A year to change my life, anyone want to join me?

I’m 3 years away from 50 and have had a mental list of things I’ve wanted to change for so long but never really got round to doing anything about them. I’ve read/watched so much self-help stuff but never seem to actually put any of it into practice. I’ve had enough of just bumbling along and doing not much so going to spend the next year putting in as much effort as I can to make things happen.
I’m posting here for accountability but also happy for anyone who wants to join me. I plan to update weekly, if anyone is interested. Below is my list of where I’d like to be in a year:

  • Regular strength training, really noticed myself getting weaker as I get older
  • Joining a running club and having completed a half marathon
  • Fit in a pair of Levi’s that I bought over a decade ago
  • Decluttering my house and making it feel more like home. It’s not in a terrible state but we’ve lived here nearly 5 years and done some work but it really needs some extra love and care.
  • Start building more of a social circle. I WFH and haven’t put much effort into getting to know too many people where I live and have really felt that in the last few years.
  • Find a way of making a second income
  • I have 2 DDs and I’d like to find a hobby I can do with each of them
  • Improve my relationship with DH, we’re still happy but life has got in the way the last few years and I miss the connection we used to have
  • Stop wasting time on rubbish, mostly doom scrolling
  • Get refocused at work and get better at my job
  • Change my style, it would currently be described as middle aged frump!
  • Deep down I’ve never really liked myself and the way I look. I want to at least not hate what I see in the mirror and accept myself for who I am

That’s the list, I’ve started by joining a gym I just need to make myself go. Not sure what’s next but will see what I can improve on each week.

Morning all, here for my weekly check in.
Managed the gym 3 times this week and ran twice. Really happy with that and starting to feel so much better and have more energy.
Have been thinking about my job and also put my thoughts into ChatGPT (I know!), it’s actually quite useful sometimes. Realistically I’m there for the next couple of years unless something major happens. My plan is to try and turn it into a bit of a game, give myself some targets to achieve by a certain time, will plan this out when I’m actually working but I think it’s the only thing that will get me motivated.
Been a busy week and weekend so not started anything else yet but will probably have a bit of a review of it all later.
How is everyone else getting on?

I've achieved a couple of things this weekend I haven't really focused on yet
Did week4 run2 of couch 2 5km which killed me as I haven't jogged for weeks so was very out of practice. But I did it!
I also combined a few goals by having a game of padel this morning - spending time with my partner, exercise and trying something new. I really enjoyed it and it was fun doing something with my partner other than eating/drinking
I feel happier atm, not sure if it's because of all the little goals I'm achieving or something else.
Focus this week is

  • piano (I've let practice slide)
  • couch2 5k
  • drink more water
  • focus on work

Have been lurking but now joining! Well done on week 4 run 2 @12things , I just finished week 4 run 3 and am a little nervous about the step up next week!

My goals are
To become a regular runner with the help of C25K. I’ve been here many times before but always fall off the wagon. I’ve just turned 50, so cannot afford sedentary anymore!!

To start regular yoga and/or strength training to complement running.

Finish my professional training which I’ve been sitting on for a few months. Will be helpful for my work.

Concentrate on progressing at work.

Be patient and present for 11yo only child who is starting secondary.

Save £200 per month. Harder than it seems. Debt is now being managed so this will go up to £500 next year.

Forgot to say. I want 2 stone off by Christmas and another by this time next year.

Hi and welcome onboard @mellongoose
Love your list. Wish I could run but that ship has unfortunately sailed.
My weight loss is stalling. Think it's my age ( I always blame this - in reality it's the wine and cheese).
Lost 2lb last month, hoping for a pound this month !
Do you follow any regime ?
The saving is going well for me. I actually thought that would be problematic, but once I've set myself a budget, I've found it OK.
💪

Welcome @mellongoose

I managed week 4 run 3 on Tuesday which was also a killer!
But annoyingly I've now got a cold 😔
This is going to throw me off annoyingly
Last thing I want to do is work or jog!

Welcome @mellongoose
Lovely to have someone else join us. Small steps are the key.

Im really struggling to sleep in this heat so going a bit easy on myself this week as I’m knackered. I’ve done the gym 3 times this week and was going to go this morning but might go for a walk instead. Got my first park run tomorrow with DD1 so really looking forward to that.

You’re doing really well. Running with a cold feels horrible, if it was me I’d rest and get better. Just promise yourself you’ll start again in a few days. Hope you feel better soon.

@OneYearLater I'm struggling to sleep too. Have struggled since the heatwave(s). It's getting cooler now thank god.
I was feeling really miserable last week ( not like me at all) - then realised I was sleep deprived.
I usually hate winter but I've never looked forward to it more. Winter will help with a couple of my targets too.

Thanks all. My goals seem very far away at the moment as I was on holiday last week and have family staying this week. Food, food and more food!!!

I did finish wk4 run3 on holiday and started wk 5 this week so not a complete loss.

Money is tight because of school holidays. I think I will be able to do more in September.

Sorry about your cold @12things. I hope you feel better soon.

Food is definitely the issue for me. I n ed to be ok with one meal per day (and maybe a healthy snack) but it’s impossible atm!
