This story of the UK-US trade / pharmaceutical deal is not going away -as a classic example of why secrecy over such things is never ultimately a good idea, as well as being about the crucial new negotiation that is governments against companies

Great bit of investigative journalism - just a shame it will feed straight into the right wing playbook.
The real question for me is how the Home Office could get this particular person so wrong. (Yes I'm aware of the issue post Brexit - but the BBC found out about his French conviction...)

Since Brexit, the UK no longer has a data-sharing agreement with many countries in the EU, making it more difficult to check criminal and immigration records of asylum seekers, according to Lucy Moreton of the Immigration Services Union.

"If we were able to share databases, even if just with our nearest neighbours, with Germany, with Belgium, with Holland and France, say - then, yes, we'd know that they had a conviction for people smuggling," she said.
