a bit to do more watering !
I have bought some mulch to put down to hopefully help with the heat.
Luckily, today does feel different. I haven't had to put my fan on and I feel I can breathe !

Good news is mam is happy with how her garden is looking !😊👍.

I am no gardener and have been worried I am going to drown the plants !

Taken some pain killers in advance for my back .I know it will play me up
And I have remembered to put in an old t shirt and not my nice white one that I was wearing the other day 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️!
