IDK but August doesn't seem a great time for the LA to recruit temporary staff to run the by-election - people away on holiday/ childcare issues during the school holidays?

Surely September would be better

Let's see what MPs say. They may agree with you. If they can be bothered to attend, that is.

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 18:18

August is bonkers for so many reasons.

There's always the postal vote 🫢

Just a thought but who is the leader of Reform in Parliament then now? Do they not need one who is a sitting MP? Does Terrible Chicken Noise Tice take the reins?

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 18:57

I think it’s still Farage. Kind of the reverse of Starmer still being PM but not leader of the Labour Party.

DuncinToffee · Yesterday 19:23

Today's best bit of news from Nato - Erdogan gave the other leaders each a revolver engraved with their name and a box of live rounds.

But Starmer has had to leave his in Turkey to be decommissioned because, while Erdogan gave him a note waiving export controls, it's illegal to import into the UK.

In times past giving someone a revolver was a rather strong hint

Al Carns has confirmed he will not be running

My moneys on Starmer becoming leader of Reform and swinging them to the left, then Binface becomes leader of the Labour Party, Farage wears the bin, Andy Burnham gets the 15 million quid, and Carol Vordeman becomes prime minister.

Meanwhile

A Reform UK spokesman said: "Reform UK will move the writ tomorrow morning, and we are proposing a by-election on 6 August."

Reform has to ask for a writ to be issued to trigger a by-election process, which has to be approved by MPs. A by-election would take place between 21 and 27 working days after that.

It is not clear yet whether the council, who make the formal arrangements, would be able to hold the contest on that date.

Am I hearing rumours that the local authority are struggling to find proof or residence needed for the write to be moved ? (I'm not, but it would be too delicious not to briefly contemplate 😀)

I hope MPs decide their approval can wait until September. I especially hope that enough MPs do not attend to make it troublesome.

Who wants to hear Farage slamming MPs for not turning up in parliament ?

Oh how I would love to see Farage moan at other MPs for not attending Parliament. What an utter clown he is.

Apparently Laurence Fox is planning to stand 🙄

Will he still do his JOB slot tomorrow? I think not.

I Idly wonder what a law change to required any candidate in an election to be eligible to vote in that constituency would do ? It would stop people swooping in from outside the constituency .....
