What’s the strangest reason someone has got cross with you on MN?

When I was new to MN I used a way of phrasing something that is very common in my local dialect. To the point that I still can’t figure out what was wrong with how I phrased it. However rather than answering my thread there was just a pile on about my typing.

Another time someone became very angry that I said I worked at a school with a farm. I did at the time. But they were so angry that I might have “outed” my self. I’ve never put anything on here that I would be embarrassed people in my life finding out so I don’t know why they were so worried for me!

Only when people are ignorant/judgemental about it.

I was once on a thread about grammar schools. I mentioned that in one of the grammar school areas it's roughly the top 20% of pupils that get places whereas where I am it's roughly the top 5% because there aren't many grammar schools. This clearly touched a nerve with one poster who then wrote a massive tirade about how dare I mislead MN as it's actually the top 18% in that area and I shouldn't be implying that the grammar kids in my area are brighter than in hers. My DC don't go to grammar school but I guessed hers did 🤣

The thread title was something like "If you are about 5 ft 6 and a size 16, how much do you weigh?". Iirc the poster was losing weight and trying to figure out her next goal. So lots of posters helpfully replied.

Cue someone randomly coming on and saying "I'm 5 ft 2 and weigh 8 stone and I'm a size 8". So I just asked why she'd put that on OPs thread. She said "I thought it was helpful for context". I said I couldn't see any relevance whatsoever. And it kicked off from there 😂.

Yes I remember that....it wasn't long ago was it? FWIW I didn't think for one minute it was made up....sorry you went through that 💐

I got piled on for posting a picture of a package delivered (tossed) in the side alley of my house (thread was about poor deliveries) and was told that they had advance searched my history and that no way this picture was from America. No indeed, no American home has an entrance like that. They all knew best. It was the most bizarre thing - why would I post a picture of someone else’s shoddy delivery? This is a strange place sometimes.

No it was me responsible for the spreading Covid to all and sundry as I took my dog out numerous times a day to pee on the field 20 steps away from my front door as she won’t go to the toilet in my garden.

Real life not Mumsnet... it was me, sorry. I took my 6&8yos to the supermarket with me instead of leaving them home alone for 2 hours.

I’ve just had another look you can hide the thread that must’ve been what I did. It was ages ago now I just remember doing something to get away from it.

I started a AMA about how I’d started a business from nothing (being in loads of debt actually) that had gone on to make millions in revenue and I got absolutely slaughtered for hours. No matter what I said I was lying.

I think people like this are miserable and angry at everything and lurk on MN waiting to find someone/anyone to take their anger and misery out on to make them feel better about themselves - but they're too selfish to even consider how they make others feel.

It was crazy, for sure! This was the small hours of the morning and the poster was becoming abusive and irrational, so I just bailed… put me off the site for a good while too!

There are some MRA types on this site who make a beeline for threads about these issues, including VAWG. I was once hounded from thread to thread by a poster I strongly suspected was one of these. Unfortunately, there is also a sizeable number of women who support them.

Women who use this site need to be aware. (They will never stop me from speaking).

Someone once took severe umbrage with me about a large tree in their neighbour's garden. She'd just moved in and was demanding that the neighbour removed it because it was causing shade in her garden. Apparently the tree hadn't been in leaf when they viewed the property. The tree was an ancient oak hundreds of years old (with a TPO on it), and the modern housing estate had been built around it. She was livid when I said she should have thought about that before she moved in, and that the tree had far more right to live there than she did to insist it was cut down.

I posted about a problem with my DS & his DD, & whether I should take a certain course of action - name changed & I'm glad I did.
I received some very helpful replies, roughly 80/20 % against, & including the reasoning.
One poster then laid into me at great length, she could not help because I did not include more detail - his name & address perhaps?

Another joined in saying it's not really about X, it's about Y, isn't it ? WTF !
I drafted replies, but decided against posting them.
They both carried on , feeding off each other, I ignored & didn't go back to my post.
