Henry Nowak

Heard of him? Probably not, because there seems to be an almost complete news blackout about him. Basically the police handcuffed him and let him bleed out because they thought he may have said something racist - he didn't, it was a lie told by his murderer. Henry was 18.

Sorry for the long copy paste of text but omg the guardian they really can't help themselves can they.

"And, third, rightwingers have claimed that the police response to the incident shows that the police are biased against white people and that a system of “two-tier” justice is in force. Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, and others in his party have been making this argument aggressively for some days, and this morning Farage delivered a TV statement about it. (In normal circumstances Farage would hold a press conference, but in recent weeks Farage has become very relectant to take questions from journalists, presumably because he does not like being asked about the £5m he got from Christopher Harborne which he failed to declare, and where he got the money for his £1.4m house.)"

Please note that the judge extended Digwas sentence for carrying that knife. He did not consider it an extenuating circumstance, religion or not.

I live in SE London. Hardly a leafy suburb.
The violence here is not perpetuated by the Sikhs or any " religious" people, whatever those are.

My response concerns some people being allowed to carry offensive weapons for religious reasons, which is entirely relevant.

You claimed issues are bigger in non- leafy suburbs. What issues?

Never before has a kirpan been used by a Sikh. The Sikhs are not a community that has failed to integrate. They fought for Britain in two wars. Their gurudwaras help the homeless. As the prosecutor and Nowak's family remarked.

Wishing14 · Today 14:21

I don’t think it’s about Sikhs per se. It’s about equality and treating everyone the same. The law should be the same for everyone

FireHorse2026 · Today 14:22

So what if a kirpan has never been used before? It has been now. If he wasn't allowed to legally carry it maybe he wouldn't have been carrying a knife and Henry would be alive today. Or perhaps he would still have routinely carried a knife and come to the attention of police.

Has anyone ever died from being pepper sprayed by a woman? Why aren't we allowed to carry that if Sikhs are allowed potentially lethal weapons?

I didn't say that, read my post again I said that this unequal policing has been allowed because too many people live comfortably so the few who aren't risk don't get considered. It's easy to brush it off as 'ok it's ok if it's someone's religion' if it doesn't affect you or your community directly. Same with women's rights, domestic violence, tax avoiding businesses, all brushed under the carpet to avoid offence.

Southampton, UK (December 2025/May 2026 Trial): Vickrum Singh Digwa (23) was convicted of murdering an 18-year-old university student, Henry Nowak, in Southampton. Digwa stabbed the victim multiple times with an 8-inch shastar (a traditional blade). He then falsely claimed to police that he had acted in self-defense and was a victim of a racist attack, which resulted in police mistakenly handcuffing the dying student. Digwa was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years. I think you’re focusing on Sikhs rather than Henry but it makes sense to review who can carry a weapon.

Now it has been used in this way.

Because people have commented on this and other threads about Sikhs. How terribly dangerous and religious they are. The other thread is worse, actually.

I think I have commented about Henry, if you look.

On a population level not everyone is dangerously but we still don’t allow carrying of weapons. The same should be applied.

Rarely then? Will that do? Googling obsessively is your thing, not mine..
All the knife crime and shoplifting in my area is by black and white gangs. Not prompted by religion.
I am absolutely going to fight back against people framing this as a religious issue. It's knife crime.

Ipsevenenabibas · Today 14:41

Yeah rarely is better Jane, thanks.

Cor, for a none religious person you are quite the soldier for religious rights!

Personally, I am religious but I don't believe any religion should be above the law. So I have no problem with Sikhs, but for equality purposes I think it's wrong they are allowed to carry weapons. Anyhow! Nice chatting with you.

JaneFondue · Today 14:48

On another issue, do people think that parents should be held responsible for childrens crimes? Not in all cases.
But in this case and the Southport case, parents clearly ignored violent behaviour and stockpiling of weapons. Will that curb knife crime?

It happened in December yet we are only hearing about it now. After watching the body cam footage no one can dispute that two tier policing is a real thing and an 18 year old lost his life because of it.

He didn't lose his life because of it. He had 1200ml of blood in his chest cavity and the pathologist was clear that no emergency treatment at the scene would have allowed access to the vein that had been pierced. He would have bled out before he got to hospital, regardless of whether an ambulance had been called immediately.

However, it's tragic that he spent his last moments being arrested.

He wasn't bleeding wildly. He had some blood on his face, consistent with the perpetrator's lie that he'd fallen from the bin. The fatal injury bled internally into his lung cavity.

The response was ‘don’t think you have mate’.

I can’t breathe 9 times and I’ve been stabbed four times, until he died.

”Some blood on his face” was a slash mark from the blade. They didn’t assess the situation at all.
