Nigel Farage doesn’t control when, or even if, a by election is held in Clacton.

The House of Commons does.

If a Commons majority decides that the parliamentary enquiry into Mr Farage must first be completed, so be it.

Press conferences aren’t parli**ament.

The investigation should be completed.
Farage should cooperate with it in the interests of moving things along.
If he doesn’t then the Committee will just have to report findings without him.

I suppose if the Commons decided to complete the investigation they could dispense with the recall petition because he’s already resigned!

I'd love it if Reeves insisted he had to stay and face the music.

Same he shouldn’t be allowed to drag the parliamentary process down to what is effectively a Farage circus it’s so wrong on so many levels although possibly a marker on how much standards have dropped over the years unfortunately.

Lib Dems won't stand

According to the Telegraph Badenoch has said she won’t stand a candidate. That’s the Tories, Libdems and Restore. We just need Labour and the Greens and it will be Farage v Binface.

I think effectively they resign and then that resignation is accepted. So the House of Commons agreeing they should go is a technicality. Since, even if you disagree with Simon's reason for stepping down, it.wouodnt make much sense to insist someone stays in a post they don't want to be in. Whilst Farage isn't just stepping down. He's stepping down with the stated intention he will run for the same job in the subsequent by-election triggered by him stepping down. Which is absolutely farcical.

Me too. I really hope he’ll end up just facing Binface - or nobody at all, although God knows what happens then.

i think the Tories needed Restore to also chip away at the vote.
But a sensible decision and shows Farage up.
