I kind of want Belgium to win now, just to wind up Trump and make his grubby interference useless.

How much do you think Trump will pay Belgium to lose ?

I really hope the England team does well. It’s exactly the morale boost the country needs. My dad was football obsessed, as a result my upbringing was like aversion therapy but even I had a hint of a glow when I saw the news coverage this morning.

Yes, me too. I normally just tolerate it, with my DH listening to football right through the football season. But yes, I’m happy for the team this morning. 😀

BestIsWest · 06/07/2026 09:52

Congrats to the England team. Pleased for you all.

Duncin - you are much more gracious than I would be.

Agree!

Angela Rayner is standing in for JOB and putting the boot into Farage.😊

Agree!

Same. I can't help thinking it's petty and pathetic to go for someone like that just over their nationality. Xenophobia seems to be the in thing.

Ach, derxa is just playing disruptor.

She and Clav have made similar comments in the past

I think we are all Belgium for the next game, not for the tournament win though.

The premise seemed to be that if you're not English, then you shouldn't be supporting England. Logic like that is best ignored.

Yes Belgium for me. Will most likely be asleep. Can't believe I fell asleep about a minute after the KO. Woke up for the last excruciating 11 minutes.

SerendipityJane · 06/07/2026 11:10

With tiresome predictability the only tournament England game I can recall missing since watching the 86 world cup (yes, I saw the Hand of God in a pub lock-in in South London) is hailed as the best in 40 years.

But well done England. Could not be happier to see a team that looks like the country I know and love doing so well. Especially as their sunshine eclipses nasty Nigel.

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2026 11:16

Ah thanks all. It upset at me at first but now I really can't be bothered with these petty small minded attacks.

Happy to wave the flag for both England and Holland and any other nation I fancy

Who is JOB? Oh wait James O'Brien

Xenophobia? I’m Scottish and can’t imagine supporting any other team. That’s pretty standard in Scotland. Whether you like it or not. The English media drive me insane especially current affairs broadcasters. They all say ‘we are through’. So annoying

🤣 I like most of the England players. They’re not the problem.

if you enjoy sport for sports sake it’s perfectly possible to support teams.

pissing in someone else’s yard doesn’t make yours any greener etc.

Which for a country with a Dutch and German royal family is not problem at all.

Can you imagine how nuts that by election would be?

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2026 13:15

Oh, now Badenoch has given her approval, the knives might be out for Farage on MN

An election in Clacton has to be triggered by 10% of the electorate in the constituency. Perhaps they're all very happy with Farage.

Should an by-election happen, it would be delicious irony if the Tories lost.

SerendipityJane · 06/07/2026 14:04

Notonthestairs · 06/07/2026 13:11

😁

I feel a little sorry for the US team. No matter what happens, there will be a shadow over the match. And 47 other countries fans absolutely hating you.

However I feel a bit more sorry for the Belgian team. They are in a position where they cannot say anything and are forced to act as if they accept this outrage. Let's hope the 46 other countries fans give them the lift for a win.

Notonthestairs · 06/07/2026 14:31

I don’t think the US team should be tarnished by what politicians have done in their name. Unless Balogun asked for their involvement. Given Trumps action regarding birthright citizenship I doubt he’s a big fan.

this reflects on the politicians and FIFA.
