Badenoch doesn’t seem to realise she’s on a loser talking about defence. Starmer gave her the figures on how much defence spending has increased under Labour. She can only see one option for funding anything more - cutting welfare. Utterly useless.
Edit: sorry, I’m watching PMQs and getting irate

Edited

Steering well clear of the subject about what is worth defending, naturally.

I don't mind defending equality and helping the disadvantaged.

I'm fucked if I want to defend the wealthy and maintain the inequality that they preserve.

cardibach · 01/07/2026 12:41

Is it just me, or are Lib Dem questions getting more and more Tory sounding?

The Liberals are the spawn of the Tories. Historically and politically.

TemperanceWest · 01/07/2026 12:43

Well at least Badenoch didn't insult people this time. I think someone, maybe colleagues or the Speaker, had a word with her.

Efacsen · 01/07/2026 13:11

Farage actually made it to PMQs - only to hear Starmer bring up the crapto-currency lobbying and 270K/hour gold selling in an answer to a question by Lee Anderson

That won't encourage him to attend more often

cardibach · 01/07/2026 13:37

Anderson’s question was appalling. What a vile man he is. Starmer sounded properly cross about it too.

Meanwhile (again, following the fact that MN bears only a passing resemblance to real life) I note the retro themed thread about the value of wifework (complete with crimpolene flares and kipper ties) has pulled in the "womens work is worthless" crowd. (Which suggests they wren't watching Kemi live. Mixed messaging, really).

Also, I have never trusted "feminists" who respond "You what ?!" when the name Lysistrata is mentioned.

It’s totally immersive and atmospheric. I saw it when Eddie Redmayne was Emcee and Jessie Buckley was Sally. Incredible.

Oh, I saw that lovely Welsh chap from It's A Sin. He was brilliant. Very moving.

BIWI · 01/07/2026 15:37

One of the musicals we performed at school, which I was in, was Cabaret - definitely not the version that's currently playing in London!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/07/2026 16:17

Well the last thread filled up quickly.
Thanks for the new one @DuncinToffee.
Tax of Doris, a friend's rather grumpy looking cat.

PickAChew · 01/07/2026 16:20

This should cheer Doris up. A field mouse enjoying my spent geranium flowers.

Probably quite grainy because I had to zoom in a lot and then take a screenshot to appease the MN gremlins.

There isn't even a quiet part there, it's just straight up said out loud!

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2026 17:58

My God, that is despicable.

TemperanceWest · 01/07/2026 18:04

Vile.

The state of the far right. Sitting around in their pants wondering why all the cameras have gone away.

The message is so clearly racist and frankly out of touch that I can only assume Goodwin is lashing out because he isn’t getting the attention he thinks he deserves, whether that’s from Farage or Twitter.

Mayors don’t run cities.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2026 18:07

They do in some cities and towns.

But this is a LORD Mayor- ceremonial. Goodwin knows that and also knows his followers may not.

yes, sorry, got sloppy there. Lord Mayors are non political (or ours is, assume that’s the same elsewhere)

Spot on @Notonthestairs. That’s the end of Goodwin’s political ambitions.

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2026 18:18

i looked it up. Bristol’s Lord Mayor has to be a serving councillor and is elected by the council.

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2026 18:20

Oh, OK.

He’s probably co-hosting a podcast with Truss.

All the candidates for the Manchester mayoralty have now been announced. The Reform candidate’s priorities are interesting.
